Trying to find a place to eat when you’re traveling with eight 20 somethings(one gluten free, one doesn’t eat pork or fish) can sometimes present some interesting challenges. That being said, we landed at 11 on a Sunday morning in June, and was told by our VRBO renter that we should go here since once you go, you’ll want to come back. We walked in and were told that there were big tables upstairs that were available. Unfortunately upstairs isn’t air conditioned, and we had been awake for many hours, and walked to the restaurant, so we really could have used some AC, but I’m sure it’s lovely in the evening, or if you’re used to the heat/humidity. We were given chips, but ordered the trio of guacamole, salsa and beans($ 4.50) for more dipping options, it’s not a lot of any of them, but enough for a few people to sample. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the drinks we got, but it wasn’t a margarita, and I think there was tamarind in it? Again, I’m not sure, but whatever it was, it was delicious, and refreshing, and we each got 2. The menu isn’t huge, but large enough that most of us got different items. I went with a lengua(beef tongue) taco and an al pastor taco. Both were very tasty and fresh, my favorite was the al pastor which was served with juicy pineapple(I only want tacos with pineapple from now on). Honestly, I feel that I’ve had tacos that are just as good and authentic at restaurants near my home in Massachusetts, so I wasn’t disappointed by Acapulco Taqueria Mexicana, but I wasn’t thrilled by it either. We all enjoyed our meal, but didn’t feel the need to make it a repeat destination during the week that we spent in San Juan.

First experience. It was great. Great tacos, great service. Very attentive personnel. Had the Cochinita Pibil and they were very tasty. Very authentic Mexican. The Margarita was very good. The upstairs has more seating and a terrace. Highly recommended. Will definitely visit again.

This place is legit. Large delicious tacos with good salsas. Definitely get the charred jalapeño on the side.

A must have while in San Juan! The Tacos Al Pastor, michelada, margarita, Pico de Gallo and guacamole that I had were all absolutely great! The servers are also very quick. Only downfall is local parking but totally worth the walk. Please please please try this while in town! Literally everything is homemade including the tortillas and chips.

Excellent option if you want Mexican, but also just a nice lunch option in general. Cocktails and fresh juices(the pineapple!), really lively downstairs, friendly service, excellent tacos and ceviche, and even better tres-leches(a tiny serving, but perfect for two people already stuffed from the food-food). No Tex-Mex here, as they proudly declare on their chalk board. And no burritos. I’m not sure what they’ve got against burritos, but it’s fine – the tacos are swell. They’ve got a very nice-looking brunch menu here on weekends. I wasn’t around to try it but it’s on my list for next time I’m in the neighborhood.

Absolutely amazing! I tried the chicken tacos, al pastor, fish tacos, and carnitas. Just fantastic. The meat was very well flavored and season, you didn’t actually need any of the sauces they provide for the tacos, because they’re just great by themselves. It’s a small place with seating upstairs on the patio. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I went back two days in a row and brought friends! I am definitely coming back whenever I come to San Juan again and recommending this place to everyone!

Perhaps it’s because I’m from California, but I did not find this place’s food as amazing as the other reviewers. However, atmosphere is lovely. Margaritas are also lovely. Normally, I’d give this 3 stars but in comparison to other restaurants in San Juan, this one definitely stands out.

Great service, amazing chips and guacamole, and even better veggie tacos. If you go here(which you definitely should) then get the tres leches. The only downside is that they close so early, but they make up for that with their amazing food. Totally reccommend.

Delicious, authentic, and amazing taco spot down in the Ocean Park neighborhood of San Juan. We came here for lunch on Thursday and got a table upstairs, near the bar area. Our waiter was an extremely nice guy and very patient with our group. He gave us many chips and different types of house sauces(all of which were tasty) to keep us satisfied until we got our food. He walked through the specials, which sounded amazing, and a few of my friends ordered some of them(he let me know which ones could be turned vegetarian). I got the house margarita and asked for it to be spicy, and it was refreshing. The spices in the drink and on the rim of the glass were perfect, and different than the spices we get in the states. All the drinks we ordered were on point. My friend and I were the only two vegetarians, and here’s what we ordered: Veggie Sopas(special) — this was fantastic! There were two corn mesas on a bed of creamy black beans. Topped on the corn mesas were a mix of different veggies(asparagus, peppers, mushrooms, radish) drizzled with sour cream and cheese. I added some of the sauces on it, but even without it, this was super tasty and the flavors were fresh. Veggie Tostada — this was filling! There was a nicely fried tostada shell on a bed of the same creamy black beans, topped with veggies(avocado, grilled onions and peppers, mushrooms, radishes, cilantro), with sour cream and cheese drizzled on top. Again, super flavorful. My friends loved their dishes, including the tacos — al pastor, steak, and pulled pork. I’d recommend this place to anyone visiting San Juan.

Simply fantastic. The best tacos I think I’ve ever had. We tried the al pastor, barbacoa, and cochinita tacos. The cochinita were our favorite. This was our first time but we will be back anytime we are thinking tacos. Add to that, our service was prompt and polite, which is a rarity in Puerto Rico. Just go and let me know how the dessert is because we ate so many tacos we didn’t have room left.

Excellent taco shop with a little outdoor section upstairs. They had the best margaritas and the al pastor tacos were crazy good. Definately going to come back here on our next trip to PR.

Amazing! Alessandro has an amazing thing going! We consider ourselves taco connoisseurs and these do NOT disappoint! Save room for dessert. You’re going to need one of each… particularly the key lime pie! Everything is made in-house and is OUTSTANDING!

On a very recent vacation(last week) this was the first place we tried out and I must say I was overall impressed. First with the bad(lost star): 1. We arrived early afternoon and there was clearly a lunch rush in full swing. Upon entering we were unsure on how to be seated(the entrance is pretty narrow and there were a couple of people ahead of us). Soon the sign in book because clear in sight and we signed our name for a table. Wait was short(5 – 10 minutes) and we were given an option of seating. 2. Once seated it took a while to order. GREATSTUFF(4 stars): 1. THEVEGGIETACO 2. THEVEGGIETACO 3. THEVEGGIETACO … Vegetarians and vegans unite and take this trip to Acapulco. Yes, vegans too. when I ordered the taco they asked if I preferred my meal cooked on a non-meat grill. But honestly. as a native New Yorker … growing up steps from East Harlem and steps from Bushwick taco trucks, as well as a plethora of taco spots throughout the city(I clearly love tacos)… THISWASTHEBESTVEGGIE/VEGAN TACO I HAVEEVERHAD! 4. Drinks: in my opinion a bit pricey for where we were in PR but very well mixed and tasty. 5. Staff: Super friendly and when you could get their attention, attentive to your needs. Digest: When I return to PR, I will return to Acapulco!

First time I liked Mexican food. Never really liked Mexican food here. Once I tried this place out. I was in love! The meat was so fresh and flavorful. We got chicken, beef, and cow tongue. The meat was tender and burst in flavors. The service was so good. Everyone was so chill and nice. We came here to grab lunch before we head back to the states.

This place is totally amazing. We went for brunch. The chilaquiles and tacos were absolutely delicious. The staff was so accommodating as we came in with a 1 year old. Definitely try it out if you’re up for making a trip to a non-tourist destination. Also try the michelada and horchata!

All of the 5* reviews on Unilocal don’t lie! This place is slamming. The most delicious tacos I have ever eaten! Fresh, tasty ingredients accompanied by the most delicious smoky salsa and chips. The sangria was so refreshingly delicious I had to have 3. Great music, attentive and friendly staff and an amazing atmosphere. Go to Acapulco and go now!

In a word, dope. From their proud not-to-serve board, to their pork and pineapple roasting on a spit behind the concrete and corrugated steel bar, This place is legit. More than authentic, the food is incredibly delicious! If that wasn’t enough(even though for me it is) the staff clearly enjoy their jobs! The taco chef handles the tongs and spatula with the finesse of a skilled hibachi guy(which I strongly suspect he might be). He threw in a few behind the back tosses… And no one’s watching! Ok, I admit it, maybe I was watching a little. I couldn’t help it. The servers are SUPER friendly and their English is perfect. I came to PR expecting to use a lot of Spanish,(not only here, most places on the island as a matter of fact) but they won’t let me! If they have the pork belly taco, I highly recommend it, although you literally cannot go wrong with any taco order. I also love the guacamole and queso fundido. I’m not to easily impressed, coming from a city famous for great Mexican food but this just may be my new favorite joint!

Highly recommended. There isn’t a lot of room inside, so go in small groups, but go. The service is friendly, the restaurant is clean with a laid back ambiance, and the food is amazing! They pride themselves on making everything fresh, and on serving authentic Mexican street tacos, and they absolutely nailed it. I especially liked the tacos al pastor and the guacamole, but I don’t think you can go wrong here.

Five stars. Ceviche tostadas were the bomb. Tacos al pastor the best. Small place but worth the drive. Margaritas to die for. I have been to many Mexicans restaurants in PR but this one does it right. Born and raised in San Francisco this location is a must if you crave good tacos. No rice plates no refried beans just great tacos. I hope they never change the menu.

We love this place… The food is delicious and the people are so nice here… The portions are great, enough to make you have dessert afterwards… a couple of more days in Puerto Rico and you know I will be back…

Really fast service, which was surprising given that its Puerto Rico and the place was packed. Tasted authentically Mexican, and not fusion. Prices were reasonable and I’d probably go there again!
