Must stop for beer and pizza lovers. I’m staying at the Château on the Park and took a walk to the Running Bull. First, the gal behind the bar knew more about beer than most carpenters know about wood, or car mechanics know of engines. She described the various local craft beers and even directed me to the brewery up the street Second, beer and pizza for $ 20NZ. Next, tv with the World Rugby Cup playing. I’ve been in New Zealand now for three days and think Kiwis are the best people on Earth. Better than Canadians, lol. They match that with great craft beers and a sturdy lifestyle. So you can’t go wrong at any restaurant that serves the local beer, but you can do better when the staff actually knows something about it.

So glad my husband and I finally stopped in to check out The Running Bull. The restaurant is attached to a hotel on Riccarton Ave and Deans Ave(with a parking lot in the back off of Bartlett Ave). This rustic casual bar and grill is famous for it’s carving boards that serve 2 or 4 people and offers top cuts of various meats(lamb, ribs, chicken, Akaroa salmon). The full menu offers delicatible meats, delicious pizzas and mouth-watering desserts. The Running Bull refuses to exclude any diet and also offers pastas, burgers, salads and tacos as well as some great bread options for starters. My husband and I split the Canterbury Angus Rib Eye(300grams) with a side salad and vegetables, but you can choose between fries, rosemary potatoes or mashed potatoes too. We definitely saved room for the Brownie Ice Cream Sundae which was definitely worth every caloric bite. We didn’t enjoy any cocktails, but they had a very enticing menu. The bar offers trivia on Tuesday nights as well as host of weekly specials(take a look at their website: ) that keep regulars coming back. This place is great for groups and perfect for group functions as they have a private room attached to the restaurant. There is also some patio seating off Riccarton Ave. I love the open view to the kitchen to watch the chefs hard at work on my dinner. Our waitress was polite and speedy; we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and look forward to coming back(particularly for the kg of ribs on Tuesdays!).
