Plac Zamkowy

Es una plaza divina, en el corazón de la ciudad vieja de Varsovia. Fue reconstruida totalmente (como el 85% de la ciudad) luego de la Segunda Guerra mundial, pero viendo fotos del antes y el después quedó muy parecida a la infraestructura original, por lo que hicieron un muy buen trabajo. De esa plaza, lo único que sobrevivió fue la iglesia que se encuentra en uno de los costados y la escultura del rey (es original) pero la columna que la sostiene en lo alto así como el resto de los edificios que la rodean son nuevos.
Se llega por varias vías, pero la principal es la vía real (donde se encuentran más iglesias, monumentos y la actual casa presidencial).
En esta plaza encontramos también el castillo de Varsovia (vale la pena entrar al patio y mirar las cuatro paredes: son todas distintas. En la reconstrucción, los arquitectos decidieron imitar los estiloa de los distintos reyes que lo habitaron, así que hicieron una pared de cada estilo arquitectónico, como estaban en cada una de las distintas épocas según quién reinara en Polonia).
Está rodeada de lugares para comer y tomar cafés, y a unos pocos metros del río.

I was nineteen and a half, April was exceptionally warm that year and my heart was shattered. I had just stopped dyeing my hair dark but my short nails were always painted black.
It was a lovely evening, I was all alone sitting on the brick wall on Plac Zamkowy listening to Antony and the Johnsons. Tears were running down my cheeks and I was 100 percent sure my life would be filled with gloom forever and ever…
… That was six and a half years ago yet whenever I pass this beautiful square I always glance at that brick wall and remember the 19-​year-​old anxiety-​ridden version of myself. Plac Zamkowy — or Castle Square, if you will — is definitely one of my most beloved places in Warsaw. Not only is it beautiful with the Sigismund III Vasa column in the middle, the gorgeous white building that is the Church of St. Anna, the cute little houses of Old Town or the handsome Castle that is home to a very interesting museum nowadays. But it’s also a place of rememberance of the citizens of Warsaw, an excellent meeting point and just a cool place to sit and observe. There are numerous coffeeshops and (tourist-​oriented) restaurants around Castle Square and it’s never, ever empty.
This is the place to be at 5pm sharp on every August 1^st when the people of Warsaw remember the outburst of the ’44 Warsaw Rising, this is DEFINITELY the place to be for soccer fans when Legia wins the series (I was here in 2013 and it was so much fun to be a part of it, even though I personally root for another Polish team) and this is the place where various innercity fairs and free day concerts are organized.
Overall, I think this is a must-​see in Warsaw and if you’re ever in town, mark down Castle Square/​plac Zamkowy on your map with a red sharpie!

Der Schlossplatz befindet sich zwischen dem Warschauer Königsschloss und
der Altstadt. Von der Südseite war er durch die Stadtmauer und das
Krakauer Tor begrenzt.
Im Sommer steppt hier am WE und am Abend echt der Bär. Tolle Stimmung.

Am Ende oder Anfang des Königwegs, der vom Stadtschloss nach Wilanow führt entstand dieser Platz vor dem Schloss. Sigismundt steht auf seiner Säule, er ist von Warschauern ebenso geliebt, wie von den Krakauern gehasst, denn er ernannte Warschau wieder zur polnischen Hauptstadt. Vor 1944 war dieser Platz eine der verkehrsreichsten ganz Europas. Das Schloss selber ist aufwändig renoviert (heute ein Museum, das aber vor allem polnische Geschichte erzählt, ausserpolnische Besucher werden da gegebenenfalls kaum so beeindruckt sein) und nach diversen Umgestaltungen ist der Platz nun wunderschön und grenzt direkt an Warschaus Altstadt. Schon kurz nach dem Krieg wurde beschlossen den Verkehr unter dem Platz herzuführen, so dass er heute den Fussgängern gehört. Neuerdings gibt es von hier oben auch einen beeindruckenden Blick über die Weichsel auf das neue Zentralstadion, das zur EURO 2012 erbaut wurde.
