Merlin’s Recycled Clothing

I was a huge fan of Merlin’s when it was based in New Lynn, and I was very sad and suddenly unfashionable when it closed. Finding out it had simply shifted was a huge relief.
Merlin’s has a pretty decent range — not just in styles or types or clothes, but in sizes. And for me this is critical, because West Auckland op shops traditionally do not cater to guys who are on the skinny side. But I’ve manages to get plenty of shirts from here, and even jeans — and that’s a rarity.
The prices are fine for secondhand clothes. Not the cheapest you’ll find like at a small town church shop, but cheaper than a K’Rd ‘fashion’ place. And because of the range it’s worth taking the time to browse; there’s bound to be something you can get a good deal on.

This place has a huge selection, more than I remembered the first time I went. They stock lots of guys stuff! — This is great as men’s clothing is not always easy to find second hand. The prices are reasonable but not super cheap. I discovered a large range of curtains and bed linen in the far corner; some of which comes packaged and appears to be brand new, approximate costs were between $ 5 — $ 25. Staff were reasonably friendly and helpful. The bright red sign high on the roof will help you find the place from the street if you are looking for it. Less than five minutes walk from the train station. Otherwise they have parking on site but not many are available.

For an op shop out west Merlin’s is pretty pricey, mostly because they have a standard price for each type of clothing (all the pants are one price, all the tops, etc). BUT you always always always find awesome stuff here. Probably my favourite op shop in Glen Eden, they have heaps of items. They always have really good coats too, which is great considering how expensive a really good, warm coat is. They’ve got furniture too which I love; nothing better than trying to find a good steal on some second-​hand furniture. But, alas, the staff are not exactly friendly, or helpful, or welcoming. So as long you’re not looking for a sweet convo with some op shop staff, and you just want to find cool clothes, Merlin’s is the place to go.
