As a student I am always looking for cheaper options so if you are looking for a cheap haircut look no further as women’s haircuts are only $ 25. The graduate students I have had are always very competent and I’ve never had any problems and am pleased with the end result. As the students have to get approval from the tutors regularly throughout the haircut it can take awhile as tutors are not always available. My cuts take between 2 – 3 hours, but I do have annoyingly long hair.

When I first started uni a friend of mine told me about this place. This was originally when they were on Durham Street and the reason I stopped coming here was because I did not like the new place. Anyway, that aside the service was okay, decent cuts for what were only $ 15 or $ 20 back then and eventually up to $ 25 to what they are now. The tutors were all friendly and the students were always keen to sign you up for treatments when they had evaluations coming up. I got 2 free perms this way which was brilliant. I had some really nice hairdressers over the years too and the other great thing is that they do not push product onto you. They do stock product but are not like some other(in particular chain hairdressers) salons that are wanting to get. If you are curious go and check it out for yourself, you’ll save a lot of money over time too.

I’ve never yet found a hairdresser I’m super happy with in Auckland(that should be possible without having to pay $ 160 a time right?) so in the meantime I’ve been getting my haircut by the students at the Servilles Academy. You might be a bit scared about getting a learner to cut away at your hair, but really you don’t have much to worry about: they’re all supervised by their tutors, who can step in and fix stuff up if needed — although I’ve never needed them to — and they also are all pretty careful. It’s good to go in being pretty open about what sort of cut you’d like as you’ll find that often the students will want to test out what they’ve just been learning. It’s also super cheap: $ 25. However, you pay in your time: you should be prepared to be there for about two hours as the student gets the cut checked by tutors and generally just takes their time as they’re trying to get it right.
