Arc de Triomf

This was surprisingly not on the radar during my research for the Barcelona weekend! It’s not really on many of the «to-​do» lists you can find around the internet. I think it’s worth a visit, even if only due to it’s location right next to Ciutadella. There were many people milling around and a Michael Jackson street performer to admire. Cute scene! Just something to admire while passing by.

Por donde se vea el Arco del Triunfo es impresionante. Está justo a la salida de la estación del metro y es el comienzo de una caminería larga hasta la entrada del Parque de la Ciudadela.

Wasn’t on our agenda but when we saw a sign for it we said, «Why not».
The walk over was pretty nice, regardless of my ever growing blisters. The Arc itself… It’s gorgeous. Towering and impressive — great for a couple of photos. But… that’s about it. The «park» (mainly a runway leading up to the arc) around it is vast… but mainly empty. There’s a couple of places to sit under trees where birds will FOR SURE poop on you.
The arc was built in 1888 for the Barcelona World Fair. I’m always impressed with super old structures. How did they build this thing so long ago without modern technology? It’s amazing.
We didn’t spend much time here. Got our photos… sat down in a poop free zone and then headed off to the next location.

Arco de triunfo realizado en honor a la exposición universal de Barcelona de 1888.

It’s not out of the way or anything and is perfectly free. Its vibrant red colors seem to match the Barcelona theme. It reminds me more of a Babylonian city gate than anything else. Since it is along a busy promenade and park, you’ll stumble upon the area probably without trying.

Un de mes endroits préféré de Barcelone… désolée mais je préfère celui-​ci que celui de Paris !!
Déjà c’est un des endroits où je sais aller toute seule et ça j’en suis pas peu fière.
Je trouve que l’agencement de la place qui l’entoure est très bien pensée et qui plus est ce côté «plage» avec les palmiers est juste génial.
Le coin est super animé. On peut s’assoir juste en face pour admirer l’arc mais aussi l’ambiance des rues. Le quartier est également des plus agréable car mon parc préféré est juste à côté… On peut même y faire une promenade sur l’eau !

He de reconocer que hasta hace no mucho, desconocíà la existencia de este monumento, había estado hacía años en Barcelona pero había visto otros lugares más céntricos y en otros barrios. La verdad es que en persona gana mucho respecto a fotografías, y el paseo que llega hasta él con las farolas con su articular diseño, es muy atractivo. Enfrente del Parque de la Ciutadella.

this historical site was built as a gate for barcelona’s world fair in 1888. it was built in the neo-​mudejar style by josep vilaseca i casanovas, a catalan architect. currently, the arch overlooks pg de lluis companys, which is a promenade that leads to parc de la ciutadella.
i’ve seen the arc de triomphe in paris, and to be honest, this arc in barcelona cannot compare. however, i did appreciate that this site is free and open to the public and one can come and take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy some leisurely time here. there are also some historical facts at the front of the arch so that you can read up on the history of this monument.
the arc do triomf metro station is just steps away from this landmark.

The Arc de Triomf is located near a metro and a large beautiful park. Take a stroll down the avenue, drink a bear and take a break lying on the grass while you enjoy the Arc.
Not that crowded

A mi personalmente este monumento me parece impresionante y muy bonito. Yo estuve dos años viviendo en Paris y allá tienen también arco del triunfo. De hecho tienen dos, y son bonitos también. Pero yo que soy muy de Barcelona este me gusta mucho.
Los arcos del triunfo casi siempre (por no decir siempre, que tampoco sé tanto) han tenido un motivo de construcción esencialmente militar. Bien, pues Barcelona para llevar la contraria, lo creó por un motivo mucho más civil: marcado por un progreso artístico y económico. El arco se erigió como entrada a la exposición universal del 1888. Seguido por un paseo (Lluis Companys) que llevaba a la Ciudadela. A mi no me extraña que me guste tanto, yo creo que supieron transmitir bien el aire y amplitud de la ciudad.
Me encanta pasear por allí sobretodo en Primavera. Y más de una vez he entrado en el parque y me he tumbado como quien va a meditar. Es verdad que a menudo hay bastante gente, sobretodo también turistas, pero siempre, a alguna hora determinada del día, puedes encontrar espacios.
Y pensar que antes la Ciudadela fue una fortaleza para mantener a la ciudad de Barcelona dominada… En fin, que los años pasan y las ciudades se transforman y todo puede convertirse en algo bonito, pero yo a veces lo pienso y digo: madre mía!!! el pasar de los años lo que hace.
No dejéis de pasear por allí!!! espacio, luz y grandeza van de la mano! ;)

It’s a pretty arc, but that’s it. 2-​minute photo op max. Been there. Done that!

Arco como le suelen llamar los barceloneses es otro lugar histórico de Barcelona city a solo 3 mimutos andando a pleno centro y 10 min de la playa con buena ubicacion de buses, metro, tren, tram… en el que hay que destacar su afluencia de personas diarias y la cercania del pulmón de Barcelona como el parc de la ciutadella

It is part of the large major park that has concerts there. Recently after Primavera as a post showcase they had the Dum Dum Girls play. In the daytime it is a nice scenic walk where you can sit and have lunch. My best friend and I did this a few times on our trip. At night on the weekends all the patios and shops come out and it has a whole new night life of it’s own. short walk from the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Picasso Museum.

This is free to see and it’s beautiful.
What more can you ask for or complain about!!! :)

A big city like Barcelona needs an Arc like Paris. Somehow, the Paris Arc de Triomphe seems like a bigger deal and more original. New York seemed to copy it. This arc is nice to visit. It is located at a big open plaza which is nice to hang out at if you are sightseeing in Barcelona. It looks different from the Arc in Paris. It’s red instead of gray.

What I’ve noticed is that most (major) cities in Europe and in NYC have some sort of Arc. Barcelona is no different and this Arc de Triomf is a nice photo op to add photos for any trip! This was a little smaller than I expected, but it is still beautiful.
Unlike the Arc De Triomphe in Paris, you cannot climb to the top of this one in Barcelona. It was also a short walk away from the beautiful Parc De La Ciutadella and also the Picasso Museum. This is definitely a quick and free attraction. This will only take a few minutes but it is definitely worth it if you are in the area!

Arc de Triomf lugar emblemático de la ciudad de Barcelona donde es un punto de encuentro para muchos barceloneses y turistas. En San Juan se hacen proyecciones, algunos domingos se organizan ferias artesanas, para la fiesta mayor de la ciudad (Festes de La Mercè) también organizan conciertos entre otras actividades.

L’Arc de Triomf es un bonito lugar para dar un paseo y acabar en el parc de la Ciutadella, ahora que viene el buen tiempo, apetece sentarse en una terracita cercana mientras vas haciendo apuestas sobre si un skater se cae o le mete con el patín a alguien.
Algunas veces, dependiendo de la temporada, provechan el paseo desde el Arco hasta la Ciutadella para poner paradetas y/​u organizan eventos como el NBA 3×3, alguna feria de vino, etc.

I feel like every major European City will have an Arc de Triomf of some sort, you see it in Paris and Rome for example. The Arc de Triomf is simple, a good background for some good pictures and there are some parks that come off of it. I only swung by to take some pictures, so I didn’t go into the park or the zoo that’s close by. If you’re walking to the Sacred Family church, you might see it on you’re way, so you can kill 2 birds with one stone on your way there or back! Won’t take you more than 10 – 15 min to do and it’s free

Not as impressive as the one in Paris and really not much to do here but look at it. It is a massive structure and provides pretty backdrops. The arc is a nice entrance or exit to the park if you are making your way in the area.
Good: Impressive view you don’t back home; free;
Bad: Not worth more than a 10 minute stop and photo-​op

L’Arc del Triomf (arco del triunfo en castellano), un clásico que comparten otras ciudades europeas, lleva en pie desde 1988 y constituye uno de los puntos turísticos más visitados de la ciudad. La verdad es que es bonito y majestuoso, y en su día representó la entrada para la feria que lo inauguró. Está situado en un amplio paseo cercano al Parque de la Ciudadela, al zoo y a la zona comercial del Born. Es un buen lugar donde pasear, patinar o salir a correr, pero como en todas las zonas turísticas, tener cuidado con las carteras y los bolsos. El metro te deja justo al lado así que es muy rápido acercarte y además queda cerca de un montón de cosas para ver (el puerto olímpico, el Born, el parque de la Ciudadela…)

Arcs in general are cool, but I just flew in from Paris and saw the Arc de Triumph so it wasn’t as awesome. Nice bike path next to this one though.

El Arc de triomf es un lugar muy transitado en el que hay mucha afluencia de turistas. Fue construido para la exposición universal del año 1888 donde este era la puerta de entrada a la feria.
Se ha puesto muy de moda el patinaje por esa zona y las tipicas fotos aguantando el
Arco, de vez en cuando se hacen eventos de todo tipo.

Dope arc which apparently looks like the one in France. Lots of young kids and locals gathered here hanging out, skateboarding, dancing, singing, smoking, drinking, etc. Great place for a photo and good as a rendevous point. You can also easily hop on the bike share here and trek it over to the other sites or awesome nearby neighborhoods.

Triumpfbogen mitten in Barcelona, eigentlich erwartet man sowas nur in Paris. Schön anzusehen, für mich könnte das drum herum noch etwas mehr aufgemacht werden, damit dieser noch mehr zur Geltung kommt.

Impressive arc… similar replica to the one in Paris. Love the walkway leading up to it. The arc itself is so intricate and beautiful.

En ce qui concerne l’arc de triumph. Sans plus, joli mais c’est tout, je préfère nettement celui de Paris bien évidemment ;)
Cependant, j’ai beaucoup apprécié l’arrière décor qui est une grande allée longée de palmiers (très sympa) en dessous desquels on trouve pas mal de places pour s’y installer et apprécier le temps! (bien meilleur que le temps parisien ce coup ci lol)
Sur cette même allée, des artistes y présentent leur spectacle ou œuvres
Un peu plus loin, il y a un beau parc (celui de la ciutadella) précédant le zoo de Barcelone :)

Ja genau, zur Weltausstellung wurde der Triumpfbogen errichtet :) Darf scheinbar in keiner großen Stadt mehr fehlen. Er ist noch sehr gut erhalten und sieht von beiden Seiten gleich aus. Haben wir natürlich auch fotografiert, auf unserem Weg zur Zitadelle. Von beiden Seiten ;-)

Un petit arc de triomphe intéressant
Cet arc de triomphe est à voir pour son architecture à l’entrée du parc. Il se remarque de loin… C’est l’endroit idéal pour commencer une promenade au parc.

es un sitio muy hermoso, casi siempre lleno de paradas de productos catalanes. en el dia de la diada de ctalunya vienen escritores a firmar sus libros.

Bonito monumento situado en la ciudad de Barcelona, está cerca del Zoo, por lo que puede pillar de paso en un paseo hasta él.

Not really as impressive or indeed famous as it’s Parisian namesake and I’m not entirely sure why a Triumph Arch was built in Barcelona anyway?
Still, this is a lovely end of town — much more peaceful and less in your face than Las Ramblas. The zoo is nearby and you’ll get to see a more truer picture of Barcelona in the surrounding streets than the more obvious tourist area’s. Wonderful street architecture and a superior boulevard, if you’re planning to visit the zoo or indeed Marina area then take in this area whilst there. Also check out the Palace of Justice which was one of the first buildings in the city to define Modernista architecture.

Built for an exposition in 1888, the Arc del Triomf differs from the famous arch of the same name in Paris by being (a) made of red bricks, (b) having more bizarre carved detail (bats?) and not being entirely encircled by roaring traffic.
It stands at one end of a broad pedestrian avenue that has impressive iron-​work light posts and imperssive buildings like the palace of justice.
Worth a look if you’re in the neighbourhood, but not worth a special trip.

Rien à voir avec celui de Paris !!! Mais cependant amusant de le voir. Quelques commerces autour, mais rien d’extraordinaire non plus.
Le musée du zoo se trouve pas très loin.

Dieser Triumphbogen wurde 1888 als Eingang zu der Weltausstellung in neu-​maurischem Stil aus rötlichen Ziegelsteinen erbaut. Er ist ca. 30 Meter hoch und stellt ein ideales Fotomotiv dar.
Von ihm aus (und anderen Stellen) gelangt man in den Parc de la Ciutadella, der damals die Weltaustellung beherbergte.

C’est vrai qu’il n’en jette pas des masses par rapport à Paris ou même celui de notre porte d’aix à Marseille ! Mais en allant au parc, jetez y un coup d’oeil !

L’arc du petit triomphe…
Après avoir vu celui de Paris… on dirait un petit pont. Né pas faire de détour rien que pour lui, l’ayant fait ça né vaut mais alors pas vraiment le coup !

Né vaut pas le déplacement
Le même qu’à Paris en plus petit. Né vaut pas le détour à moins de faire le parc de la Citadelle (juste à côté).

Sans grand intérêt
On peut inclure ce monument dans une visite du parc de la Ciutadella. Il né présente cependant pas beaucoup d’intérêt. Il y a tellement de belles choses à voir à Barcelone !!
