Yet again another find on Unilocal whilst away in Poland. We happened to walk past this place and I recognised it from the photos online. We were then recommended by a local taxi driver to make sure we went! We headed down on the Friday night and waited a good ten to fifteen minutes to be seated(always a good sign!) We eventually got a booth in the train carriage which was bustling with a live band too! We all opted for a soup to start as we had been out in the cold all day it was a warming start! For the main I went for the obligatory schnitzel which was bigger than my face! Served with fries it was far too much! The other plates that arrived were a mixture of grills and steak and again each dish was probably enough for 2 people! Served with some pints bigger than a litre it was great. This place had the traditional feel about it complete with a vodka on the house as a sweet finish!

This is really good place– portions are massive, beer is big and prices are reasonable for Polish food worth to recommend to foreigners and locals equally. Food is really good– is very spacious in there and also there you can find like annex located almost in Planty Park from where you can admire views and partially Wawel Castle. Tasty, delicious selection of Polish food. and Beer!!! :))) Busy though…

This place was great. We went last night and we are going to go back. Great atmosphere and really friendly service. The food was delicious and other customers food looked better than ours, so much so that we are going back in a few days. When I say great value for money, I mean it! Couldn’t believe our bill at the end. Live music also. A must see place!

This restaurant has a good reputation but it was always full of tourists so I never gave it a go. Today was that day. We waited in the line to get the table like we were waiting to get into popular club on Saturday night. There was 15 people behind us. Place was packed. We were served rather quickly and food is truly amazing. I was having ribs and they were super tasty. I did ask for both sauces, half half. It went well with nice big glass of beer. It’s totally worth the hustle of waiting in the queue. I recommend.

We visited it twice. First time it was OK(just OK), but, as one review stated, they focus on the quantity and outside look rather than quality. The plate was large and full of food, but it was rather cool, and some meat was not soft, because it cooled down. It was still OK. Second time it was worse. They were busy, and the waiter never came back to ask if the food was OK. We asked and reminded 3 people to bring us a chip of butter. Then the waiter forgot us, and we went looking for him to ask for a bill. Then he asked if everything was OK as if he could change anything. He sensed that we did not like it, so he added 3 Zlotys for that tiny piece of butter. Their great location created a great demand, and it spoiled them.

check my profile pictures. The ‘meat mountain‘ is exactly what they offer at this place for ONLY around 15 euros. Amazing place. They also have local dark beer here! And I had 1.5 liters of beer to help digest those meat: P

*Sigh* This restaurant was disappointing on several points. It took almost 15 minutes after getting seated for our waiter to even come to the table. The couple that was seated across from us arrived later than we did, yet got to order their food before we had even ordered our drinks. Our starter plates began on a good note, however the rest of our dinner was… well, disgusting. The pirogis and prawns were very tasty, but it ended there. My friend ordered the Argentenian steak, which she claims was a little bland and the broccoli was dry. I had a dish recommended by our server: the potato pancake stuffed with beef and topped with mushroom gravy. Good god, this was HORRIBLE. I literally ate 2 bites of food and had to set it aside. The waiter stopped by our table about 20 minutes after our food arrived, and when asked how we liked our food, I thanked him for the recommendation, but told him I didn’t enjoy my food at all. His response? «Well, I like it and many other people like it.» He never offered to remove it from the bill or asked if I wanted something in it’s place. Despite the terrible dinner, we decided to give the Apple Strudel a try. That was a mistake as well. The pastry shell was gross and had a terrible aftertaste. Save your time and money; go elsewhere while in Krakow.

Amazing! We ate here multiple times on our short trip Krakow. Extensive gluten free menu. Still dreaming about the cabbage and mushroom pierogi and the egg nog layer cake.

This place is awesome! It offers a loud bustling environment with plenty of beer and huge portions of traditional Polish food and other regional favorites. Perfect for a casual dinner, especially if you’re going out after!

Loved this place for the atmosphere. I ordered the weiner schnitzel which was HUGE! It tasted just ok tho – not fantastic. However, they serve a cold potato salad which seemed to have a little horseradish in it and oil of some kind that I am searching for the recipe for. It was fantastic! Totally!!! If and when I go back to Krakow, I am eating here all the time if I can. Loved the place. Service is a hoot it’s so bad, but if you flag down your server they will get to you. Price is super cheap for what you get, for sure. Just a do not miss place in Krakow!

The restarant serves absolutely the best«Giant schnitzel» in Krakow ;) It’s huge and tasty. I recommend visiting the place on Mondays when there is a special price for this dish. The rumour says that they also serve very good shrimps however I didn’t have a chance to try. Pod Wawelem is a perfect spot to meet up with friends, eat decently and have a glass of beer. Attention: normally in polish restaurants when you ask for a big glass of beer it means 0,5 l. At «Pod Wawelem» it means one liter !

On our second trip to Kraków we finally got a rebuke as our previous attempts failed due to hour long waits for a table. This place is VERY popular with tourists and upon completion of the meal, we rated it as the worst we had, but it was still good, just other places were far better. It is reasonable, as four of us ate and drank like kings and queens for $ 45USD. Make sure you SHARE as the portions are very large. We ordered the platter for two and the four of us could not finish. The large beers are VERY large. The pork knuckle was not even close to the quality found in the square at the kiosks. The food was good, just not great as the rest of our experiences in Kraków have been.

Für né Touri –Klatsche gar nicht schlecht. Essen sehr lecker und mehr als genug. Bedienung nett und flott, etwas zu amerikanisch für mein Gefühl.(Hello my name is ., i’m zur waitress today, what can I do for you… blabla). Lecker Bier, Achtung: klein ist 0,4l! Kann, muss aber nicht…

Outstanding location, employees and food. We’d eat there every day if we knew we wouldn’t end up severely overweight! Ania our server was incredibly helpful and continued to bring us samples of things to try. We settled on meat… And a lot of it. First the cold appetizer of the wooden platter of sausages and meat(garnished with horseradish, beetroot salad, a tomato and an egg) was seasoned so well, we didn’t want to stop for the main dish we choose to share(after seeing the burly men behind us not finish)… the pig knuckle(best we’ve had in Krakow) with some fries and a side of cucumber salad with sour cream(needed a touch of salt). OHYEAH! The kabobs as well as the chicken at the other takes looked super yummy… Thankfully we decided to hold off on trying that for another time. Oh, make sure it’s someone’s birthday at the table(and let the server know) for an extra special treat. Despite Ania’s recommendation to have the tiramisu for dessert, we opted for the apple strudel with vanilla ice cream… Which wasn’t very tasty(yes we should have listened). Thankful we had some various flavored vodka’s, which completely made up for it. This place was great!

What a feast! My friend came here 4 years ago but didn’t remember much… But what a great idea! The place was full and the service is fast, alays running(sometimes not a good thing). BIG portions and a lot of meat! Try the Bigos, as polish starter, cheese board and to main dishes: skewered meat and the one with different types of meat. We were 4 people with 1 big starter, 2 main dishes that e shared and were BIG, 40cl beer payed 108zl! Great for tourists, groups, families and friends but not very intimate of quiet!

Oh wow! This place is epic. Although this place has German features the Polish dishes like the bigos and the stewed duck are one of a kind. The portions and sizes of every single menu item are probably an example of what the kings and queens ate at the wawelem castle, which is found right in front of this place. I have visited this place several times already, even once while a live band was performing. The price-quality and the service are superb, not mentioning the warm atmosphere! Definitely a must when you visit Krakow…

If you visit Pod Wawelem, be sure to try their famous crispy golonka. It’s a sight to behold: a giant pig’s knuckle perfectly roasted, served on a chopping board. Over full kilo(2.2 lb) of meat and pork fat. I recommend ordering one per person just for hilarity. Eating just half will leaving you physically immobile grasping for air, let alone the whole thing. And, yes, the wait staff at Pod Wawelem will not warn you if you’re ordering too much food. That would take away the fun now wouldn’t it? There’s a scale inside the restaurant so you can weight yourself before and after eating.

come hungry, or come back later! Portions the size of my head, and so delicious to boot. The bierhall/pierogihouse/burgershack Mashup was totally ok, because I was there to eat! One dish per person is enough, you’ve been warned. There’s always the vomitorium. MMM, tastes good both ways I bet.

What’s with the white lab coats? I thought I was being greeted by creatures from a TC Boyle novel set in a sanitarium, and complete with a clipboard. On a day when the high temp was 36 C, I did manage to eat outside. There were several lone diners outside, which I found comforting. I really suggest Pod Wawelem is 3.5 stars, but Unilocal doesn’t yet have such option. If you’re a tourist or with a group, you’ll LOVE this place. Definitely pre-game, as they say at university, before you come, as you’ll be less caring about the noise level, which was intense, thanks to a couple groups of guys who must have also pre-gamed. But, one expects noise at a place like this, so I wouldn’t downgrade for that. Service was quick and efficient, as was the food delivery. I had the duck. The portion looked huge(½ a duck), but there was a lot of fat, not a very good piece of meat. At 30 zloty though, price wasn’t bad, so I wasn’t expecting confit de canard. The setting is very pleasant, next to one of Krakow’s many parks, and in a nice area. Stroll around Wawel Castle before or after dinner, it’s right across the street.

This place is funny, part traditional Polish restaurant, part German-style Bierstube, part American-style diner. The result is interesting both in the combination of dishes on the menu, and in the interior decoration. The staff all wear weird white lab-coats LOL. Check out the men’s bathroom with the vomit-sink, that is a special sink where you can relieve yourself, in case you had one beer/sausage too much, so you can start all over(see photo). This place is v popular with tourists and locals alike, and if you wanna dine on the pretty veranda, you have to book well in advance. Note: I find the fact that the vomit sink is only present in the men’s toilet a bit discriminatory(’cause I know a lot of girls who drink more than sailor men :-)

We took a shot on this place because its close to our hotel and the Unilocal reviews were good. As an American. when i hear«huge portions» for a restaurant in europe, it usually means its regular american size. I really should have listened to the Unilocal reviews! We ordered several dishes and there almost wasnt room on our table for all of them. We had strawberry pierogis, potato and cheese pierogis, a chopped steak meal, a potato pancake stuffed with beef and potato pancakes with smoked salmon on top. It was literally enough food for 10 people and there was only 4 of us. All food was good and service was great. Id go again!

Hofbräuhaus Krakaus. Voll, Musik, Schreierei, Super-Stimmung. Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Bier in Maßkrügen. Grottenschlechtes Essen. Dorsch war total verkocht, Gemüse kalt und schmeckte nach gar nix. Pilze waren roh. Rouladen auch kalt und total verwässert. Das einzige Genießbare war die Buchweizengrütze. Zum Saufen ok, zum Essen totaler Reinfall.
