second time at mix moon, still no improvements food just average noise level very loud. expensive for what you got. I had beef rendang with Roti beef tender but rendang extremely mild and didn’t ask how you wanted it. I realise rendang tends to be on the sweeter side of curries but no kick or flavour at all.

Mix Moon was lovey, great for a large group, nice deco and artfully presented food. I just wasn’t a raving fan of my Prawn Sambal, I think it had taken the Asian Fusion too far and would of been much better sticking with the traditional sambal sauce(this is assuming that Samal is the same rich, heavy, herby salty sauce I remember) the flavor was too sweet and tomatoey for my liking, but other peoples dishes looked amazing. I might just have to go back and order something else. The Mango Coconut rice was lovely, not too heavy and munched down in record time.

Enjoyed our time here. Love the range of food they have,. Only donfall was that it was so busy that it was so loud we couldnt really talk without yelling! Would definitely come back maybe on a week night when its not so busy.

Lovely setting and staff were very attentive. There was a wait for a table(Thursday evening) but it wasn’t a long wait. I will be calling ahead next time :) The food was ok, generous serves. I had prawns and my friend had a curry. In hindsight I should have gone with a curry too.

This is an old favourite. Never fails to deliver great quality. Brilliant Sambal chicken with the right amount of spice! Staff here are friendly and it is quite a popular restaurant. I have been going here since when they used to offer 20% off on takeaways! Those were the days. Eat here and you won’t be dissatisfied.

Nice décor and the food is certainly tasty. Started with Curry Puff which were just ok and then had a Chicken Laksa and the Beef Rending with Roti. Both main courses were generous and really tasty. The beef was melt in the mouth tender and the roti were crisp and light. The Laksa was perhaps more subtle than the usual fair but tasted great. Prices are a little higher than I would expect but I will be back to try more of the very large menu.

I eat here about twice a month and have done for over a year now. It is simply excellent. The food is absolutely delicious. I usually order the winter rolls, followed by the bun gar. I’ve eaten here on my own, or in a couple, or large group of friends or family. It is always outstanding. The music is nice too. Always busy, that’s because it’s so great. Takeaways good too. So recommended!

Great local new Lynn restaurant. Probably the best in new Lynn. Asian fusion at its best. Great for large group but make sure you book ahead. The place get filled up quick. Everything on their menu taste great. I have yet to try a dish that I don’t like there. So is pretty safe to try anything there.

Have been to Mix Moon 5 or 6 times now and it’s a great local restaurant. Prices are reasonable, it’s BYOW, plenty of menu options, and a nice relaxed atmosphere(although our table was super dark, I needed by phone’s light to read the menu!!). However, the service is the letdown. The waitresses aren’t particularly attentive, for example we normally have to call them over to take our order, or to get more water. You get the feeling they don’t really like their job, which doesn’t make for a great experience. But at the end of the day I always leave having enjoyed the food. It’s more fusion than authentic — but that’s not a bad thing. Ingredients seem fresh, and serving sizes are good. At my last visit I particularly enjoyed the cashew nut with prawns, and the beef rendang with rice and roti. Skip the desserts though, they taste of heated up bought cakes. All things considered, if go in expecting mediocre service and don’t order dessert, then you’re in for a pretty good dinner at Mix Moon.

Mix Moon is the kind of restaurant which emphasizes the decoration and the ambiance and just forgets to focus on what is in the plate. It’s a nice place to have dinner with its refined decoration, its attentive staff, but the value for money is way too expensive. We ordered the fresh winter rolls and for 10 $ they could put two more rolls since the one in the plates are very small. Taste was OK but nothing special. My malaysian friend was very disappointed by the Beef Rendang and my Pad Thai was too dry because too little sauce was added. We ended up with a 89 $ bill with two glasses of wine.

My dad and I went to Mix Moon the week it opened for dinner and were really impressed by the wide range and style of meals that they offer. As implied by the name, Mix Moon’s menu includes traditional and contemporary meals from across a variety of countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and other such South East Asian nations. This fusion of Asian meals makes for a very mouthwatering menu! Although our initial experience at Mix Moon could have been better — many of the meals and cocktails on the menu were unavailable as they didn’t have the ingredients, Mix Moon has since smoothed out these issues and is now a brilliant place to meet for family dinners or dinners with groups of friends. Everyone, regardless of how fussy an eater they may be, will find at least one dish(more likely about ten!) that will satisfy them. And the best part is it won’t break the bank either! All dishes at Mix Moon are very reasonably priced, with the average main course only setting you back about twenty dollars. And the portions are big. Yussssss. Tip: The Bun Ga is to die for. If you like lemongrass and vermicelli noodles, this is the meal for you!

We took the family for a special occasion dinner at this relatively new South East Asian cuisine restaurant and everyone just loved the meal. A few of us chose Phad Thai rice noodles, very tasty and quite big portions. Mr chose the Crying Tiger marinated Thai style sirloin steak which was indeed grilled to perfection. My favourite was the Thai stir fry Cashewnut, and for the eldest son it was a Green Curry. The interiors are modern, I think they have tried to bring a bit of Ponsonby chic into New Lynn. We thought it all worked and are recommending Mix Moon.

Ok, so I have given this an overall three stars due to the food; the restaurants décor and service would be closer to a five star rating… and I promise to go back for a second time to try the food again and if it is a bit better then I will upgrade the stars! My husband and I have both tried the nasi goreng, one with chicken and one with beef. Now it comes with curry is that ok? Yeah, fine, we both figured, soon to discover upon first bite that this curry was ‘curry powder’ style, not a paste, no green curry nor red curry, dry curry curry… hmmm…hard to describe… maybe I should talk about the service… super patient with indecisive me, gave us glasses of water whilst we waited(we were getting takeaway — 20% off the menu price folks!), and overall very nice. Love the décor! Very nice art matching the lighting that is spread throughout. Cool music at a decent level. Spacious amount of seating indoors if you had a large group or if it is just a few of you then you have an option to sit outdoors — although you would have to get in quick. Parking was easy on Totara Avenue, which made for a quick takeaway getaway, even for a Friday night. Mix Moon only opened in New Lynn in 2012 and it seems to be establishing quite a good reputation for itself, worth checking out.

I’ll admit that I was super sceptical about this place, purely because they offer dishes from all over the South-East Asian area; my previous experience with restaurants like this is that one or two dishes are great but most are bland. Well, happily Mix Moon is opposite the bland: every dish was sensational. I had a Thai starter, a Malaysian main, and a desert of various origins, and each one was distinctive, good, and flavoursome. I suspect almost everything is made from scratch without the commercial pastes that tend to make other dishes taste very similar. They also have a comprehensive vegetarian menu, hooray — it’s really great being able to go to a place and not feel like you are a second class citizen just because you don’t want meat. Other pluses: it’s well kitted out with some thought having gone into the surrounds, the service was very attentive without being intrusive, AND they have cocktails. In short: you should go there.
