Absolutely useless staff! My Nana has been in here for a couple of days and the nurses are totally out of it! After pressing the button for help this morning, we waited ages for someone to come and help — she was violently ill — yet no one was there to give her any help. Not even to run and get a flannel! Meanwhile, we were all rushing round trying to find flannels, water and towels, with still no help from the nurses. Finally a nurse comes, with no apology! As I looked down the hall, they all looked like they were having coffees and sitting around. Absolutely shocking!!!

Now that a family member is receiving regular treatment which includes quarterly visits to this hospital, we have come to know a few of its corridors and wards well. Suffice to say, it is a welcoming place, the staff here are super friendly and I especially love the helpers who meet you at the reception area and deliver you through the warren to your place of appointment. I particularly like the days when I am visiting and the mini market is operating on the ground floor. There is an array of items for sale for reasonable prices like knitting, baking and even small plants. The café is adequate on days that the wait is long we pop in here for refueling. Of course the pharmacy on site is super convenient as prescriptions can be filled as you leave the hospital, unlike the counterpart hospital in Henderson.

I’m lucky to say that all my visits to the North Shore Hospital was to see other people, rather than being the victim of some horrible affliction, infection or condition. I hate hospitals, and I’m sure I’m joined in this feeling, by most people. Fortunately the North Shore Hospital is not that painful to visit, and there is plenty of easy access parking. Expensive, yes, but right in front of the building, so it is worth it. Plus it is a great excuse for both parties to keep visits short. I was very happy with what I saw, from the nurses right up to the doctors… If you ever see one of those rare species, and I must warn that the midwives are hardcore. I know people are always bashing the state hospitals, but it is only because they haven’t seen the alternative, and trust me, these hospitals are great.
