This little water front bar/café is sort of an all purpose hang out for the little town of Chałupy. They open some time between 9am and 10am for coffee and a few nice breakfast options then stay open until sometime between 11pm and 2am depending on what’s going on serving lunch/dinner/late night pizza’s(which were great) and a variety of really nice meals. I had a salmon tartar that was really tasty as well as a couple of different pizzas. In the evening(ok, well really any time) the bar is open for some nice beers, shots, whatever comes next… The staff is really friendly although there is a strange sort of unspoken process of them bringing menus(only in Polish) to the table and then waiting for you to go up to the bar to order. They also have movies almost every night on the outdoor projector, as well as lots of beach chairs that you can sit in on the astro-turf patio. It’s pretty clear this place acts a little like a community center since movie time every night seems to fill the place up. Ok… so about movies… There is apparently a standard in Polish movies that I don’t understand at all. The first night we watched(something I can’t remember) in English but all I could hear was one old Polish man speaking all the lines in a monotone sort of «Beuller, Beuller» voice. I guess this is a ‘lecture’ from the Polish perspective but it made it impossible for me to stop laughing because the underlying comedy was completely consumed by this mans voice… which in and of itself was very funny. Back to Surf Messa… I had a bunch of means and drinks here… everything was quite good and I’ll be back again next visit to Chałupy(welcome to).
