Verbena Bar & Bistro

I had wanted to come here for a long time. Every time I drove past I thought there was something appealing about the place that tried each time to lure me in. Tonight I gave in. The inside wasn’t as I’d expected it to be. Out the back, the restaurant area has quite a few tables and chairs all looking out onto this super cute garden area. I was lucky enough to be seated right next to the window and so as I ate, the sun was setting beautifully and painting shades of red outside. I ordered the steak (same as my boyfriend so there would be no food envy). First we had some fries to start, which were very yummy! And then straight after we’d chomped the last chip our mains came out. They looked really good on the plate! Super professional and gourmet… well from what I’ve seen on My Kitchen Rules I think they were up to scratch. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the meal. The mashed potatoes, beans, steak, beetroots and most importantly the delicious sauce. I could have probably done with a slightly more cooked steak but I did ask for medium rare and it’s not like it was still alive on my plate. Just very tender and juicy on the inside.
I wish I had stayed for desert as the Crème brûlée looked great but I was so full there was no way I’d fit it in.

For two years I’ve lived in Birkdale, and I’ve only been in at Verbena twice, not a good track record, and I can’t seem to find a reason for it. They’re not too expensive, the food is good, and at night the atmosphere is quite nice.
The only reason must be that it does not appear baby friendly, and when you’re a new parent, you only look for places where they look the other way when your little cherub starts slinging his orange mush all over the place. Aahhh the pleasures of parenthood…
In fact Verbena Bar and Bistro is a really great place to join friends for a fine drinking and dining experience, it is value for money, and you will relish the memories you create here. I’m a fan, even if I’m not a regular.

Verbena Bar & Bistro is a fantastic local spot that is hidden away in the suburbs.
The bar is located at the front and the dining is just behind the bar. I loved the service which was very professional and friendly.
Verbena is a perfect spot on a cool night; to cosy up with a bottle of wine and platter of cheese, bread and dips.
The dinner menu I viewed has a really great range of main meals such as Confit of Duck leg and Braised Lamb shank.
I sampled some decadent desserts that are definitely worth returning for– do as I did and attempt the dessert tasting plate for two– you will be sweetly impressed.
I really hope to be back to sample the dinner menu which looked delicious.
