If you are lucky enough to be in Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel island in the Azores, don’t miss out on having a meal at the legendary Café Royal. This is the real Azorean deal. Since 1926, this unassuming café has been turning out tasty food at lights-​out prices. And not only is the service friendly, they provide you with the most condiments I’ve ever seen on the continent of Europe. From Piri Piri Sauce to extra-​virgin olive oil… from vinegar and mayonnaise to hot mustard and ketchup — did I forget the sea salt? — it’s all there for you. And my Portuguese beef topped with fried egg, and accompanied by salad and frites was totally a winning combination. Café Royal in the Azores … I’ll meet you for lunch or dinner there any time you want!

If you’re a tourist reading this, you should check out Café Royal. It’s authentic and has regular prices. And it’s safe because it’s across from a Police station. How safe!
Went back a few times for a breakfast order of eggs, steak, fries, and rice. It was extremely pleasant.
