The worst of the good coffee places at Arlanda but that still means that it is vastly superior to most other options available. This is one of two branches of johan & nyström at Arlanda(they have one in Terminal 4 as well and the additional airport location in Helsinki as well as a city center location in both Stockholm and Helsinki). This location serves their own roasted coffee and a selection of sandwiches and pastries. The sandwiches and pastries are ok and since it is at an airport it is also overpriced. The coffee here is ok, they execution is a bit so so for the hand-brews and espressos but the batch brew is fine. While I wouldn’t visit a place like this if it was in the city center it is still a good option for an airport. The strange thing here is that it is before security so no chance of enjoying any good coffee after security in terminal 2.

Finally a chance to get great coffee at Arlanda, I thought. I’m used to the superb coffee and great service I’ve encountered at Johan & Nyström, both at Södermalm and in Helsinki so admittedly my expectations are high. The barista sits in a corner reading a book and it takes a bit before zie wakes up. I ask for a double cappuccino to go and I am genuinely disappointed when I drink it. It’s weak, and it tastes more like a diluted single latte. Perhaps both the barista and I had a bad day but this was definitely below par and what I’d expect from Johan & Nyström.

Well done typically Swedish interior — I love these! Beautifully tasting and freshly baked croissant. Include an okay cappuccino and there you are the pluses of making a stop over here. Though everything is unreasonably expensive which lowers the overal grade, as well as I think a barista could give more passion to the Coffee, which was correctly prepared bad not with the passion for every single cup.

I needed a sandwich. And a coffee. Really, really badly… needed both. I seriously couldn’t wait until reaching my hotel in the centre of Stockholm(almost an hour) — so I made a quick stop here at Johan & Nyström, was equipped swiftly with a small roast beef sandwich(with radish and kiwi!) and a nicely made cappuccino. The surrounding café tables and seating are quite nice, stylish and well decorated. In true Swedish form, it feels sophisticated and comfortable without being over the top or garish. Even the airport cafes have style, it’s true. If you are arriving from outside the Nordics, this is likely your first«sticker shock» moment — yes, everything is expensive. For this little snack it was nearly 20 euros. C’est la Sweden… *accepts cards. *free wifi at airport. *right outside T2 arrivals(good place to meet pre-arranged car as well) Sustained me on my long journey to my hotel… as nice as it gets for a quick snack in an airport.
