What does one imagine when they see a site that use to have a KFC? Asian Bubble tea of course… ?_? Well… The décor doesn’t feel like KFC but if you squint you can see its past incarnation. The inside is fun and still has big slide in booth seating all around with a touch of Asian Pop Come here for the drinks the big tall glasses of milky pearl tea, in what feels like a thousand flavors… and half a different styles. The rest of the dishes are good but not the best among the endless Asian offerings here in Meadowlands. It would also be at the pricier end for the neighborhood which isn’t saying much as you will walk out with change from a $ 40 for dinner including drinks for two. This is open till the wee hours of the mornings every morning(and its when you will find your best people watching fodder)

Momotea is one of those places you go to and try something new and different. I had never been to Momotea until a friend of mine confessed her love for it. We decided to go there as a group of girls to giggle about stuff. We got there and it was like I walked into a story book or a scene of some animé movie. It was colourful, with cute monkey displays and bet yet a Karaōke type thing playing from the TV. I had finally found a place I could sing-a-long to Westlife and not be judged. After the whole album played I was almost in tears! After that visit I regularly go and watch the Asian game shows which are always a hoot and I also get the taro milkshake with the pearls. To be honest I am only there for the pearls, I don’t know what they are made of and I don’t care. The creaminess of the taro milkshake warms my heart.

A colourful feast for the eyes and a crazy asian jingle protruding from the TV announce you’ve just walked into Momotea. Usually very busy(and for good reason!) it’s best to either head in before or after the meal time rush. It’s a great place to meet friends and natter for hours, as they close much later than most restaurants out East. I like to pick new drinks off the menu each time, but I absolutely love the Lavender and Rose Milk Teas! I also highly recommend trying the traditional Bubble Teas if you haven’t yet. My only let down is the food can be quite oily, so watch out if you wanted something healthy! Also, the drinks are pricey, but they do give you HUGE servings, so it’s probably about right. An enjoyable treat and something different from your normal coffee shop or pub binge.

There are times when I’ve found myself craving some good old Chinese food and Momo Tea is my port of call in this instance. The menu is massive and about half of it are their beverages– which they do very well! Not one to stray from my usual menu choices, I’m a fan favourite of their chocolate milkshake, but their taro milkshake is just as tasty. Their barbecue section is simply best, especially if you’re after octopus, spicy chicken hearts(my favourite on their menu!) or anything that may make the average diner do a double take. They’ve also got a small section of Thai food, which I’ve yet to try– so there’d definitely cariety. The layout here is diner-esque with colourful booths, TVs mounted on the walls playing Westlife concerts– which I’d never complain about– are quick, attentive service. Momotea is a cost-effective lunch and dinner spot and is even open til the wee hours of the morning– which would make it the perfect post-town feed stop.
