History

Established in 1992.

Bought as a lifestyle business by two young accountants, Nick & Robyn Jones, the property swiftly turned from a gorgeous private house of mudbrick, with vines surrounding it; to a bustling, sought-after restaurant and boutique wine producer, open to the public year round.

Styled in the classic French Country taste, the property is located in one of the most picturesque settings nationwide, making it sought after by locals and overseas guests alike.

Our concierge made the reservation. We arrived a bit early and were supposed to be seated indoors but asked to sit outside and were given a wonderful table overlooking the water.
I had the gazpacho to start with recommended wine pairing and Nick had the steak tartar. I have never had such a wonderful version of gazpacho in my life. So beautiful smooth with varied flavored and small textures (olive bits?). The pavlova for desert was also exceptional.
The grounds are beautiful the food and wine amazing as well as gracious and attentive service.
Perfect way the spend a sunny afternoon on Waiheke Island.

Excellent degustation menu with wine pairing, but terrible service. I went solo to scout it for a wedding reception I’m planning. I was having an excellent meal until my server stepped out to run an errand. The meals stopped coming after the main course, so after about 30 minutes I asked for the manager. She was profusely apologetic and made sure I was served the rest of the courses. They had a wedding reception scheduled sometime that afternoon and they rushed me to finish my dessert! The original server finally appeared, and when he brought the check, it included things I hadn’t even ordered. I’m thoroughly disappointed and cannot recommend it.

We went to Mudbrick for lunch and we were not disappointed! We had the lamb and beef dishes and they were cooked beautifully. We shared a beautiful bottle of Tempranillo wine that was soo good. The servers knew their food. That was obvious from how they explained the food when it arrived. The view was spectacular, whether u sit inside or out. The waiter could have refilled our wine glasses throughout lunch, he never did that once… I think it’s important to do that when u r sharing so no feels guilty for having more :)
Otherwise, I’d go back here in a heart beat.

I truly wish this place was closer to home because it now my favorite vineyard and restaurant. It’s a bit of a long plane trip from the USA, but I think this place might just be worth it.
Mud brick is strategically located at the top of the mountain (okay maybe it’s just a large hill) with terrific views of the island, water and Auckland skyline in the distance. We were fortunate to be there on day with clear blue skies.
The restaurant is beautifully situated with french door windows that are open for a lovely ambiance. Design is classy chic and yet also casual. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was amazing and of course the wine was equally delightful. They do great pairings with the menu.
The grounds are well maintained sculpted gardens with several benches you can just sit and enjoy the views. If you are in a hurry, I noticed a heli-pad located above us and one family of four dropped in for lunch — just an option. :-)
Check out the gift shop — the wine is reasonable priced, but shipping is very expensive, so I recommend you just enjoy it while you are in the moment.

Mudbrick hosted my boyfriend and I for lunch to celebrate his birthday. The setting and view of Mudrbick was absolutley breathtaking and so was the food! In fact the food was so pretty I almost didn’t want to eat it! But I did of course and it was delicious! We had everything from elegant salmon to truffle mushroom raviolis. A+ on deliciousness and presentation! The wine was also fabulous and our server was very friendly and very helpful. I will always remember the lovely afternoon we spent at Mudbrick together for a wonderful birthday celebration.

We popped into Mudbrick, while we were cycling around the Waiheke Vineyards one weekend. The gardens surrounding the main buildings are amazing, and it is so relaxing to sit outside and just relax in the sunshine.
The staff here are so friendly and the service is amazing. So much better than you usually receive when you go out somewhere in Auckland!
We ordered some wine (of course), and the petits fours, which is a selection of tiny desserts. The presentation was amazing and there was just the perfect amount to share between two.
The atmosphere is very relaxed, and we would love to come back to try some of the food items. Unfortunately we had just eaten down the road in Cable Bay, but that can be discussed in another review!

Great location with fantastic views. Try the walk from the ferry terminal past the Atawhai Whenua reserve. Access to walking track is at the far end of the car park. Approx 15 minutes.

At the top of a hill with amazing views of the water, finely manicured garden entrance, rustic décor and that amazing chandelier, Mudbrick is an amazing place for wine tasting and dinner on Waiheke island.
We had the afternoon off from work and decided to visit Waiheke island despite the fact that it was a cold raining day. The ferry only took 35 minutes or so and were cabs waiting. We made our way to Mudbrick and immediately stunned by its beauty. The garden at the entrance is superb and leads you to the restaurant and a seperate building for the wine tasting.
Our sommelier for tasting was incredibly knowledable and had a great way of explaining the craft of wine making. After tasting we headed into the restaurant for dinner. Because we were early, the kitchen was not ready so we sat by a fire and enjoyed a cheese plate and champaign. Dinner was exceptional as well.

This has to be heaven on earth my wife and I can’t keep away.
It has to have the most beautiful view in the South Pacific, the menu shows off the best that New Zealand has to offer in the way of food and wines.
The service has to be by far some of the best we have anywhere in New Zealand and the staff are always happy to accommodate to your needs, we have had a few large and a bit rough around the edges long afternoons here and never once been looked at sideways.
We think that it’s well worth the boat trip over to the island and recommend that if you can overnight on the island to do so as you can truly see what little old NZ has to offer.

We were in Auckland and wanted to go to a winery, but we only had the evening available to go. We chose this place b/c they were open late (7pm on a Sunday). The ferry over is kind of expensive (~$ 60), but if you pick up on of the Auckland visitor brochures in the airport, there is a 10% coupon for the ferry (though we didn’t notice this until after we went). The wait staff was very nice. We had wine and a cheese plate which was nicely done.

The wine was amazing and the views cannot be beat! The food in the garden menu is a little too pricey for my flavor, but my husband and I had a premium wine tasting and beer and then walked back to the ferry. It was a great combo to pair a nice beautiful hike with a little wine tasting :)

We went for a 6 course NYE dinner and it was one of the best meals of our lives (and we eat A LOT). We were greeted with some bubbly, then strolled around the beautiful premises enjoying the island view with Auckland in the background. The food was a good mix of pure and simple with some molecular gastronomy thrown in, wonderfully prepared and paced. We watched the fireworks from the roof and the staff were festive and accomodating given the late hour. a DEFINITE must do for foodies and anyone who wants an amazing experience.

I am in LOVE with Mudbrick. Picturesque views, lush surrounds, a large deck, beautiful wine and fine food… what more could a girl want?
We came here last weekend for a girls lunch. Originally we had booked for the more formal restaurant but having seen one of the platters go past we decided to take a more laissez faire approach and asked to be relocated to the sunny lounges in the bistro. If the staff were at all annoyed by our request (I wouldn’t of blamed them) they didn’t show it and happily set us up with new water/wine glasses on one of the last remaining outdoor settees.
As for the platters, they were absolutely stunning, arriving on large wooden boards with flower garnishes. The squid and prawns were perfectly cooked, the tataki tender and well seasoned and the marinated vegetables beautifully chargrilled whilst maintaining a bit of crunch. Pair this with their summery Rose and you are in for a treat!
An absolute MUST DO on my list of Auckland activities/eateries and my first port of call when international visitors are in town!

This review may take me a while to write because i am still in fantasy land after my recent trip to Mudbrick. WHAT A PLACE.
I had heard it was amazing but i didn’t expect it to be this fabulous. We did also have the most spectacular weather.
The views from the restaurant and courtyard area are sensational, i would highly recommend sitting outside if possible.
We sat on the couches in the outdoor courtyard area; very relaxing. The restaurant also looked lovely with big open windows.
We chose the 2013 Rose, produced on Waiheke island. This was a lovely choice, beautiful deep pinky/red color. Definitely worth a sip if your there in the summer months.
We shared two massive platters of food, the squid was the highlight for me and also the island grown olives.
The staff at mudbrick are very lovely, welcoming and knowledgeable of the winery and also the island.
I can’t express my love for this gorgeous place enough. I am so excited for my next trip already!

This was my first time at mudbrick and it excerpted expectations. Sitting above beautiful rolling hills and vineyards overlooking the hauraki gulf it is nothing short of stunning! We chose to sit outside in the more informal area where we had sharing platters which were fresh, beautifully presented and yum to say the least. I can’t speak for the restaurant but the food on others tables I saw looked gorgeous as well.
Highly recommend for a day out and it’s easy to get there from central auckland

Mudbrick Vineyard is simply breathtaking. I went here for a friend’s wedding and it truly was a fantastic experience. A beautiful location on Waiheke Island, if you want to visit some quality NZ wineries, then Mudbrick must be included on your list.
The vineyard itself is so picturesque, and the views from the top look out onto the ocean with Auckland City in the distance. Even from the restaurant you can see this awesome view, and when the sun sets in the evening, the sight is truly magical. I felt like I was a guest at a Royal dinner, I can’t imagine how the actual bride and groom felt.
The food was fantastic, but Mudbrick is more famous for its top quality wines. Come to the Vineyard and taste a few for yourself. If you like good wine, then I guarantee you’ll leave with a bottle or two.

If you’re wanting a romantic, rustic atmosphere, Mudbrick is the place to go! It’s absolutely phenomenal! With stunning views back to Auckland city, it’s just that far away to make you feel like you’re on holiday and work back in the city can wait.
We had the most wonderful Mudbrick vineyard platter for two. It’s valued at $ 60 but worth every cent. I don’t feel it would comfortably feed anymore than three adults unless you were ordering other meals.
We also popped open a bottle of their Pinot Gris! Spectacular! With our platter, bottle of wine, fantastic views, incredible surroundings, we certainly felt like we were in heaven! It was so relaxing!
Not only is it a perfect place to come dine, but it is such a romantic setting, picture perfect for a wedding!
A two word sum up is… MUST SEE!!!

I had heard so many amazing things about Mudbrick so I was really excited when my parents shouted us lunch there on a family holiday to Waiheke.
We were all really excited and when we go there we weren’t let down.
The first thing that struck me was their vegetable garden. It’s huge, luscious, and packed with the most amazing produce, a lot of what we were about to eat later on.
We then went up to the main restaurant, which has a 270 view over the Auckland Harbour towards the city. Even though we went there in winter, they had all the doors wide open and the sun warmed us.
Our meals were like nothing I’ve ever had before, like a work of art. They use brushes to decorate the plate with sauces and I savoured every mouthful.
After our meals we went for a walk up to the lookout which gave us a 360 view. A perfect way to end a perfect meal.
Everything about Mudbrick was all I expected and more. I definitely recommend you go.
