Bar Moinho D. Quixote

I’ll start with the postive: great location and atmosphere. That’s it for the plus side. The menu was limited to items available in most casual restaurants anywhere in the US: burgers, salads, sandwiches, nachos, omelets, ice cream, etc., so no points for local cuisine. Very small terrace dining area. One side was full service and on the other side, patrons had to walk to the bar through the service area, order food and take it back to their tables. Both areas had no open tables, so I sat in a small room off the bar. The bar area was larger but very hot and noisy. Finding all this out took some doing as the wait staff was busy and not really interested in helping anyone who was not seated. There was no host or hostess. It did not take too long to get a menu or to place my order. I ordered a chicken and mushroom omelet. It came with a small salad. It took some time for the food to arrive, but since they were busy, that was reasonable. The chicken was over done and the salad was not memorable. When my waitress passed by on a rare occasion, I asked for a dessert menu. She brought it and disappeared… Twenty minutes later I flagged another waitress down and told her my other one disappeared. She apologized and took my order and brought it to me shortly. Twenty minutes passed again after I ate my dessert. I finally went to the bar and asked for my check. It was 15.75 and they only take cash. I gave her a 20. She had no change and asked me if I had any. I only had .62. She nicely said that was «okay» so the good news is I got out of there and saved .13 and left no tip. The bad news is it wasn’t worth 15.62. Too bad this place doesn’t have a menu, food preparation or service staff to match its wonderful location or atmosphere. What a waste. I’d hiked 9 km in 97 F weather today and was looking forward to a good meal after I had showered and changed for dinner. This was not it.

Existem lugares verdadeiramente especiais. E, para mim, um bocadinho de nada afastado de Lisboa, o Tesouro está ali. Ciente de que vou correr o risco de um dia ficar na fila tenho mesmo de partilhar… Conheci O Moinho D. Quixote num dia de aniversário. Uma surpresa que se repetiu hoje. Não é fácil de encontrar mas vale muito mais que um pôr-​do-​sol sob uma das belíssimas encostas de Sintra, e, caso se vá guiar a seguir, apetece um batido de frutas na varanda interior onde deambulam gatos malhados (que hão-​de ser propriedade da gerência) sociabilizando da almofada da cadeira ao nosso lado, em perfeita harmonia com a casa! Com uma capacidade para centenas de pessoas, interessante é o facto de que a distribuição das áreas permite que a multidão não se encontre, mantendo-​se a privacidade que nos leva a lá ir. A combinação perfeita para Dulcineias e todas as pessoas de bom gosto que gostam de espaços alternativos para ir ficando até a noite cair. Este até o considero particularmente bom para estudar com o horizonte relaxante ao fundo. A decoração é do outro mundo: gaiolas, estátuas de madeira e pedra, luzinhas, gravuras, pinturas, onde sobretudo predominam misturas fortes de cor. Em qualquer parte onde estejamos, a experiência é intimista. A música ambiente também se garante nas áreas externas. E que áreas externas! Um verdadeiro labirinto de plantas em ligeiros e espaços degraus. Ao fim do dia, lá fora as estrelas são bem visíveis porque a iluminação da serra é quase nenhuma. Além de não faltarem ofertas de comida rápida, com hamburgueres a partir dos 6 eur, sandes e diversas saladas; há também sangria e múltiplos cocktails mais sofisticados para experimentar por exemplo na varanda interior ou na sala central. O café custa 1,5 eur. Os batidos de fruta são excelentes a menos de 4 eur. Mas atenção que o pagamento é a dinheiro (não aceitam cartões). Esta estória encerra às 2h, mas garanto que fechamos o livro e continuamos a sonhar.

Die wohl westlichste Cocktailbar Europas, leckere Drinks und ein unwahrscheinlich toller Meeresblick sprechen für sich. Aufgrund der Exklusivität etwas teurer als vergleichbare Etablissements in der Gegend aber auf jeden Fall ein Muss hier zumindest einen Café zu trinken. Ich kann den Mojito empfehlen, steht grade vor mir ;) Schönen Urlaub!
