Huge area to take kids for a play, Has alot of land and most of it has a path. Can get abit muddy in places but still avoidable. Has a duck pond for tots and a playground for primary kids and forts for older kids.

Sir Barry Curtis Park is an awesome place to spend a sunny afternoon in the Botany Downs area. Its perfect for a very long game of hide and seek(92 hectares of possible hiding places!), or you can find a nice spot for a picnic lunch. It’s very popular with families, especially when kids are done with school and they’re rushing over to the wetland playground. It is a very cool playground though, with a little lookout to climb up to and my favourite, the spider web net climb, which I’ve climbed many times! For the older kids, there’s a skate park which one of the better ones I’ve seen in Auckland. Its got a neat skate course and a couple of skate bowls aswell. There are a number of entrances to the park, with one side being near the playground and the other being near the basketball court and skate park. I’ve also seen people pitching up their volleyball nets here, a great idea and way to get a big group together and get active! The park is great for going for runs and or even a leisurely walk. I’ve come here a lot to just chill out and walk around– its always a fun place to explore. There are also giant bench seats scattered across the park if you want to sit down and enjoy the view(which is great, by the way– they did a great job on the landscaping). The park is still in development which means in can only get better; perfect for families and for getting that fresh we all need once in a while!

A newish, man-made park, Sir Barry Curtis is not my idea of a good time, but has a certain arty ambience. For example: circling walkways that don’t go anywhere, random hills you climb up and down for no reason, and then there is the mud when it rains. Oh, and did I forget to mention that there aren’t enough trees, or rather they are too young to give any shade? This park is a real let down, but at least it has a nice pond to stare at for a few minutes, a view of the Buddhist temple which is quite cool, and a playground which would amuse your kids. Aside from those few saving graces, it’s basically just a place to walk your dog and get out quick.
