Great dining experience at The Front Room last night. Staff were fantastic, very welcoming and attentive. Atmosphere was nice, very busy but felt intimate. Food was great, and the highlight was the ginger steam pudding. The only thing I can fault is that they didn’t give a steak knife with the steak main. Will definitely be back, maybe for brunch!

Good coffee & delicious warm crisp date scones — just the treat after a walk along the beautiful beach. Our dog knows the routine… walk then up the path over the dunes for a taste of front room fare. During the day the café is light buzzy and a great place to chill, especially outside into the garden. At night the restaurant has great fresh local food and a cool vibe outside around the bar and outdoor fires. love it

On my recent trip to New Zealand, go to spend a few days on the coast in Waikanae chilling. This was a local café that I had brunch in one morning and it was good — smashed avocado with haloumi and bacon hit the spot, along with the soy latte. Great selection of scones and cakes on display too.

Love the Front Room — it’s my favourite café/restaurant in Waikanae Beach. Great coffee, food and atmosphere. The owners remember your face and always make the effort to say hi even if it’s super busy. There is an outside area out the back which is great for those sunny days, and also an outdoor bar and fire place. Last time I was home we went for brunch and had the ‘stuff on toast — fresh berries, lemon ricotta, honeycomb & mint on toasted brioche’ — wasn’t sure how all this was going to go together but it was truly delish! Recommend.
