Plac Nowy (New Square) is the hub of Kazimierz with various pubs and restaurants on all sides. At night the place is buzzing with people, some of whom who have come specially to try Kraków’s speciality, Zapiekanka (sort of flat half-​baguette with various toppings, one of which will normally be cheese). There is a wide choice of Zapiekanka stands and most people have their favourite. During a day there are various markets selling with stands selling things as diverse from various junk and bric-​à-​brac to fruit and veg.

Der Nowy Plac Zydowski (der Neue Jüdische Platz) wird meistens schlicht ‘jüdischer Platz’ genannt. In der Markthalle kauften gewöhnlich die Juden von Kazimierz ihr koscheres Fleisch ein. Das alte Schlachthaus steht immer noch dort in der Mitte, heute sind hier kleine Kioske untergebracht. In einem gibt es die angeblich besten zapiekanki (=die polnische Antwort auf Kebab — auch polnische Pizza genannt) — zugegeben, die sind nicht schlecht.
Heute verkauft man auf dem Platz Nowy alle möglichen Waren. Ein Besuch hier ist sehr empfehlenswert, man kann wunderschöné Antiquitäten ergattern! Jeden Donnerstag reisen hier Taubenhändler an und jeden Sonntag findet hier ein Flohmarkt statt.
Um den Platz herum entstanden in den letzten Jahren gemütliche Cafés (Alchemia, Kolory und viele andere), die ich demnächst näher beschreiben werde :)
