We had«second» dinner here our first night in Lisboa. This place is cute quaint and super small so def make a reservation . We were one of 2 tables. We started our meals out with a round of capararinas and decided to share 3 things. The grilled prawns, bras and a sea bass with rice. They of course had the the traditional along with an assortment of olives and spreads. We ordered the obligatory bottle of vinho verde when our entrees arrived. My favorite dish was the rice with sea bream. The rice was cooked perfectly and the fish added a nice balance of flavor. We rounded out dinner with a shared dessert of baked apple. I was not a fan. The service was friendly and the feel of this place was very family friendly.

This place was fine. Although relatively small, it has a pleasant atmosphere. Service was great and friendly. The menu has plenty of options for vegetarians and carnivores. Although it advertises traditional Portuguese food, I am unsure if it backs up this claim. Certainly there are many cod-centric dishes, and I am no expert on exactly what Portuguese food entails, but it seemed like it was really just traditional cuisine that could be found anywhere(penne pastas, steaks with mashed potatoes, etc). That being said, the salad I had was superb with fat juicy tomatoes. One of my fellow eaters had the steak with peppercorn cream sauce which was delicious. The cod soufflé was good. It had a fishy flavor and a texture reminiscent of thanksgiving stuffing. Again, I am no expert on Portuguese cuisine. It is not cheap, but seems priced very similarly to other places in this neighborhood.

Sehr kleines Lokal in bairro alto.

I don’t get the overall 4.5 stars. The food was just mediocre and the service was slooooooow. I think it took 2 hrs from the time we ordered until the our entrée arrived. 45mins for the apps. Our entire meal was an unnecessary 3 hrs of which we spent majorly of it waiting… hungrily. It’s a cute lil restaurant that fits no more than 30 people in a in prime location among rustic cobblestone alleys and bars starting to fill up at around 11pm(they start really late here). Cool neighborhood. For the future, I’d randomly walk around and follow the locals for a chance at good food.

After aching feet from walking, and not wanting to go to one of those restaurants that has someone out in front haggling me for a meal, we came across this cozy place. Yes, I like the rustic homey feel, small restaurant, and there were actually a few couples in there. The menu seemed to have traditional portuguese dishes(which was what we were looking for) with decent prices(for europe) around 12 € to 16 € per dish. What caught my eye was the Peppered Beef with Mashed potatoes, Baked Octopus in olive oil and garlic sauce and the baked codfish. Everything was quite simple. We got the Bife Pimpente what was a thin steak, covered in a peppercorn cream sauce and a very creamy mashed potatoes. I got the baked octopus came with 4 small potatoes that were drenched in olive oil. Everything came out hot hot hot. \\ For dessert we got the Apples Assada ~apples stewed in cinnamon and port wine. It was super hot and steaming when it came out. It was interesting and very good, like a hot apple sauce. Everyone was really friendly. But my only caveat is that after walking down a little further, I saw two more restaurants that I would have eaten at, with the exact same stuff, but cheaper!

Visited Dec, 2013… Traditional in that we were seated and served drinks during dinner.“their” dinner(Many Portuguese restaurants close at 6 for staffs dinner)… After«their» dinner, 7pm, our order was served… some may find that a turn-off(to have to wait for the staff to relax and have dinner)…I liked it… they keep in real… Like you were a guest and you aren’t in America right now. Attention was perfect, Food was perfect. Loved the octopus, my wife loved the prawns… Music perfect /traditional Portuguese, volume perfect for conversation.

This restaurant was AMAZING. It’s cozy with dim-lighting and rustic style and the food is SOGOOD. It was some of the best food we had in Portugal. We happened to just come across it while going for a walk exploring, but it is worth finding for a really nice, intimate and casual food experience. The server was so friendly, too! it’s a good mix of traditional Portuguese dishes and some with a modern twist. It’s excellent qualitya nd service without the pretentious vibe of an upscale place. Love the food AND the atmosphere… would come back here again and would recommend to all my friends :)

Perfeito :)

This is a really good restaurant serving good Portuguese food served nicely and in a lovely atmosphere. This is a world away from many of the other restaurants in the area where there are touts trying to entice you in O Barrigas does not advertise itself unduly but we were welcomed in warmly and seated at a comfortable table. The restaurant was quite full despite being a cold Monday night in February. Service was attentive and patient the wine was good and the cover nibbles(pâté, sheep cheese, olive and bread) of a very good quality and served with port really great as an appertiser. Starters were generous and tasty, I really loved my octopus salad and my partner’s salad was also of the highest quality. For mains we had Jewfish and rice and octopus and rice. Both were prepared as dishes in the single pot tradition rather than as separate ingredients combined for serving. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. We could not manage any dessert! The cost was also very reasonable not cheap but far from expensive and good value for the quality. I would recommend you make the effort to seek this restaurant out it is well worth it.
