We spent about $ 60 on chocolate. While the chocolate was extremely delicious, it was definitely overpriced. But I don’t mind paying for the experience. The chocolatier was a short walk from our hotel and it had tons of different kind of options. It has been one of the best chocolates I’ve ever had.

When staying in Grindewald you can’t help but notice the Laderach chocolate shop as you walk to and fro. However, you also notice it is nearly always closed because shops in Grindewald close very early before or at 6pm. Nevertheless, on our last day in Grindewald we managed to stop by early in the morning before our train and picked up some chocolates. Laderach is a chain and you’ll find it all over Switzerland but not to the frequency of Lindt or Sprungli. After a taste test, I found Laderach chocolates, especially the ones that come in large crumble chunks to be pretty good. Better than Lindt but probably not quite as good as Sprungli(the Laduree of confectionary shops in Switzerland). The mix and match option is good but as you can see from photos, you barely put anything in the bag and you’re close to 15 francs already. I am not a chocolate fan by any means but I could tell this chocolate was well-crafted and you really get a sense for the deep flavor and texture of the chocolate rather than just milkiness. I like the crumble with nuts(with the Laderach logo painted on each piece) but the orange filled chocolate was not what I expected. Too soft and the orange flavor is slight. The presentation of the chocolate is a little lacking given the high price tag so if you want to bring something back that really impresses visually I would go with Lindt or Sprungli because their packaging just has more glitz. If you can’t make it out to those places then Laderach is another good option for more artisan chocolate but be prepared to pony up the francs because chocolate not just good chocolate is expensive in Switzerland! 3.5 overall for me.
