Smith and Caugheys is an Auckland institution. I’ve been shopping (and wishing) for make up, perfumes and some clothing for years. From your Grannies and grandchildren, mums and daughters all their needs are catered for. You want that special Royal Doulton christening gift? Smith and Caugheys. A small crystal vase? S & C .
Wait for their half yearly sale to really clean up with a bargain .
Always friendly service too.

A great place to visit during their twice yearly sales and also pre-​Xmas when their windows displays are up and Santa visits the 6^th floor. This Auckland department store is a classic go-​to place for household basics, especially kitchenware (from Kitchenaid to Emile Henry to Le Crueset). The service on all floors is great, the goods are well made and easily exchanged if not to ones liking. A number of designer ’boutiques’ fill the spaces, including Witchery at the front of the men’s section.

Here I’m reviewing the store at Christmas. If you have kids you simply MUST take them up to see Santa — level 6. Be warned at most times of the day if will take over an hour but it’s so worth it! I have made a Christmas tradition out of it and we have been since my eldest had her first Christmas 5 years ago. For $ 15 per child you get to wait along time in line but they have colouring in and Christmas fairies to keep the little ones interested, you them go up a lift where your through «the enchanted forest» lots of trees with lights and electric puppets in santas workshop etc. They ain’t silly there are 3 santas employed though the kids don’t know that and when you get to met the big man it’s very one on one, no rush at all, lots of chat and Santa looks fab as does his grotto very Scandinavian style, no tinsel here! The children get a lovely bauble for the tree after a few pics. Then it’s down to the kids dept for pic review and your away. I have all my girls baubles, I’m keeping them. I would love to have Christmas decorations from my childhood. Top Job S&C! See you next year!

This review is for the Benefit counter at smith and caugheys, I just got my brows done by Perri who is so much fun and brilliant at her job! Only costs $ 30 for my brows and then $ 40 for a brow mascara which is brilliant.

customer service at its best. Smith and caugheys is amazing when it comes to making their customers happy. Whatever they sell is A1 quality nothing here is fake and if you re not satisfied with the product they will happily return it for you. They make sure that their staff look neat. I think smith and caugheys is a great place to shop.

I really liked that there was a Benefit beauty bar here! Good selection of beauty brands.

I’m not one of those people who goes into raptures over any department stores. In my opinion if I’m going to fork over hundreds of dollars for a designer item of clothing I’d rather go to the designer’s store to buy it direct. In saying that though, it is a good place to have a browse if you’re bored and they do have pretty good specials on once or twice a year, especially in their beauty department. The city store is definitely the best out of the two in Auckland as well, it feels a lot more upmarket and who can go past the amazing Christmas window displays they have every year.

Smith and Caughey’s is a great place to come when you feel like being super fancy and splashing out on things you’d never normally buy. Well, that’s how I feel anyway! Every time I decide to be brave and venture in, I seem to leave with a maxed out credit card while busily justifying to myself why all those purchases were totally necessary!
My friends and I went to the MAC counter to buy all our makeup for a wedding. We didn’t find the girls particularly friendly or helpful, but in the end we bought all the things we needed.
I found the Dr Hauschka sales ladies to be exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable.
In the clothing department, there are great brands, including NZ designers — I was talked into buying a totally fab dress — that reminds me, it’s still in the bag! I’d better wear it!
The lingerie section is AMAZING.

Smith & Caughey’s is one of those places you can just drift around for a long time, looking at all the beautiful things. Every now and again you can pretend you’re rich and buy some little trinket; or, do what almost everyone else does and just wait for their twice-​yearly sales and elbow people out of the way to get what you want at 30% (or more) off. Watch for those late middle aged Remuera ladies though; they have practiced getting sale bargain for years and have sharp elbows.
Smith & Caughey’s is the place to go for a big range of skincare and make-​up, and also exquisite ranges of homeware and linen, as well as a lot of toys that you won’t find in other places.

Probably Auckland’s premier department store. If you are from the United Kingdom I guess it is like a miniature Harrods. A collection of higher end cosmetics, perfumes and colognes, clothes, and home ware — you will find all of the major European labels. I received really good service when I was buying a shirt, the lady must have spent like 30 min with me constantly bringing new potentials to my dressing room. It got to the point where if I did leave without buying anything I would have felt guilty for taking up so much of her time, luckily I found something which I liked

Ah bliss. Pure bliss. There are so many delights in Smith & Caughy’s it’s hard to get them all down onto paper. But here goes.
My favourite part is the perfume area. Wafts of sweet aromas fill the air and I love trying them all out. I also really like the younger clothes area ‘Miss Smith’. It’s filled with all my favourite brands — Karen Walker, Lonely Hearts, Twenty Seven Names and a whole lot more.
My friends and I also used to go hide up in the café during Uni breaks in the winter months. It’s cosy and they do a great salad.
The staff are always really helpful, especially in the women’s area. One lady spent ages helping my mum and I find my mum the perfect outit for an up coming wedding. She really understood her body shape and picked out so many good options.
