Cork & Co

It’s amazing how many things can be made out of cork. Located somewhat off the beaten path in Bairro Alto, Cork & Co showcases the best of what can be made of cork, such as handbags, umbrellas, wallets, and jewelry. Although the items are somewhat pricy (think about 25 euros for a bracelet) the quality of the items makes it worth the price tag. The store is lovely, and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you find a piece of jewelry you like but it is the wrong size, they are able to get other sizes to ensure the perfect fit. Considering Portugal is known for cork, this place is a must see for tourists wanting unique yet cultural gifts.

I was there a few weeks ago and bought a purse.
Overall, I think Cork and Co. is a super cool concept: all the merchandise is made out of cork. They have a great design eye, and I found myself attracted to a lot of the items they had in stock. The customer service was also very strong.
I bought a purse there and once I wore it, some of the color of my clothing rubbed off. This is a jacket I’ve owned for years, and to my knowledge the color has never rubbed off before, so it was kind of confusing. I think the softness of the cork picked up on subtleties of the fabric, which says a lot for cork but not much for how I can clean the purse.
I think that the merchandise should come with care instructions (couldn’t find it on the website, either) so that customers know how to maintain their items over time. That plus the fact that the concept is so novel makes me wonder how long the merchandise will actually last. I’m optimistic based on my conversation with the sales rep, but need a bit more evidence to feel like I could fully recommend that people buy «everyday» items here. Right now, I’d suggest buying novelty, «every once in a while» items.
The store is really close to one of the main thoroughfares of the area, so it shouldn’t be hard to find in theory, but it took me a little bit of walking around Barrio Alto to get there.

A Cork & Co é uma pequena e simpática loja «só» com artigos de cortiça. Se acha que aquelas aspas estão a mais, então é melhor refletir duas vezes. É que apesar de a cortiça ser o material predominante, variedade é o que não falta na Cork & Co. Na verdade, ao longo de dois pisos, já pude vislumbrar diversas peças que tanto são funcionais como um hino à estética. Destaco as inevitáveis malas que, para delírio feminino, existem em vários modelos e numa panóplia de cores. Há outros acessórios que me chamaram a atenção, como umas simples, mas ao mesmo tempo sofisticadas, pulseiras. Mas fiquei mesmo muito surpreendido ao encontrar um guarda-​chuva e um candeeiro tão belos que provam que a criatividade dos designers nacionais continua a dar excelentes resultados!
Nunca se esqueça: ao adquirir produtos em cortiça está a tornar o seu dia-​a-​dia mais elegante e ecológico. Afinal, para quem não sabe, a cortiça é a casca extraída do sobreiro, sem contudo, prejudicar esta árvore.

Para além da matéria prima usada em todos os objectos da casa, adorei as peças de mobiliário que encontrei nesta loja. O design é fantástico na perfeição com a cortiça que compõe cada artigo. Não comprei nada… mas valeu bem a pena conhecer o espaço.

Um pequena lojinha no Bairro Alto, onde adoro ir ver todos os tipos de peças originais feitas em cortiça.
A única coisa que comprei nesta lojinha foi uma pequena malinha para oferecer a mãe do meu namorado nos anos, mas ainda estou para comprar uma para mim também.
Malas, carteiras, chapéus, pulseiras e colares de todas as formas e defeitos e até mobiliário, tudo feito em Portugal em material ecológico.
Adoro o design e a criatividade destas pecinhas, apesar de serem um pouco caras.
