It’s weird to think that about ten years ago, Halal meat was hard to get in Auckland. Nowadays, most restaurants offer it as a matter of course, and there are butchers like Younus dotted all around the city. Younus Halal is my local butcher, so I’d go here even if it wasn’t Halal, but the fact it is makes it a lot easier when I have muslim friends around for dinner. They sell cheap cuts of meat — you can pick up a kg of goat for less then ten dollars, or they do a great scotch fillet at a competitive price. The service isn’t the most friendly — but they do spend all day cutting meat, so you can’t really blame them for not being the most conversant. A good local butcher, but not worth driving across town for.
