Very good place I got the appetizer tuna tataki it was amazing a way bigger portion than I have ever received back in the states. Service was good very clean no one ever told us about this place we just happen to walk by it and loved its just a five minute walk from our hotel caribe Hilton highly recommended!

If you’re done eating rice and beans and pork chops in San Juan, check out this tiny place close to the Caribe Hilton Hotel. Prices are reasonable for the area, service is pretty good and its a clean venue. Nothing fancy. :) Small selection of beers and wines(plum wine and sake available!) along with the standard soft drinks and juices. Sushi is fresh and tasty! I’d recommend the Rock n Roll. There are also some Chinese and Japanese dishes on the menu.

This place is dirty. Poor service. They gave us a order sheet previously used! Then there aren’t any descriptions of rolls or other items on the menu. The server had no clue what was in any of the rolls. Was almost rude in her behavior.

It’s OK but not great sushi at prices that are 20−30% above anything you’d encounter on the mainland. They have a weird habit of locking the door so that you pull on it unsuccessfully and then they come over to let you in. I saw no benefit to this but every customer went through the same motions. The sushi had the proper flavor, was fresh, etc. but was poorly rolled. I had trouble even picking it up without losing half the rice. Still, it’s cheaper and better than anything in the Hilton so keep it in mind.

As others mentioned this is a nice hidden gem just outside the Hilton. Our group split our preference between the Chinese and sushi. The Chinese seemed of slightly better quality than the sushi, though the sushi was perfectly fine as well. I wouldn’t describe any of the sushi as the best of any I’ve had in my life, though personally I’m on the west coast and experience great sushi there. The Chinese seemed of great quality and what little I tried off others plates seemed good.

The lunch specials(Mon-Sat only) were nicely priced — 8.50÷8.75 for a smallish main with white or fried rice and spring roll — and the taste was good. Minor complaint though, my Szechuan chicken was not in the least bit spicy. Food-wise, then, this is a good option if you’re staying at the Caribe Hilton and want to grab something to eat without getting ripped off at an on-hotel restaurant. Unfortunately you won’t escape being ripped off completely if you order drinks too. We got two juices for the kids which totalled $ 7(probably $ 2 worth at the supermarket. Add in $ 9 for two bottles of Medalla and the bill for lunch came in a lot higher than I was expecting.

From the outside, this restaurant seemed to be an improbable destination — it looked okay, but it was in a somewhat odd location. Then we read favorable reviews on Unilocal and decided to try it, as an option to the rather bland and over-priced restaurants at Caribe Hilton. We were very happy with our chicken with mixed veggies and our sushi. The prices were right. The ambience is very pleasant. The staff was very attentive. We will return before the end of our vacation.

I reviewed the old location(when it was called Nikko) and finally had a chance to come see the new location. Dined here early(6 pm) on a Monday evening. It was pretty quiet, only one other family with kids came in. The restaurant was clean and inviting, and clearly a better location than where they used to be(but I admit I miss them being walking distance from my mom’s place!) Between my mom and I, both small eaters, we ate: *Spicy Crab salad = excellent, but note that I REALLY have a thing for spicy mayo *Mango Tuna salad = totally yummy! The mango and avocado were perfectly ripe *Sushi Pizza with Crab = very good. I should’ve ordered it spicy, I completely forgot. The regular mayo just isn’t as awesome. But I this place still has the best sushi pizza I’ve tried. The crust is never too thick. *Yellowtail roll = quite possibly the best negi hamachi I’ve ever had. Honestly, I didn’t even know yellowtail could be so yummy! *Spicy scallop sashimi = meh. Usually I like them, but this time some of them were unnaturally cold in the middle, like they’d just been thawed out or something, which is not a good sign *Unagi sashimi = delicious Service was attentive & friendly.

My wife, daughter and I went there for lunch on March 29th. After reading some of the other reviews we had great expectations, but it was a disaster! The server was slow and outright hostile, and the food took forever. I ordered a salmon plate and by the time it came back is what raw in the inside while burnt on the outside. My daughter and my wife had sushi(spicy salmon, philly, tuna and ocean rolls), which was average. And we paid $ 86 dollars and just drank water(which upset the already hostile server). Overall, it is a great disappointment. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Excellent option for good food right outside of the hotel. There is no reason to overpay for the food at the Hilton when you can walk one block to this little gem. We had a couple rolls and noodles. Both were excellent. The fish is fresh, service was great and the place was very clean. Support this local establishment.

I agree with others here, what a little gem surrounded by tourist trappings. Yellowtail and salmon sashimi were just lovely, as was the wife who graciously serves. Don’t let«hole in the wall» aspect scare you away!

I am a Flight Attendant and prefer to find the local, hidden away gems that usually outshine the big name places. Ikura is one such place. My boyfriend and I escaped from the cold NY weather to the Caribe Hilton for a few days. We were shocked at the price of the food at the Caribe and the low quality. We asked the front desk personal about any«local» eateries. They suggest we try Ikura Bistro right around the corner. Best advice I’ve been given in years. It is clean, unassuming and very friendly. The staff appears to be the owner who makes the sushi, and his wife who waits on the tables . The first time we went was for lunch on day two of our three day trip. We both had Chinese options on the menu. I had Sezuchan Beef and WOW is all I can say. My boyfriends Orange Chicken was nothing short of superb. They were both simply prepared with first class ingredients(evident in the taste) accompanied by a perfect portion of soy sauce fried rice(not too salty either). The second and last night we were in San Juan, we decided to go back and try the Japanese sections. They were even better than the Chinese preparations. We started out with Miso soup and moved on to Tempura Shrimp, Pork Shumai and seaweed salad. The Miso was perfect with small dices of tofu and we both slurped it down. The Shumai was so fresh I even wonder if they made the wrapper themselves. I commented on it more then once. Perfect, Just perfect. The seaweed salad was fresh with the right amount of sesame seeds and oil. Not overdone and brilliantly green, just the way I like it. The Tempura Shrimp was pretty typical Tempura and what you would expect except for the sauce they served with it, wich was light and sweet and very VERY homemade. We then moved on to our Sushi. We had three pieces of Salmon and two pieces of Tuna sushi. They were wonderful. The right amount of rice, not overwhelming, and slightly colder then room temperature. We had a selection of rolls that came next. We ordered a Spider Roll, a California Roll, a Avocado Roll and a Spicy Tuna roll. California and Avocado rolls can be hideous if the ingredients are not fresh. These were wonderful. The Spider roll is usually what I judge a good Sushi Restaurant by. The taste, texture and the ease in eating it.(If you’ve never had one, it is a deep fried soft shell crab cut up and served as a sushi roll.) This was one of the best Spider Rolls I have ever had. The portion was perfect. The Crab was perfectly cooked. It was cut and presented in a way that was easy to eat and the flavor was delicious. The Spicy Tuna roll can be very bad if it is made with too much mayonnaise. This roll was chopped spiced tuna barely held together with mayonnaise so you got the heat and the tuna flavor without the overwhelming sticky mayo. I must give a special nod to the Wasabi. Most places use a burn your sinuses off, melt you face Wasabi that has you gasping for air and starting to sweat. I love it as much as the next guy, but there is nothing and I mean nothing like fresh made wasabi straight from a wasabi root which is what they serve at Ikura. Don’t expect that super hot horseradish burn but prepare yourself for a different softer taste that you can enjoy a lot more of. For Desert, My boyfriend had Tempura Ice Cream and I tried the Tempura cheesecake. I did not try his as I was to enraptured by the texture and flavor of this crispy cheesecake, but I trust him when he said it was very good. Overall, for the food we had listed in this review, the cost was less then a couple of burgers and 4 drinks poolside at the Caribe Hilton. So if your in the area, I HIGHLYHIGHLY suggest giving Ikura Bistro a try… you won’t be disappointed.

Surprisingly pretty good Asian food — sushi, various Chinese stir fry, and the usual rice and noodle dishes. I particularly like the szechuan phoenix dish.

This little place is GREAT! We were staying at Caribe Hilton and walked over to grab a bit to eat outside of the resort. Sushi is fresh and service was awesome. Small mom and pop restaurant with lots of regulars. Highly recommend it!
