Third time and still epic fail… Just here for coffee as client chose this place, I had been here twice before and sadly the coffee for me is weak and flavourless to be honest I think a starbucks would be a better option cant comment on the food but seriously guys great space get the coffee right

A great coffee experience hidden away in the CBD. I love spots like this where the coffee speaks for itself. The space is small and well lit. You come here for the coffee. Nice to avoid the sea of people camped out with laptops for hours.

Okay this is my second update for Rutland but this one is super spesh because… their barista Danny has just been nominated for the Metro Barista Competiion 2013! That’s pretty flash. And when you vote for him, you go into a prize draw. And you’re allowed to vote once per day… I’m just saying. And here’s where you get your vote on:

Rutland Street Café is a cute little establishment next to the library in relatively quiet Rutland Street, as the name suggests. This makes for a nice and peaceful atmosphere when you sit outside, as there aren’t that many cars that drive by. They serve up hot and strong Supreme coffee, and have a nice cabinet filled with delicious-looking snacks. They cater very well for the vegetarian; in fact everything in the cabinet today was meat free(although they tell me this is not always the case). There was a yummy looking vegetarian version of a sausage roll(filled with chick peas instead) which I was very tempted to buy. The service was polite and friendly, and they seemed genuinely apologetic for their slow ish eftpos machine. Definitely a nice place to come down to if you have a uni break or if you work in that area.

Rutland Street Espresso is a real little hidden gem: just metres from Queen St, it seems to be somewhere that people discover and then don’t tell their friends about for fear it will be overrun. Well, please overrun it, it’s good. I’m stunned that people would still go to awful overpriced places like the chains around here when this place is available. The service is so good here that once we accidentally turned up here just before they opened officially(they were just doing some work in the serving area, but it was summer and the door was open so we thought it was open for trade!) and they not only happily served us, but didn’t charge us properly because the eft-pos wasn’t working and we only had about half of what we owed in cash. We were slightly embarrassed, but they were super relaxed about it and happy to chat through their plans for the place and where the coffee was from and the like. On top of this, they’ve turned what was a drab strange little takeaway place into a welcoming and relaxing space.
