The furniture part of this store was amazing! We got a coffee table, entertainment unit, ironing board and speakers for $ 85 delivered, and they were delivered to us that same night! The woman we dealt with was lovely, letting us put sold stickers on items while we kept looking, so no one else nabbed what we wanted. We’ll definitely be coming back here while we continue to furnish our apartment!

Was in the furniture section of this shop today and some of the staff were unbelievably rude– including one man in particular. The others were standing around chatting amongst themselves and when we tried to ask a another staff member a question he just said ‘I dont know’ and told us to ask someone else. I don’t know why these people insist on volunteering somewhere, only to drive customers away and actually cost the charity money– idiots: D !!

Definitely one of the best Salvos in Auckland, at least in the top three. I furnished my entire flat from this place; the furniture section is the best. Out the back down the drive is an entirely separate shop filled with couches, beds, cabinets, book shelves, chairs, kitchen tables, mattresses. I got an awesome three seater couch that was the comfiest thing ever, for $ 35, and two staff members followed me to my house all the way in Grey Lynn to help me get it inside. Um… nicest people ever? The clothing section isn’t the greatest, although I did get a sweet blazer from there once. It’s really cheap, which is the best thing about the Sallies.

Nothing like a bit of treasure hunting through the Salvation Army store. The stock ranges from amazing anitques to broken Mcdonalds Toys from the 1980s. Can be really good entertainment to come here with a friend or two, and just find funny stuff to show each other. It can also be a practical place to shop, say if you have just moved into a new flat and you need a coffee table or a set of drawers. One lucky find, a found a set of old Frank Miller comics, in reasonably good condition, which only cost me like $ 5. That’s $ 5 to a good cause, and an afternoon of entertainment for me.

The staff here can be pretty rude and the musty smell is on the strong side but harden up and get in there. It’s another one with a vintage rack but you’ll need to look through everything to find the goodies.
The best thing about this shop is that down the driveway at the back is a whole dedicated space for books which you could spend hours in. I found my treasured copy of The TV and Radio Times Cookbook here which is a classic New Zealand kitchen tome and not only that — there was not one but two other copies of it!
Upstairs in the main shop you’ll find all the usual junk, toys, shoes, homewares and of course clothing. Along with some characters which no proper op shop would be without.

Thank God for the Sallies! The world needs more organizations like the Sallies, I think. You can find Salvation Army family stores scattered throughout Auckland and the service they provide for less fortunate people in the local area is just amazing.
They recycle clothing, furniture, bric a bracs, toys and books. And every profit they earn from the revenue from these stores goes right back into supporting their community work.
Not just for those on a tight budget, you will find many a thrift store lover combing the aisles, looking for that ‘vintage’ find that’s been overlooked.
One of their great services is that they will come to your place to pick donated goods up from you, if you don’t have the time to drop it in store. The man who came to pick up some of my flatmates unwanted furniture on Saturday morning truly was a lovely soul.

Maybe it was my lucky day but I walked into this Salvation Army and found exactly the two things I had been looking for. One was a pair of plain black shoes (surprisingly difficult to find second hand in your size and desired style) and the other was one of my favourite board games of all time, 30 Seconds (which you can no longer buy new and I have been on the look-out for for AGES). So that definitely bumped up the coolness factor of this particular op shop. Otherwise it was a pretty standard Salvation Army store and had the usual range of clothing and accessories, furniture, bric-à-brac, books and music. It’s also right next door to a Red Cross shop so you can go for the double whammy of second-hand sanctuaries all in one stop.

We’ve donated clothes, household appliances and other miscellaneous items here a number of times and I think I might stop. The people in the store just seem a little ungrateful. You walk in there with a bag brimming full or actually good stuff and they don’t even say thank you. They just tell you to put it in the trolley with all the other stuff. I don’t know, maybe I’ve been in there on particularly busy days or something but I just think if we make the effort to specifically go there to donate, the people working in the store should be a little more grateful. But perhaps they just get too many donations! In which case they should just tell me and I’d be happy to take my stuff elsewhere.
