I like this teeny tiny bookshop. I like it because the first time I came here, I came here by accident because I happened to walk past it, and I had never heard of it, nor had any of my friends, and so it felt like I was the first person in the world to discover it. even though I most likely was not. I feel like this little K’Road spot is a secret that only a few people know about, and the fact that it’s a cramped little shop that is a bit messy and unorganised helps that idea. I like coming in here every now and then just to see what weird old thing has been added to the collection, even when I’m not intending to buy anything. Cool shop.

If this shop never sold any books, it would still be worth having around. It works as an ornamental fixture just as well as it works as a commercial venture. There is something very timeless about second hand bookstores, especially when they are so haphazardly put together. When there are lots of old books lying around, it always gives me the impression that there are probably secrets to be discovered. Maybe that is because when you learn something from a book, opposed to say Googling it, it gives you more of sense of discovery, you had to work hard for that information, rather than just punching a question into your search bar.

I like this place a lot. I like that they have comics strung up in the window, and I like that they’re terrible Marvel comics from the mid-​nineties because that’s when I started reading Marvel comics as a kid and so I will always have time for steroidal men with glowing eyes and too many shoulder pads.
I also like that this place is tiny. There’s something about small, cluttered bookshops that’s just so appealing. And there are more comics inside and they’re a cool mix of old ones and new ones, and they’re all only a few dollars, and there are obscure books about old TV shows and I’m pretty sure they had a copy of the first Tintin book in there once plus there’s even a dirty section behind a curtain and that’s probably got comics in it too because that’s just how awesome this place is …
I think I’ve only ever bought like two things from this place. But I just like that it’s there.

A 2nd Hand Bookstore which you might miss unless you wandered off the K Road and into St Kevins Arcade. What I like about this bookstore is that there is a discerning selection of second hand books. Some second hand bookstores are just full of other peoples tat but you can tell the staff know a thing or two about books and have selected which ones to sell. In fact, with its ‘adult’ section behind a seedy curtain, it’s a bit like the kind of bookstore you would find in Soho in London. Such independent bookstores are a rarity nowadays and I always try to buy a book here and give them a little business. When you are finished having a browse you can have a nice coffee with the other arty characters in the café at the back.

St Kevin’s Arcade holds a superb little book store, unobtrusively sitting between K Road and Myers Park. The shelves are laden with second hand books and your eyes will be racing around the walls faster than your brain can process all the information.
Personally, the fantasy/​sci-​fi and the horror sections just inside the door are my favourite. I can always find something to tickle my interest or some missing book for an incomplete trilogy I own. The staff will quietly let you browse but know their store remarkably well and can answer most, if not all, of your questions. There is also a fantastic comic book section and an AHEM adult section.
Book lovers should have this cluttered little shop clearly on their radar.
