I’ve never had phở the way they made it here. The soup did not have much flavor, it was only served with a small plate of bean sprouts and 4 lemon wedges for the 4 of us. It was overall a very bland soup. The service was pretty bad. We waited over 30 min just to get a menu. And the kept trying to flag someone to take our order for a while after. We would have left except we had our two small children who were very hungry and cold after a long hike, so they needed some soup to warm up. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for authentic phở. We won’t be coming back.

I really like this place for lunch. It is a big restaurant, so there is plenty of space for groups big or small. The staff is nice even on a busy day, so that is always a plus. Their menu is pretty big with all the Viet usual’s: several types of phở(very good), vermicelli noodles, rice and stir fry dishes. I have had something from each part of the menu and everything was ranging from good to delicious. My two favorites are the beef phở and the chicken vermicelli.

Hansen Newmarket is one of my favourite places to grab a quick, cheap weekday dinner and Hansen in mt Wellington is carrying on the same traditions. Larger, same great staff and exactly the same food! I can’t go past the C13 rice noodles with lemongrass chicken, this comes with a genius serving of fresh and pickled Vegas. So tasty. And I love the hot coffee made with a splash of condensed milk(OMG) the best way to drink coffee…

Maybe not quite as good as the Newmarket branch but a good cheap and cheerful dinner. Food is fresh tasty and service is quick. Dinner for 4 adults including 3 appetisers was $ 71 so quite a good deal. Bowls of soup are LARGE. We will certainly be back.

I had seafood&meat rice noodle for lunch. It suppose to be authentic, but it was very ordinary. Nothing special. Only one prawn, two squid, maybe three small fish cake and two pieces of meat. Not very generous. The soup was bit tasteless, so had to put lots of chilli sauce. They give small portion of sprouts, so had to ask for more. Overall, it was just simple nothing special lunch. If you want something quick and not too expensive, then try it.

It seemed that a visit to Hansan in Panmure, one of a chain of four Vietnamese restaurants sprinkled around the city, would be a good way to rekindle memories. A fresh clean more modern version of the old restaurant which was next door, with a nice water feature greeting you when you come in. I began with Vietnamese-style crispy spring rolls in crunchy lettuce leaves with a light tangy chili dressing. For mains we had bowls, my friend had a soup with chicken and noodles and I had a salad with crispy pork and noodles topped with nuts and a sweet chili sauce. Great generous portions at a cheap price — $ 17 for 2 courses. Quick service and I love the menu that has a picture next to every description just as it always did. Its a great place to nip to for a quick reasonably healthy eat out meal I’d go to regularly.

A friend of mine, of Vietnamese background, introduced us to Hansan, so it’s got to be good! This is the best place to go to locally when you want a quick and inexpensive family dinner. Lemongrass chicken is our favourite, but their curry and black pepper beef are really good too.

I’ve been here a few times now and every time had the lemongrass chicken with vermicelli, which is pretty much the only thing I ever order at Vietnamese restaurants. It’s one of my all-time favorite dishes. Hansan’s is one of the best versions I’ve had. And, the prices are reasonable. My partner, who is normal and orders different dishes each time, has been very pleased with everything he’s ordered.(We don’t eat pork or beef, so I can’t speak for those dishes.) The service is good. The servers are pleasant and make ordering easy — you don’t have to wait forever for them to come over to take your order and you can just point to stuff on the menu to order if you’re too lazy to try to verbalize your order. Yes, sometimes I am that lazy.

We have been going to HanSan for years and years. I think is has been franchised now but it was started by two brothers, Han and San and their parents who were all originally refugees from Asia. Lovely people and an example of what you can achieve, starting with nothing, by sheer hard work. No benefits and government handouts for this family — hard work and dogged determination has made them a success. It used to be a couple of doors down from where it is now but with all the road/rail carnage going on in Panmure it moved to its current location, which is infinitely better and more modern. Parking is right outside in a parking lot which is a bit of a squeeze — just don’t take your Ferrari if you are worried about dings in the door. This is a great place for a big casual get-together of family or friends and absolutely fine for kids — they have high chairs for babies too. It is not hip or trendy(it’s Panmure after all). And if you are child-phobic you are best to go later at night, obviously, although I am extremely allergic to screaming kids in restaurants and have never had a problem at HanSan. It can get crazily busy here on occasion. People come in for takeouts and more people queue for tables and the place must turnover a few hundred covers on a busy night. The service is, for the most part, very efficient. They take the orders on a handheld computer. We have on many an occasion had our mains arrive before the entrees, but this is really no biggie — it’s not fine dining — I only mention it to give a sense of how manic it can get. There is an extensive menu with entrees of spring and summer rolls, wontons and skewered chicken among other offerings. I recommend the deep fried spring rolls with the lettuce to wrap them in and the dipping sauce. These are flippin’ hot when they arrive so you need the lettuce to hold them and they are delish. Mains include lots of stir fries, noodle and rice dishes, curries, heaps to choose from and inexpensive. They always bring green tea out when you are seated — and if they don’t, just remind them — as mentioned they can get frantically busy — think headless chickens(waiters not food!). I think they are fully licensed but don’t quote me. Pretty sure they are BYO anyway. All in all a good, solid eating house with consistently good Vietnamese food. I don’t know if it’s authentic but it’s damn good! Interestingly, every Vietnamese restaurant we’ve ever been to has a different slant on this type of food and I’ve never had exactly the same flavour and presentation. HanSan has franchises in a a few other locations around Auckland and even they differ slightly. Go.

This place is beautiful and hi-tech! Food ordered with an iPad, no making mistakes. Like all Hansan, the food is consistent, and delicious. Newly refurbished!
