Państwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau

It is the sort of place that should have never existed, but now must be kept for all current and future generations to learn and avoid repeating history. The place it horrible, depressing, creepy, terrible, but the preservation and the tours are amazing. The tour guide we had was very tactful and sensitive, but touch upon all kinds of political, social and historical topics which can come to mind. Was very knowledgeable and responded all of our questions satisfactorily. There is no much to say about the place, except that it should be visited by everyone!

Seeing is believing and the realization this truly occurred is mind numbing. I hope every person who visits Poland takes time to visit and remember the masses that suffered here, as well as their loved ones, in prayer and in reverence.

I don’t think you can rate a place like this, so I’ll limit my comments to practical tips for those visiting:
*Wear very good shoes, as terrain can be uneven and muddy if it’s been raining. There is a lot of walking, so again be prepared for that.
*Buy tickets ahead in high season, as the site is busy almost every day of the year. During high season you will be required to join a tour of Auschwitz I but Birkenau is always accessible.
*You’ll have to go through security before you enter the site. It’s not an efficient process so be patient and do not bring bags or packs larger than 8×12″.
*The site is broken into 2 camps a few km. away from one another — you start at Auschwitz I and then are shuttled to Auschwitz-​Birkenau, or you can walk too.
*There are limited facilities — a small snack bar, WC’s at both sites and a bookshop.
*Visitors are encouraged to take photos but for the love of god please be respectful. My punching fist was itching HARD seeing people take selfies in some pretty grim places.
For me, it was an overwhelming experience — we’ve all seen the photos and the documentaries but I can tell you that 30 seconds in one of the Birkenau barracks taught me more than any history show ever could. Even though it was a hard day, I believe every person, everywhere should visit this place — especially before voting. Because this is where hate speech leads us — we cannot and should not forget that.

It was a bit confusing on how we would get an American guided tour. The entrance is free, but if you bring a backpack, you would need to check it in and pay a locker fee ($ 1 – 3.can’t remember the exact amount). A guided tour comes with a fee. We were prepared to pay the fee, BUT it was sold out.
Tip: Do your research and figure out how to get in the guided audio tour. It would make all the difference. There is a shuttle that takes you to the second Auschwitz camp, where the train tracks are, and I highly recommend you leave your backpack at the first place b/​c the second place does not have any lockers and they won’t let you in with a backpack.
Being here, and any other camps throughout Europe, makes me very heavy-​hearted. Humanity can be so cruel when there is so much fear and authority in leadership. I will not spoil your visit if you haven’t been, but this experience makes you hopeful that history will not repeat itself.

Visiting Kraków with a main purpose of visiting this site was something I wanted to do at the beginning of my European adventure, however I saved it for the end. Having heard from multiple friends that the experience of it would leave me in a state of disbelief because of the scale of it along with the emotions that come from seeing what occurred at the site. For me, there were definite moments of emotion when seeing the belongings of the victims along with the room of hair. When you head to the second site, which definitely do not skip this portion, you really understand the scale of what happened.

I fully expected to be sobbing the entire tour of Auschwitz, but the shock and horror of the atrocities that occurred in the same place where I was standing prevented any waterworks. The guides were sensitive to the topics being discussed, yet very to the point and informative. You’ll battle many emotions as you walk through the buildings, as you see the piles of hair from the victims, as you see personal belongings, and even as you see their pictures hung on the walls. It was a very sobering experience.
The Birkenau camp was very eerie, to say the least. To stand in the same spot by the train tracks were «the selection» occurred left me speechless. That place has got to be haunted.
No matter what part of the globe you reside in, you must make the trip to Poland to see Auschwitz. We shall never, ever forget what happened behind those walls.

This is a truly humbling experience. Especially seeing the conditions in Birkenau, which are horrifying.
It should be made compulsory for everybody to visit this camp to ensure that nobody in the future is treated in such a manner.
The museum itself is very ‘interesting’ if you can call it that. There is lots of stuff to see and I would advise a tour guide if it is your first visit as otherwise you won’t know where to start.
Auschwitz itself isn’t as horrible as you may expect on a lovely summers day, however when you look into the museums and see the exhibits then you realise how horrible it actually is.
Birkenau on the other hand is just absolute hell and you will be distraught at how human beings were forced to live.
A must visit.

They don’t let individuals in prior to 3pm. Why not? I have no idea, as there were plenty of people who walked in as a group then separated at some point. The only thing that makes sense is that group-​only entrance allows them to collect revenue from tour guides, since the museum is free. Why not just f’in charge entry fees so people who hope to go their entire life without ever participating in a tour can experience the museum in solitude.

Das Museum Auschwitz-​Birkenau ist wirklich sehenswert, wenn man sich für die jüngere deutsche Geschichte interessiert. Leider bringen die Polen es nicht wirklich fertig, hier gut organisiert die Scharen von Touristen sinnvoll zu behandeln. Telefonisch ist überhaupt niemand zu erreichen, um eine geführte Tour zu reservieren, also sind wir «auf gut Glück» nach Polen gefahren und haben nur alles andere drumrum geplant und reserviert. Dort angekommen, sagte man uns dann, daß die deutschen Führungen für diesen Tag schon ausgebucht seien — na toll! Wir schlossen uns also einer englichsprachigen Führung an. Aber alles im Vorfeld war wirklich mehr als chaotisch. Bis man an diversen Schaltern endlich mal denjenigen gefunden hatte, welcher die Tickets verkauft, suchte man danach nach dem Startpunkt der Tour. Dort befanden sich dann mehrere Gruppen, die dort warteten und man wußte nicht, auf welchem Kanal des Kopfhörers nun die eigene Tour, die englischsprachige, war und wo sich diese befand und stattfand. Ich versuchte, mich bei einer deutschen Tour einzuklinken, wurde aber von der Führerin sehr barsch und unfreundlich daran gehindert, obwohl die Gruppe sehr klein war. Insgesamt waren die Polen dort nicht wirklich freundlich uns deutschen Touristen gegenüber, was man vor dem Hintergrund der Geschehnisse und des Anlasses dieses Museums vielleicht auch etwas nachvollziehen kann. Dennoch haben wir keine Erbschuld und sind heute ja zahlende Gäste, aber sei’s drum…
Das Gelände selbst ist sehr interessant: Die Führung beginnt im Stammlager I und wird dann per Shuttlebus im LagerII Auschwitz-​Birkenau fortgesetzt. Interessant jedenfalls, wenn man sich für diesen Teil der deutschen Geschichte interessiert.
Und sehr beklemmend, wenn man die Berge von Utensilien sieht, die den Gefangenen abgenommen wurden. Am schlimmsten fand ich den Raum mit den Tonnen von Haaren, die zu Gewebe weiterverarbeitet wurden. Echt beschämend — und ich schämte mich für die Systematik und Organisiertheit des Massenmordes, der durch Deutsche verübt wurde.
Das Lager in Birkenau war vom Ausmaß so beeindruckend wie bedrückend wie ich es erwartet hatte. Unglaublich, was hier abging — und schier unfassbar, welche Ausmasse dieses Lager hatte, in dessen Gaskammer der Massenmord erstmals industriell durchgeführt wurde. Unfassbar, welches Leid sich hier abgespielt hat. Und erst wenn man hier wirklich steht und sich das Ausmass des Lagers wirklich ansieht, kann man nur ansatzweise nachvollziehen, was man in Schulbüchern und Dokumentationen schon so oft gesehen und gelesen hat. Und ich habe mich wirklich ergriffen für meine Vorfahren geschämt!

I had gone to Auschwitz (but not Birkenau) way back in July of 1982 — with a friend from Norway — in the midst of Martial Law in Poland. Understandably, hardly *anyone* was visiting Auschwitz at that time (or anywhere *else* in Poland, for that matter) and we wandered around the grounds by ourselves (that’s certainly no longer an option). When we left Krakow that night and took a train bound for Budapest, we were forcibly removed from the train by four Czech border guards and we were then held hostage for several hours. There’s much more to the story and it was like something out of a spy movie — including the manner in which I’d obtained a visa for Poland, not to mention what happened during a visit to Poland with my husband four years later which was connected with the border incident from 1982 — but suffice it to say my memories of visiting Auschwitz during that long-​ago era were connected with what transpired later. My husband hadn’t ever been to Auschwitz and I’d been wanting to return — especially because I hadn’t been to Birkenau — so today was finally the day.
We’d visited Buchenwald & Sachsenhausen seven months ago and we’d visited Dachau long ago, but those evil places don’t even come close to the overwhelming evil perpetuated at Auschwitz & Birkenau. It’s almost impossible to comprehend until you see it in person, no matter how much reading you’ve done or how many documentary films you’ve watched. The one place where I fell apart today was the glass wall behind which were objects brought to Auschwitz by young children. To say that the evil was incomprehensible at that point is to seriously understate the situation.
I’d arranged for a private tour guide (someone who’s employed as a guide at Auschwitz-​Birkenau) via the Auschwitz Jewish Center (part of the Museum of Jewish Heritage) in NYC, since we didn’t want to be part of a large tour — and we didn’t see anyone else with a private guide, but meanwhile there were *hordes* of large tours; even on a weekday at the beginning of May. Summer is even (much) more insane, so you really need to plan accordingly — and if in fact you want to hire a private guide, you need to arrange it 2 – 3 months in advance (the cost for the two of us was equivalent to $ 65 [payable when you make the reservation] and the tour lasted for three hours). Our guide was very pleasant and extremely informative.
There’s a huge amount of walking involved and it’s often filled with uneven stones/​etc. As an aside, there are bookstores at the entrances to both Auschwitz & Birkenau and many of the books are sold in several different languages. The employees at both bookstores were very helpful and friendly.

It is a place where I can not be longer than required and not only so depressing place of remembrance but also is so sad to be there and scary too… long lasting feeling of rejection, pain and suffering later…
It is important to know the history but I really did not like it… nothing at all…
It is said that we all should be there once in a lifetime but I would not like to come back ever, as a tourist or in any other way… is something in there that made me feel so cold…

To visit Auschwitz, outside Krakow, should be obligatory for everyone.
It looks like a Hollywood movie set, yet this is one real hell on earth. The guided tour took about 3 hours and I cried constantly behind my sunglasses. The horror happened here over 60 years ago yet mankind has sadly learnt very little since. Both in the way we treat fellow earthlings as well as other humans. Compassion and common sense certainly and sadly aren’t mankind’s strongest features.
Just like when I visited Robben Island, outside Cape Town, the visit to Auschwitz will be a life long memory.

I don’t feel right reviewing Auschwitz so I’m just going to say, it’s an incredible, powerful, heartbreaking experience that everyone should do. Take tissues. Take a guided tour and do it.

I hired a private tour guide (via Viator) which included being transported to and from my flat in Krawkow in a Mercedes van. The ride is about an hour long. They played a short documentary that was pretty graphic en route which made me almost yell, «I don’t wanna go! Turn the car around! I can’t do this!»
The documentary went into great detail about the transgressions of Dr. Josef Mengele. I really thought I was going to toss my cookies before I even got there — just nerves and knowing that I was about to experience a place where horrible atrocities actually happened 70+ years ago. I kept imagining how the prisoners-​to-​be must have felt.
I met my tour guide, Thomas, at the gate. We whisked past the «Arbeit macht frei» gate and it was just so surreal. I have seen footage of this place for at least 25 years. Now I was here. I was numb.
So glad that I got to experience this firsthand! I just wished that I went during the week to avoid the crowds. I also wished that I had more time to stare and explore various things. I felt a tad hurried through some of the more popular exhibits.
Note: Birds are actually there! I looked for them. But being that the day was overcast, wet and quite cold; I didn’t see a lot just hanging out though. BUT THEY WERE THERE! So that urban legend is debunked.

I traveled alone on train and bus from Warsaw in order to see Auschwiz-​Birkenau during my trip to Poland because it was that important to me. This is an experience that I will never forget and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity. Walking along the same roads that millions of others walked along 70 years ago in completely different circumstances is humbling and eye opening. To see the belongings and the faces of those who perished due to inhumane acts brought tears to my eyes over and over again. I was astonished to see some visitors let their kids run wild, climb on things and take pictures as it they are standing in front of a ride at Disneyland. If I was running the place, they would be immediately escorted out and asked not to return but then again I don’t have those powers. If you are every in the area, Auschwitz and Birkenau are not to be missed.

Forever let this place be a cry of despair and a warning to humanity. Where the Nazis murdered about one and a half million men, women and children, mainly Jews, from various countries of Europe.
Most people already know something of the horrors which took place here but somehow seeing the place first hand really brings it home to you.
When you stare at the collection of 80,000 shoes which all belonged to people who died here or take the walk from the platform at Birkenau down to the ruins of the gas chambers, a walk which for over a million people was their last, you start to get a sense of the enormity of what happened here.
A very worthwhile visit, the guided tour lasts around 3.5 hours in total. The temperature was –12C (10F) when we went, if you are coming in the winter months then dress very warmly.

Not sure how to rate this since Woohoo! As good as it gets! Doesn’t fit, yet Eek! Me thinks not. Doesn’t work either.
Truth be told, it tears at your heart and you feel like you are stepping back through the pages of history.
Some people believe this place should be demolished and forgotten. I disagree, I think it’s important for us to remember how inhumane and cruel humanity can be. In the hopes, that we won’t repeat this misery.
I think, or at least hope, that anyone in the Krakow area would take the time to visit these concentration camps at least once in their lifetime.
No matter how you get here, cab or tour bus… Once you reach the camp, you are put into a large group, given a guide, headphones in your language of choice, and marched through the barracks, torture chambers, living quarters, medical buildings etc. It’s packed and groups move quickly. Ironically, that’s probably something that hasn’t changed. So feel it.

I took my son to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. to give him a background on the Holocaust as well as to brush myself up on the his history lesson. While the museum did a good job of educating the public about a horrific event in human history, it was hard to put into words how I felt while visiting Auschwitz. Even though what I saw were the remains of the places that evil acts happened, I can’t imagine the pain and suffering that the victims went through.
Our tour guide, Michal, did a great job for the duration of the tour. We started off the tour at Auschwitz I and ended the tour at Auschwitz-​Birkenau. Auschwitz I was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but Auschwitz-​Birkenau was a lot more massive. Many of the wooden barracks had been stripped of the wood panels, but there are a few remain. The brick barracks still remain and it was hard to imagine how between 800 to 1000 people can fit into one of them. There were Nazi guard posts throughout the camp and the barb wire fence surrounding the camp. Most of the structures are the original that were used by the Nazi.
Overall, I find my visit very informative. I am glad that I went. The guides tour was very helpful and I am glad that we were required to get a guide because we showed up before 3:00PM. It was money well spent here.

An incredibly difficult to visit, that’s for sure
I came to Auschwitz while on vacation with Trafalgar and it’s well worth the visit. Please do yourself a service and go with one of the tour guides (they offer tours in a variety of languages: English, German, Dutch, French, etc) — you’ll get so much more out of it. It was so eerie to be touring a site where so much death and sadness occurred, and despite how uncomfortable it is/​can be, it’s something that speaks louder than any history book. We were able to go into living quarters, see the gas chambers/​crematorium, see the wall between Blocks 10 – 11 where the shootings take place and see where the prisoners came in. Seeing the Daily Life of the prisoners, the Harvesting of Belongings, the suitcases with names really is like nothing else you will ever experience. One of the more raw parts of the day was seeing the hair of victims that had been shaved still preserved– to see what the Nazis did to it was disturbing. I wish we would have had more time to see the different tributes to Jews lost (from Hungary, Czech, etc), but we were on time constraints
Make sure to take the shuttle over to Auschwitz 2 (Birkenau) and see the physical size difference and so you can get an understanding of who was sent over there. Go all the way back and really take it all in. Seeing the living conditions makes you realize how lucky you really are. A lot of the buildings were either destroyed as the Germans were leaving or taken down by the museum because of the lack of funds to preserve them, which is a shame.
There’s a part of a train car sitting on the tracks as you get into Auschwitz 2 that was found and restored by Frank Lowy and donated to the site in honor of his father. The story is that Frank and his family were living in Hungary in 1944 and his father, Hugo, went to get train tickets in order for his family to escape. Hugo was captured by the SS and was sent to Auschwitz, his family never knew what happen to him. Hugo arrived at Auschwitz and was ordered to drop his packaged, which contained Jewish artifacts, and 3 times straight he refused which led to him being beaten to death. In the 1990s, Frank’s son, Peter, was on vacation in Florida and checking into a hotel and when he said his name, a gentleman behind him asked if he was related to Hugo Lewy. When Peter identified Hugo as his grandfather, the gentleman said that he was a survivor of Auschwitz and could tell him what happened to his grandfather. After the story checked out, Frank looked for a subtle way to remember his father and restoring old 3 old train cars that carried prisoners so that the Jews could be remembered was his way.

A horrifying reminder of the terror people endured during World War II and one of the most difficult places I’ve ever visited in my life. The fact that people were killed on this kind of scale is truly mind boggling. It’s literally miles upon miles of all kinds of camps, cells, barracks, torture chambers, etc.
If you happen to be in this region of Poland I wholeheartedly recommend taking some time to come here and honor those who died.

Fünf Sterne deluxe für ein Vernichtungslager, aber es müssten Judensterne sein. Alles andere ist nicht angemessen. Als ich mal dort war, in Auschwitz-​Birkenau, hat es mir nicht gut geschmeckt. Es blieb mehr als ein im Vergleich zu banaler, bitterer Nachgeschmack. Überrascht war ich nicht. Ich hatte damit gerechnet.
Zu gut hatte ich jedes Detail des deutschen Nationalsozialismus von vielen, verschiedenen, nie ausgewogenen Seiten beleuchtet. Mit den Leugnern, Zweiflern und mit Menschen, die sich wie ich nichts vergleichbares vorstellen hätten können. Ich hatte immer verstehen wollen: Wie hatte es so kommen können? Das Deutsche Reich in Perfektion: Eine arische Tötungsmaschine, deutsche Perfektion, made in Germany, im Reich der Wurm des Unerträglichen. Und Hannah Ahrendt hat den Hauptbuchhalter der Reichsgasverwesung Adolf Eichmann im Prozess beobachtet und die von ihm ausgehende Banalität des Bösen.
Wäre die Zeit, die verstreicht, ein Fluidum, in dem Menschen mit der Zeit klüger werden?
Wir schauen immer etwas hochmütig zurück und lächeln über zeitgeistige Angelegenheiten, verstrichene Zeitepochen wie z.B. Biedermeier, Barock, Gelsenkirchener Barock, Pilzkopffrisuren, Schlaghosen, Afrolook und vieles andere.
Der Nationalsozialismus in Deutschland aus der Mode gekommen. Die ihn noch hegen, dürfen wir nicht belächeln, nicht hochmütig noch süffisant, wir müssen diese Irren ernst nehmen. Sie sind und bleiben gefährlich, wenn sie auch dumm sind, erkennbar dumm. Aus deutscher Weltkriegsnachgeschichte blubbert auf geschichtslos gebliebenen Straßen im Beitrittsgebiet der deutsch-​deutschen Wiedervereinigung brauner Morast hoch. Er ist ohne genauere Kenntnis von der Geschichte 1933 bis 1945 entstanden und die sich auf rassistische Abgrenzung berufen, handeln ohne schlechtes Gewissen. Gewissen kommt von Wissen. Gewissen braucht auch Mitgefühl und Empathie, Einfühlungsvermögen in das unerträgliche Früher. Nichts wissen macht nichts, deswegen sind die großdeutschen Amplituden dummdreister Rechtsradikaler so gottvergessen. In Auschwitz finden wir diese Menschen nicht.
Dabei hat Deutschland traditionell besseres vorgehabt, früher. Ein schönes Land zu jener Zeit. Seit 1933 wurde unter Regierungsverantwortung die Rolle Germaniens umchiffriert: Dass der Tod ein Meister aus Deutschland ist, hat vor längerem Lea Rosh zum Titel einer Dokumentation über den Holocaust gemacht und ein Gedicht von Paul Celan ordnungsgemäß gebraucht, wie ich finde. Als ich sie einmal am Flughafen traf, habe ich ihr das gesagt. Sie war sehr erfreut, dass jemand so zufälliges wie ich sich an diesen Aspekt ihres Schaffens präzise erinnert. Die Todesfuge als Titel jener Dokumentation war meine Eselsbrücke, mich daran noch viele Jahre später erinnern zu können.
Später haben Zankfrüchte (Äpfel) Lea Rosh gescholten. Sie hat gleichwohl durchgesetzt, dass es in Berlin ein Stelenfeld zur Erinnerung an die Opfer des Holocaust gibt. Wenn sich heute dort gern fotografieren lassen oder Skateboard fahren, war das natürlich so nicht gewollt. Das sind die, die nicht fühlen bzw. wissen, was gewesen ist.
Mein Besuch in Auschwitz-​Birkenau war noch einmal ein Stempel drauf, eine Art Verstärkung meines fundamentalistischen Weltbildes, wonach derjenige, der Andersartige ins Gas schickt nichts anderes als das verdient hätte. Wäre ich nicht zutiefst gegen Vergasung und biblisch motivierte Rache. Auschwitz-​Birkenau, eine tiefe Erinnerung an das braune Deutschland gewissenloser, hässlicher Geister. Aufzählung derjenigen, die Täter waren, ist namensmäßig unmöglich. Anders ist es mit den Opfern, so wie beispielsweise die Verlesung der zu Tode gekommenen an der Jüdischen Gemeinde Berlin in der Fasanenstr.. Schauerlich. Zum Weinen. Und wie schön die Tradition, an die Opfer gewissenhaft zu erinnern.

Auschwitz-​Birkenau, «Verhalte Dich ruhig» steht dort auf den Toilettenwänden geschrieben. Ich schrieb meine Erinnerungen an den Besuch auf — ich habe geweint um die Opfer, deren Haare, Brillen und Schuhe vor mir aufgetürmt herumlagen. Nie wieder das, Du unsäglichste aller deutschen Epochen! Mit Schreck las ich von der Möglichkeit, Champion in Auschwitz zu werden, indem ich mich hier oft genug einchecke. Ich gebe zu, ich habe auf diese Möglichkeit gern verzichtet.

5 Sterne dafür, dass man sich davon überzeugen kann, dass diese grausame Vernichtungsanlage wirklich existiert hat. Als ich dort war, standen mir die Tränen in den Augen. Besonders ein Video, was man in einem der heute errichteten Kinosäle des Museums gezeigt bekommt, finde ich sehr ergreifend.
Dieses KZ ist noch besser erhalten und damit noch wesentlich authentischer als z.B. Buchenwald.

Fünf Sterne. Doch was sollen sie aussagen? Am ehesten, dass dieser Ort einen Besuch wert ist. Obwohl man ihn aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nicht noch einmal besuchen wollen wird.
Alles was man vorher über diesen Ort gehört, gesehen oder gelesen hat, bekommt hier ein Gesicht. Alles wird untermauert von präzisen Zahlen. Man ist fast beeindruckt von dem Grad der Organisation und Detailgenauigkeit dieser Vernichtungsanlage. Der Besuch ist ein einziger langer Moment des kalten Schauers auf dem Rücken, Ausschläge nach oben gibt es in den Baracken der Kinder oder in den Gasduschen.
Warum man sich das antun soll? Soll man nicht, wenn man nicht möchte. Wenn doch, seid darauf gefasst, dass euch dieser Besuch noch die ein oder andere Woche nachgehen wird.

Et le tout pour arriver la, dans ce lieu de rien, ce lieu abjecte qui me prouve que tout est possible et qui me rappelle que les malheurs ça n’arrivent pas qu’aux autres.
Après des trajets dans des trains bondés ou beaucoup mourraient faute de nourriture, d’espace, d’eau et de lieux dans lesquels faire leurs besoins, après une longue marche pour «les rescapés» pour arriver sur le lieu du tri, si ils étaient jugés inaptes au travail c’était parti pour ce camp d’extermination.
Ici on tue économiquement, on ôtait d’abord tout ce qui pouvait avoir une quelconque valeur: valise, vêtement, bijoux, dent en or, prothèse, cheveux puis on attend son tour à la douche pour «né pas attraper de maladie» bien sûr après on finit au fourneau, moyen le plus efficace de gérer les restes pour qu’il n’y ait plus de preuves et que ça né prenne pas de places.
Il faut y aller pour réaliser parce que les mots né sont rien mais je recommande vivement d’y aller accompagné même si au final, ça reste un grand moment de solitude

Dieses Video spiegelt die Freude und Dankbarkeit angesichts des Glücks,
dieser unsäglichen Barbarei entkommen zu sein, und es öffentlich genau an dem Ort der Vernichtung lebendig, tanzenderweise zu demonstrieren.
Das ist beispiellos und durchaus gewagt.
Lachen nach den Tränen, Freude statt Verbitterung, Menschlichkeit statt Fanatismus, und Leben trotz Gaskammer und Tod!
Darüberhinaus weckt das Video Bewußtsein und mahnt wider das Vergessen. Hier stehen unsere und nachkommende Generationen in der Pflicht: Niemals wieder!
Einer der letzten Zeitzeugen, Adam Kohn, tut dies gemeinsam mit seinen Kindeskindern (und gerade damit berührt er!) auf unkonventionelle und direkte Art und Weise!

Auschwitz fut le plus grand camp de concentration créé par les Nazis. Il s’agissait en fait d’un immense complexe concentrationnaire avec deux, puis trois camps principaux et de multiples «annexes». De plus, un camp d’extermination fut installé au sein du deuxième camp principal. Auschwitz fut créé à environ 60 km à l’ouest de Cracovie, près de la frontière germano-​polonaise, en Haute-​Silésie orientale, dans une zone annexée à l’Allemagne en 1939. Trois camps de grandes dimensions établis près de la ville polonaise d’Oswiecim (Auschwitz en allemand) constituaient le complexe: Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II (Birkenau) et Auschwitz III (Monowitz).
Au moins 1,1 million de Juifs furent tués à Auschwitz. Parmi les autres victimes, on compta entre 70 000 et 75 000 Polonais, 21 000 Tsiganes et environ 15 000 prisonniers de guerre soviétiques. A son apogée, Auschwitz-​Birkenau comptait jusqu’à 100 000 prisonniers.
Le 27 janvier 1945, l’armée soviétique entra à Auschwitz et libéra les plus de 7 000 prisonniers restants qui, pour la plupart, étaient malades et mourants. On estime qu’il y eut au minimum 1,3 million de personnes déportées à Auschwitz entre 1940 et 1945; parmi elles, au moins 1,1 million furent exterminées.
Trés dure visite, beaucoup de box différents: parmis eux on peut voir tous les cheveux coupés, encore plus dur, celui ou tous les vêtements de bébé sont en vitrine, un autre où une femme de 75kg est prise en photo pour montrer qu’après quelques jours d’expérience sur cette jeune femme, elle né pesait plus que 30kg… les fours crématoires, la chambre à gaz, la pendaison… tout est choquant, les larmes viennent vite… mais je devais le faire pour ma famille… En leur mémoiré!

Quels endroits étranges Auschwitz, un camps tout petit sur 3 ou 4 hectares, ou vraiment la folie, l’horreur et la douleur atteignaient ou emportait chacun 24h par jour
(Peut-​etre la folie y regne-​t-​elle encore puisque l’arc métallique surplombant la porte d’entrée vient d’y etre restitué apres vol et celà dans l’enceinte d’un musée fermé ???) Ainsi, Ici, ou fut experimentée la première salle de gazage le patron du camp Rudolf Hess vivait-​il avec ses enfants, à moins de 100m de la cheminée des fours, ainsi aussi l’hopital des SS trone-​t-​il à une largeur de rue de la cheminée des 2 fours, ainsi le confinement des lieux et la porte ridicule qui mene à la chambre à gaz obligeait-​elle les comdammés à passer d’abord vers les fours Quant à Birkenau, à quelques kms, une immense esplanade, à la fois grande et ridicule, 170 hectares pour 100 000 personnes et 4 usines à gazer au ziclon
vers la fin ces dernieres on été dynamitées par soucis de cacher.
Pourquoi les SS voulaient-​ils detruire leur oeuvre idéaliste puisqu’ils en étaient fiers ?
je crois qu’ils ont eu peur que les libérateurs Russes les passent eux aussi au four. Quelle étroitesse d’esprit a donc géré ces lieux dont on vous expliquera qu’ils étaient idéalement placés au centre d’une Europe dont on voulait vider les juifs et bien d’autres encore. Des lieux inondables et idéalement placés entre 2 rivieres, un lieu donc dont on né pouvait s’enfuir, dont personne né sortirait autrement que par une cheminée. Ces 2 sites (Auswith et Birkenau) à 3 km l’un de l’autre, m’impriment à l’esprit l’image d’ un trou noir débile ou il était prevu par des gangters fous que l’humanité allait y etre attirée et disparaitre.

es fällt sehr schwer hier nach dem Qype Standart zu bewerten und auch, das in irgendeiner Form diesbezüglich anzupreisen.
Ende der 90er führte mich die Reise mit meiner Großmutter an den Ort der Vernichtung ihrer Familie und somit auch meiner gesamten Vorfahren. Im letzten Jahr fuhr ich dann erneut dort hin, diesmal allein. Es ist ein Gefühl der Beschämung und eine bedrückende Stille, in welcher man sich förmlich wünscht, eine menschliche Stimme zu hören, wenn man für sich allein über das Areal läuft und das auch nur nach ein paar wenigen Minuten an diesem Ort, der auf ewig gebranntmarkt sein wird. Man muß sich Zeit mitnehmen um alle Einflüsse hier auf sich wirken zu lassen und um sämtliche Facetten der menschlichen Gefühle hier verarbeiten zu können. Ein Ort, an dem ich mich, sowie sehr viele andere sich ihrer Tränen nicht schämten. Unbegreiflich hingegen, dass eine zeitgleich angereiste Oberschulklasse aus Berlin dies als spaßigen Anlaß nahm, um laute Musik, lautes Gegröhle und infantile Kichereien als Zeichen des Unverständnisses zu präsentieren.
Und auch wenn ich mich als zugegeben nicht gläubiger jüdischer Deutscher nicht schämen müsste, so tat ich es doch und tue es auch an den anderen Orten des Erinnerns, wenn ich so etwas mitbekomme.
Eine Reise empfiehlt sich für jeden Menschen, ungeachtet des Namens, unter dem er Gott anruft oder der Hautfarbe oder sonstigen Einflüssen, die bereit sind dies auf sich wirken zu lassen und sich damit auseinandersetzen zu wollen. Nicht aus Neugierde oder aus dem Gefühl der Kollektivschuld heraus, sondern vieleicht als ein Zeichen der Bereitschaft des Lernens und des Verstehens gegenüber denen, die sich noch mit der eigenen Erinnerung daran tragen.

Das ehemals gößte KZ in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus ist heute ein Musem. Es zeigt auf Bildern und auch in Original belassenen Baracken der Arbeiter und deutschen Mitarbeiter wie es damals war. Originale Öfen und Gaskammern im Arbeiterlager beeindrucken in einem ganz eigenem Sinne. Das wohl bekanntste am KZ ist das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz Birkenau. Es sieht noch so aus wie man es aus TV usw kennt. die berühmte Einfahrt, die Todesrampe Wiedererbaute Holzhütten in denen bis zu 200 Leute hausten führen einem das Grauen vor Augen. die Originalen Gaskammer sind jedoch zerstört. Gedenksteine in allen mögliuchen Sprachen befinden sich am Ende der Todesrampe. Insgesamt sind die Führungen wirklich gut. Man bekommt viele Informationen, sieht viel und lernt viel. Was es zu bemängeln gibt, ist das sämtliche Beschriftungen im Museum nur auf englisch und polnisch sind. Das deutsche fehlt hier ganz eindeutig! Dafür kann man aber als Deutscher die Originalen Berichte und Schriftstücke lesen. Auch diese sind sehr impressiv.
