It would be pretty silly of me to expect fair prices in one of the beach front cafeterias along Playa America in the height of tourist season, right? Let’s face it, I’m getting robbed. I’d be less reluctant to open my wallet if I received super-attentive service and quality food. After a day of action at Playa America, enjoying the End-of-July feria, and taking too many spins in Saltamontes [1], my friend and I were super-hungry(and also in dire need of claritas [2]). Oriana and I were told by our waitress that she would be «right there.» 5 minutes later and nothing. After shouting«chica, chica» on the top of our lungs for about another two minutes, we finally got her attention. We placed our order for claritas, ham and cheese sandwiches, and a side of patatas fritas.(Corner Hut serves up «fast food» — which is fine after a day in the sun.) Thankfully, our food did not take long to arrive(I’d be concerned if it did considering nothing on the menu is extremely complex). But as my friend Oriana wisely observed, «Wow, the presentation at McDonalds is better than this… and McDonalds is half the price!» After toasting with our claritas, we each took a sip. Oriana and I had the same reactions simultaneously. Ugh! Did we order Kas Limon or claritas?! The two of us have been drinking a lot of these fine Kas Limon-beer concoctions this summer, and this particular drink probably ranks as one of the worst that I have tasted. Fortunately, the sandwich was edible(albeit a bit greasy) and the patatas fritas were crispy enough. But when it came time to high-tail it out of there, we were once again presented with a 10+ minute between the time we asked for the cheque and the time we received the cheque. Another five minutes to receive our change, and we were FINALLY off to secure some churros. [1] - Disclaimer: I don’t know these guys. [2] - But we prefer ours with Kas Limon.
