Ignoring the inevitable congestion from the poor placement of the bar, I quite like the Maidment Theatre. It’s a decent size but still manages to feel intimate, the seats are comfy and viewing is good pretty much no matter where you are seated. The theatre plays host to a myriad of plays. I remember we used to go once a month for theatre club at school and it was always a highlight, we saw everything from The Talented Mr Ripley to Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Easily my biggest gripe is the parking situation. There’s just none close by and if you want to park in a parking building get ready to walk up some hills and allow at least 15mins to get there, otherwise big thumbs up from me!

Was lucky enough to win some tickets to a production on at the Maidment Theatre, and had not had the chance previously to go, so was super pleased on my recent visit. I arrived to pick up tickets in the recption foyer which was spacious enough to have at least a full theatre milling about. The reception is to the right as you enter and a bar set up selling drinks and snacks pre show opposite on your left. I liked that the high ceiling gave the room a volume, and athough not as large as some theatre entrances still felt grand. As part of the Auckland University, the staff working at the theatre are mainly students themselves, and very friendly and helpful too. The bathrooms on site are easy to access, and I liked that the seating near to the restrooms allowed for some chill out time whilst waiting for the start of the show. Seating in the theatre was standard not your luxurious type of seat, but I was comfortable enough. The show was excellent, with a break half way through, I was able to refresh myself with some delicious Tohu Ice cream which they sell in dark chocolate, heaven. A very successful first visit to Maidment Theatre, a ticket would set you back around fifty dollars for each adult– so definetly a splurge compared to a movie date, but so worth it for the experience.
