Topkapı Sarayı

a must see in Istanbul — since i was there during off season there was not a huge line!
definitely worth it to explore the grounds and look at the view of istanbul — the jewel exhibit and all the various exhibits are great!

Really interesting palace to see, especially, the fact that the «harem» which stands for forbidden is where the sultans mouther, wives and their servants used to live isolated from men and the sultan him self unless he comes for a visit. Defiantly, a must see if you are interested in knowing about the past sultans and the Ottoman Empire.

Impossible de visiter Istanbul sans aller visiter le Palais de Topkapi (Topkapı Sarayı), joyau de l’empire Ottoman. C’était la résidence officielle du sultan entre le XVème et le XIXème siècle.
Il est construit sur la pointe du sérail où se trouvait autrefois la citadelle (acropole) de Byzance. Né pas manquer de visiter le Harem (supplément par rapport au billet d’entrée au Palais). C’est le plus intéressant et surtout le plus beau à voir.
Le lieu est très vaste: portes, cours, jardins, terrasses en plus des différentes salles du palais. Mais il est aussi activement visité. Nous avons donc commencé par visiter en sens inverse de la plupart des visiteurs. Direction le Harem!
C’est un des lieux qui m’a le plus fasciné à Istanbul: c’est déjà immense et nous y avons passé des heures (or une grande partie n’est pas ouverte au public!). Mais je n’ai pas vu le temps passer.
Miroirs, dorures, somptueuses céramiques et faïences (#passioncarrelage bonjour!), peintures murales, portes en nacre, fontaines en marbre, dômes, couloirs et passages… Un endroit incroyable! Il né faut vraiment pas manquer de le visiter!
Le reste du palais est aussi très beau, se balader dans les jardins, kiosques, pavillons et terrasses est très agréable. Il y a plusieurs salles permettant d’observer des objets précieux ayant appartenu aux différents sultans (des pierres précieuses énormes et brillantes!).
Je me suis surprise à être ébahie par la salle des armes et armures (un des plus riches ensembles d’armes islamiques au monde se trouve ici), avec des pièces s’étalant sur une période de 1 300 ans, du VIIe au XXe siècle. Cette collection d’armes et armures est constituée d’objets d’origine ottomane, ou issus de conquêtes, ou encore reçus en cadeaux. j’ai observé de longues minutes une sorte de masse venant de Hongrie, qui avait du être taillée pour un géant! Fascinant!
On a passé ⁴⁄₅ heures je pense à l’intérieur de Topkapi mais cela valait le coup;
En sortant de là, on se retrouve tout à côté de Sainte-​Sophie et de la mosquée bleue.

We visited Topkapi in early June 2014, which turned out to be the perfect time. Ephesus had been rather hot, but Istanbul was much more pleasant. Maybe because it was raining…
Topkapi was such a source of delights just waiting to be discovered. .. We spent the morning there, when the weather was nice, so we could enjoy walking the grounds as well as seeing the museums. We saw The Armory and the Treasury, as I recall. They didn’t allow pictures in the Treasury, where all the loot was stored. I recall seeing a lot of gold, and some eye-​poppingly huge jewels and rare stones. I am always amazed at these collections. How could they live so extravagantly while the people were barely surviving? Talk about income inequality.
But I digress. I think secular Islamic art is beautiful. I fell in love with it at the Doris Duke estate in Hawaii. She was a huge fan! The mosaics in the Palace are stunning. Some more so than others, but they’re pretty old. The views from the Golden Horn and the Terrace near the café, out across the Bosphorus was amazing! Funny, but I don’t remember the harem.

Came for the public section only…
This is one of the must-​visit places when in Istanbul… at least if it’s your first time. It is a pretty big area with lots of green and gardens.
Since we didn’t have time all day we just roamed around the public area. But that was alread a nice thing to do. The gates leading you inside are massive and impressive. And the Gate of Salutation is even bigger… right out of a fairy tale.
To visit the actual palace you’ll have to pay… and a bit more if you’re interested in seeing the Harem. The garden /​courtyard is lovely done… be sure to arrive in the morning. A lot less people… they all arrive around 11 – 12. And then it’s packed.
In the souvenir shop you can dress up for a souvenir picture if you like these kinda things. There’s also a bathroom… be sure to go before you leave.

I guess this is a must see due to the fact of its importance in Turkish History. I went in the last week of Sept 2015, and it was still REALLY crowded. It would be worth it to be there in line waiting before it opened, as there were so many there that the experience wasnt that good that day. If your early in head way back to the right to get into the main living area as that was by far the longest line.

If you buy the Museum pass, it is a 5 day pass for 85 Turkish Lira. I did not pay extra for the Harem, and I dont think others did as there was no extra ticket taker there, just if you were willing to wait in that line too, they let you through.
As for the museum pass, it might be worth it to some, but it didnt come, at least for me, with any guide, list or anything, they just handed me the card. SO I had to go online to look up what all it covered. The big ticket items were the Haga Sofica and Topkapi Palace which were 30 TL each. So for 25 extra you can do all the rest! Problem is many of the rest are far out and the average person would not find them. At least 4 o them are not near any metro. I went by bus to some, then walked from there a good distance. It isnt easy! Currently the Haga Sophia and Korma Museum are undergoing renovations too which makes the experience less than optimal, so one might opt to just pay for tickets rather than get the musem pass that you wont use much of.
The line to get into the main feature, the living areas was so long I opted to just give up and so did others. The line went on and on forever. Unless your totally into Turkish history the average tourist will loose interest when one has to go through this, especially when the heat and sun are hot. You wait to get into the place, and then you wait again to go into every section.
Make sure you walk to the very back of the complex to get a view over the water and you can see the ancient walls down at the bottom of the hill. I dont know how often it is done but they have a group of men dressed in period attire, some with fake mustache, parade through the main grounds and the front gate. It goes by quick so have camera ready if you see them clearing people for a space or hear the sounds coming.

Este palacio es una delas principales atracciones turísticas de Estambul y sin duda, su fama es totalmente merecida (salvo por un par de salas que indicaré más abajo).
Al ser una de las principales atracciones de la ciudad, su visita está incluida en prácticamente todo los viajes y circuitos organizados que pasan por la ciudad por lo que te recomiendo madrugar y tratar de adelantar a todos los grupos. AH! Y recuerda que la visita está incluida dentro de la tarjeta de Estambul así que si la tienes (si no píllala en las máquinas de fuera), te puedes saltar una gran parte de la cola.
Cuando yo fui, empezamos la visita por la iglesia de Santa Irene que se sitúa dentro de los jardines del palacio y que está bastante deteriorada. Hoy en día se utiliza como sala de conciertos y desgraciadamente, se ve que ha sido invadida por las palomas porque hay marcas suyas por todas partes.
Tras salir de la iglesia nos dirigimos al palacio propiamente dicho y decidimos entrar por una de las partes más famosas de éste y que personalmente creo que más merecen la pena: el harén. Hoy en día se conservan muchas salas del harén ricamente decoradas al estilo árabe que contienen hasta fuentes interiores. Creo que la belleza de ese lugar, antiguamente habitado por las mujeres del sultán vigiladas por eneunucos, es totalmente indescriptible y hace falta verlo para comprenderlo. A mí me encantó!
Después de esta zona pasamos al Pabellón de Bagdad y su alrededor, otro de los enclaves de más belleza de este conjunto monumental y otro de los que más me gustó. Este quizás, me recordaba un poco a la Alhambra de Granada.
Además de estas salas, también tienen mucha afluencia de público las llamadas salas del tesoro. Estas a mí no me gustaron mucho ya que incluían muchas joyas parecidas a lo que se puede encontrar en otros sitios y reliquias del mundo árabe.
Por último, también se pueden visitar la zona de las cocinas y almacenes donde hoy en día se muestran una serie de objetos de la vida cotidiana de distintas épocas (sobre todo vajillas y similares).
Sin duda es una de las visitas estrellas de la ciudad aunque recomiendo reservarle tiempo ya que la visita se puede alargar perfectamente unas 3 horas como mínimo.

First, know that I visited here at a horrible time. I visited in August (one of the busiest months), it was steamy hot and I visited on a Monday (Hagia Sophia is closed, so many of the tourists visit here, instead). Further, parts of Topkapi are under reconstruction (Harem) and the lines were ridiculously long to go into the Imperial Treasury & Hall of Holy Relics (so we skipped those areas).
However, its still incredible. It was the home of the Ottoman sultans for 400 years.
Good to know:
Cost: 25TL. I was annoyed that it was an additional 15TL to go into the Harem. Why not just charge one price for it all?

Must See:
The Harem. The incredible tile work & craftsmanship throughout the 20 private apartments of the Sultan, sultan’s mother, wive’s & concubine. I have never seen so many varied tiles in my life.
I would love to go back during non-​busy season to really explore.

A must see in Istanbul. Be prepared for long lines in the sun. The day we came some exhibits were closed which was a bummer. Tile work was amazing. Worth the visit!

El Palacio es un lugar hermoso, pero tampoco la locura.
Llegamos y sacamos las entradas. Se puede sacar sólo para el palacio, o para palacio y Harem. No se puede sólo Harem. Nos habían dicho que el Harem era la parte más linda. Sacamos las dos. 30TL (ARS150) para el palacio, otras 15TL (ARS75) para el Harem, y otras 20TL (ARS100) si querías visitar Hagia Irene, cosa que no hicimos.
El museo del palacio es lindísimo, apunta a mostrar como vivian los sultanes, las costumbres de la época y los objetos cotidianos, como joyas, armas, ropa, arte, etc. Súper interesante. Sin embargo, es una atracción súper popular entre los turistas, por lo que esperen hacer colas larguísimas para entrar a cada parte de la exhibición. Realmente cansador, debido a que los objetos están separados en varios grupos no demasiado grandes que no valían la pena tanta espera. Visitamos sólo algunas cosas.
Si están acompañados y quieren ahorrarse un poco de tiempo, túrnense para hacer la fila. De todas maneras la visita toma unas 2 – 3 horas.
El Harem es sin duda el lugar más lindo del palacio. Contrario a lo que yo pensaba, no era el lugar donde vivían las mujeres, sino que ahí vivía el sultán también. Se pueden visitar las salas íntimas y las habitaciones, entre otras cosas, todo con un excelente estado de conservación.
Otra cosa que me gustó mucho del palacio fueron los jardines, muy muy cuidados y con muchas flores con unos colores increíbles.
Sin duda vale la pena la visita, pero si no tienen ganas de gastar tanto dinero, pueden tranquilamente no hacerla.

Le Musée Topkapi ou le Palais Topkapi, peu importe le nom, est un immense lieu où ont résidé pendant des siècles les sultans turcs ottomans. Pour le visiter il faut comme la plupart des bâtiments historiques d’Istanbul payer 30TL soit environ 10 € !
Le Palais Topkapi s’articule autour de différents jardins, salles, musées où sont conservés des objets bijoux, objets anciens etc. Personnellement, ce né fut pas l’une de mes visites préférées à Istanbul, on paye pour admirer la richesse des sultans qui y ont vécu, certes c’est beau, magnifique, mais je m’attendais à quelque chose en plus que des salles quasiment vides ornées d’or et de mosaïques.
Cela reste un lieu incontournable d’Istanbul où vous avez une belle vue sur le Bosphore.

This by far has been my favorite of the museums I’ve visited so far. The grounds are vast so I would allow at least 3 hours to properly explore.
Visited in the late afternoon and arrived at 3pm after stopping at the Archaeology Museum. It’s just incredible what the offerings are, the rooms, and it would be cooler yet if they were furnished.
Of course I couldn’t leave without visiting the Circumcision Room/​Summer Court (what an odd combination) that has exquisite tile work. That reminds me the tile work here allows you to get up close and personal for viewing unlike Aya Sofia that is rather closed off.
If you are going you should also plan to visit the Harem. The bed is a truly impressive size (as it should be)

À voir lors de votre voyage à Istanbul. Le palais en lui-​même n’est pas d’une beauté transcendante mais le harem (pas compris dans le prix de l’entrée) est magnifique.

If you have time for only one thing in Constantinople… I mean, Istanbul… then you have to make Topkapi your stop. First off, it’s huge. There is a lot to see here from the various pavilions to the kitchens to the amazing ancient relics room, you can absolutely spend several hours exploring the castle and reviewing the history that has come and gone through this wonderful place. So many very old buildings, so much historical architecture and so many things to see!
All of the signage that I saw was in at least Turkish and in English, which made it easy for an American like myself to enjoy, explore and learn a bit about the history of this place and this region.
And yes, you’ll be able to see the famous Topkapi Dagger made famous in the 1964 film starring Peter Ustinov and Maximilian Schell.
From various ledges and spaces, there are some amazing vistas where you can see the Bosphorous and across to Asia. It’s flippin’ awesome.

Der Palast sieht auf Fotos immer toll aus. Er war im April schon mittags überfüllt und das steigerte sich am Nachmittag. :Daher konnte man kaum mal geradeaus laufen und man kam nur sehr schleppend vorwärts. Stunden vergingen einfach so.
Enttäuschend war das zweimalige Anstehen über 30 min vor kleinen dunklen Räumen, die man nicht einschätzen konnte, Schatz– und Reliquienkammer. Nur wenige Exponate und ungünstig ausgestellt, so dass sich die Besucher stauten. Wir hätten diese Räume evtl. auslassen sollen.
Man sieht allgemein weder Wirtschaftsräume noch Möbel, Kleidung, Bilder, Waffen oder Geschirr, meist leere gekachelte Räume. Daher hat der Palast keinen Museumscharakter und man kann sich das frühere Leben dort kaum vorstellen. Es blieb z. B. unklar, wo die Leute geschlafen hatten. Die englischen Beschreibungen sagten mehr «was» man sieht als «wie» das genutzt wurde. Außen keine sonderlich tolle Architektur, aber in den Räumen sorgsam gearbeitete Ornamente. Es war wohl viel zerstört worden. Von den römischen Bauten darunter erkennt man nichts mehr (im archaolögischen Museum nebenan nachlesen).
Der Harem war allerdings ziemlich sehenswert und völlig anders, als gedacht, kleine Räume, im April noch sehr kühl. Schöner kleiner Außenbereich. 5*. Leider sieht mal nicht mal ein Kleidungsstück, Schmuck oder sonstwas. Wenn da die vielen Museumswärter wenigstens Pluderhosen getragen hätten, wäre das schon genial gewesen.
Der doppelte Preis für zwei Tickets für Palast und drinnen nochmal Harem macht keinen Sinn. (Damit teuerster Eintritt in ganz Istanbuhl, aber immerhin einige extra Arbeitsplätze an der Kasse vor dem Harem geschaffen.)
Im Vergleich: Vom Besuch der Zisterne hatte ich z. B. mehr, stimmungsvoll ohne riesigen Zeitaufwand.
Tip: Harem anschauen, ansonsten im Palast ein Mal querlaufen, Restaurant (extrem leckerer Kuchen) ignorieren, evtl. noch Zeit für das informative archaolögische Museum nebenan aufbringen oder sich lieber auf die Stadt als Erlebnis orientieren. Z. B. gibt es am Ende des Parks am Palast ein schönes Café mit Blick aufs Meer und leckerem Tee. Das war an dem Tag unser eigentliches Highlight.

I have been on the tour here twice — and both times it was great. It was built at the height of the Ottoman post-​conquest of Byzantium in the 1400/​1500s. So it is old and not as ornate as the more rich later palace, the Dolmebache on the other side of the European half of Istanbul.
This place is both an architectural sight to be witnessed, but also a museum to be explored.
My favorite part of the tour was visiting the Harem, a small city within the palace walls where much of the politics of the day was being worked through and decided upon by the Sultan’s wives.
The Topkapi is also right across the street (or grand boullivard) from one of my favorite places in all of Turkey, the ancient Roman cistern, and underground pool with marble pillars and a sideways Medusa head the size of a car.

Topkapi is interesting, worth seeing and not a wow site. You may have seen the like named movie and you’ve heard of the place so you want to see it .You should, some of it’s beautiful and there are good views from here. I think the thing that is a bit of a turn off here is, the crowds.

Der Eintritt kostet 30 TL für den Museumsbereich und nochmal 15 TL für den Harem.
Ich kann nur wärmstens empfehlen, beide Tickets zu kaufen, es lohnt sich wirklich. Dazu unbedingt genügend Zeit einplanen, man kann hier gut und gerne ein paar Stunden verbringen.
Man kann gegen Entgelt auch Audioguides leihen (20 TL). Wir haben darauf verzichtet, es stehen überall Erklärungen auch auf Englisch.
An der Außenseite findet sich auch ein Restaurant und ein Café. Auf den Terassen hat man einen fantastischen Blick über den Bosporus.
Absolute Empfehlung!

My review probably won’t be the most objective since my visit was incredibly frustrating and as a result, cut short. Perhaps we came on a VERY bad day, but it was entirely too crowded, with lines, lines and more lines. Comfortably browsing exhibits was near impossible. This of course did not take away from the stunning colors and architecture — it just wasn’t worth the small fortune that I paid.
EXHIBITS VISITED:
— The Palace Kitchen was simply a collection of porcelains. Somewhat lackluster. However the Confectionery was a bit more interesting with an impressively ornate glassware collection.
— The Treasury, with its collection of Ottoman/​Euro clothing, jewels and arms was quite fascinating, but it was the absolute worst with crowds. Not to mention the aggravation of having to stand on another line.
— Skipped the Circumcision Room because of – you guessed it – A LINE!
–Didn’t pay for harem and probably missed out on other exhibits. We just wanted out from the madness.
USEFUL DEETS:

— Credit cards accepted, but the kiosks were down. Only a few windows in the cash lane accepted credit cards, which was another p.i.t.a. Best to have cash ready as a backup.

— Allegedly strollers are prohibited, but I definitely saw 2 families riding dirty with their spawn, so who knows what the real policy is with that.

One of the biggest palaces of the world, built by the sultan in the 15^th century. It overlooks Bosphorus and Marmara sea, has many important exhibition halls like Treasury, sultans costumes, holly relics, kitchens, audience hall, clocks, weapons, Chinese porcelain, sultans portraits, Divan council, Harem, and so on.
It’s closed on Tuesdays.
The entrance, as of 2014 & 2015 costs 30 TL per person. If you want to visit the Harem you pay an extra 15 TL per person. All payments are in cash in Liras or with credit cards. During the high sason there are huge lines at the ticket office therefore I’d suggest to buy your tickets online in advance from Biletix website. You can also buy the «Museum Pass» which is good in many museums.

This site is a definite must see when visiting Istanbul. It preserves centuries of historic rule. The Topkapi Palace was the home to the Ottoman sultans for over 400 years from 1465 to 1856. Construction began in 1459 by Sultan Mehmed II. In 1985 it became a UNESCO world heritage site.
Inside we saw jewels, furniture and so many other artifacts from the Ottoman Empire’s sultan. There were also many artifacts that seemed quite amazing, but I had never heard of their existence so to find them here at this place with no fanfare made me question their authenticity. With that being said they had artifacts from Moses, Abraham, David, Jesus, etc.

Der Topkapi-​Palast ist genauso berühmt wie sehenswert. Leider wissen das auch die anderen Besucher in Istanbul, weshalb es in vielen der einzelnen Museen ein reines Geschiebe ist und man bekommt nicht viel mit von den Museen. Das ist wirklich schade, zumal man viel Geld dafür ausgibt. Von der Atmosphäre bekommt man leider nur wenig mit.
Gerade in der Reliquienkammer und in der Schatzkammer hätte ich wirklich gerne mehr Zeit verbracht.
Ich war insgesamt echt enttäuscht. Klar gibt es einige tolle Pavillions mit Blattgoldausstattung, gerade der Diwan war schon klasse, aber den Harem zum Beispiel fand ich tierisch langweilig.
Sicherlich sollte man sich den Topkapi-​Palast anschauen, wenn man nach Istanbul kommt, man sollte aber wirklich früh kommen, um überhaupt etwas von dem Besuch haben zu können.

A great experience! This place is worth the visit!
There are several amazing sections to the palace… my favorite was probably The Harem — such amazing art/​architecture/​colors throughout this large section of the palace.
Plan for a good few hours at least for visiting this spot.

I wasn’t in to this place. There was way too many tourists and the exhibits didn’t appeal to me. There are several buildings that house jewels, art work, tapestries, dishes, ceremonial armor which was the most interesting to me, and a relic which was a waste of time. On a more positive note, the grounds are quaint and there’s great photo ops near the restaurant on the river side.

Sicher ein Highlight in Istanbul.
Allerdings ist das Schloß sehr verschlungen. Deshalb reichlich Zeit einplanen. Wir waren im Februar und haben ca 30 Minuten an der Kasse angestanden. Wer Schloß und Harem schaffen will und dabei nicht jedes Stück in der Vitrine genauestens studieren will, sollte mindestens vier Stunden einplanen.
Aber für den Besuch in Istanbul ein MUSS.

The palace (
) is another essential stop for tourists. It’s quite large with many different areas and exhibits including holy relics attributed to the Prophet Mohammed and his companions.
Don’t get caught taking pictures in the clock room (
) or have your best «I’m an ignorant tourist» excuse prepared. I thought the guard was going to confiscate my DSLR, but he just glared at me for an uncomfortable few seconds.
Anyway, you could easily spend an entire day here exploring, but we had just set aside a few hours. We didn’t have time to do the harem tour. .. next time.

Topkapi Palace was pretty cool, just very historic that it was built in the 1400’s. Lots of artifacts from clothing, to jewels and religious relics. Some of the stuff i just glazed over then one room there was a back log and line forming to get in, after getting in i just glazed over the items and said to myself, «whats the big deal?» so i decided to stop and read the placards. Holy crap! Staff of Moses, bowl of St. John, foot print of Mohamed, ect.
The Jewel room was impressive too, walking along, 30 ct Diamond, wow, 50 ct diamond, Holy Crap 83 ct Diamond! Thats makes Kobe Bryant’s, sorry for cheating ring look like nothin’!
Over all it was okay, i guess i didn’t pay for the Harem room, which some seem to say is amazing. You can’t really take pictures of anything inside the rooms, only outside you can take pics of the main palace but not any of the artifacts.
Tip: There are electronic vending machines for tickets not just the ticket office.
The line at the ticket office was kinda long. I bypassed all the people waiting in line
put my money in, pressed the button, and got my ticket way quicker.

Sicherlich ein Highlight in Istanbul und die 25 tl und 15 tl für den Harem wert allerdings hab ich 2 dinge, die ich bemängeln möchte. Die Besucher werden einfach reingeschleust in dieses riesige Areal ohne eine Karte oder Wegweiser und sollen sich in den vielen Räumlichkeiten zurechtfinden. Was ich auch eher enttäuschend fand war der Mangel an persönlichen Geschichten der Bewohner. Vorallem im Harem rennt man von einem Raum in den nächsten ohne Bezug zum damaligen Alltag. Es gibt kaum Möbel od Interieur zu sehen oder Illustrationen wie es vielleicht gewesen sein könnte. Ich weiss der Harem war schon immer top secret aber ein bisschen mehr Info wäre schön gewesen. Die Parkanlage ist wunderschön und sehr gepflegt. ins Café empfehle ich nicht zu gehen. das ist der einzige Nepp. Drinks und Essen bis zu 4x so teuer wie vor den Toren aber wie immer gilt: location location location

buy tickets already online (for Topkapi Sarayi as well as the Harem); they are valid any date/​time and you do not have to queue for buying the tickets!

Der Topkapi Palast ist eine der Sehenswürdigkeiten Istanbuls, die man einfach gesehen haben muss. Die Schatzkammer mit dem 2. größten Diamanten der Welt ist beeindruckend. Auch hier empfiehlt sich das frühe aufstehen, um den Besuchermassen zu entgehen. Der Palast öffnet um 9:00 Uhr.

I adored this beautiful museum complex! It’s a shame that about ¹⁄₃ of it was under renovations while I was there. But when you travel somewhere during its «off season», expect things to be under some state of construction.
I did make the mistake of going here on a Monday… when all the other tourist sites are closed minus this one. Even though I was here in February, it seemed every tourist in Istanbul flocked here as well. Lines for the WC were enormous, which is complete torture if you’re 6 months pregnant like I was. The most famous exhibits were also extremely crowded with very pushy tourists. It was entertaining to see how many were getting in serious trouble because they were blatantly taking pictures. (No photos in most exhibits!)
I loved walking through the Baghdad Pavilion with its walls of Iznik tiles and admiring the incredible workmanship in the Circumcision Room. Seriously gorgeous. Take a break and enjoy the view of the Golden Horn from here as well.
The restaurant is way overpriced so avoid it completely.
Because I bought a Museum Pass, I also visited the Harem Apartments. The crowds seemed to disappear the moment I entered so my husband and I almost had the place to ourselves. Again, much of it was under scaffolding but I did get to see more beautiful tile work and learn about the harem’s history. Worth the extra money in my opinion.
This place is not to be missed (Ummm, Moses’ staff! Come on!) but go on any other day but Monday (too crowded) or the weekend (I saw the lines while walking to the Archeology Museum, no thank you).

Der Topkapi Palast ist durchaus eine besondere Sehenswürdigkeit. Ich kann den. Besuch nur empfehlen. Gelebte Geschichte Die Entführung aus dem Serail !

Imposant, aber nicht umwerfend, da der Vergleich des Lebens des Volkes als Kontrast fehlt.
Daher konnte ich die Bedeutung dieses Palastes für die entsprechende Zeit nicht wirklich erkennen/​realisieren.
Wie das realisiert werden soll weiß ich allerdings nicht.

Sollte bei einem Istanbul-​Besuch auf keinen Fall fehlen: mit 25TL Eintritt und nochmal 15TL für den Harem scheint es zwar erstmal teuer, es sind umgerechnet aber nur 17EUR und ein Erlebnis Wert! Die Ausstellungen sind sagenhaft und die Aussicht vom 4. Hof absolut umwerfend. Nur zu empfehlen!

Wer Topkapi nicht kennt, hat Istanbul verpennt.
Einzigartiger Palast in der pulsierenden 15 Millionen Stadt Istanbul, der uns die Epoche und
das Hofleben im Osmanischen Reich authentisch nachvollziehen läßt. Zweifelsohne ist auch
der Harem und die Historie sowie die spezifischen Reglementierungen der Haremsdamen sehr informativ.
Fazit: Absolute Empfehlung für einen der schönsten Paläste der Welt

Topkapi ist eine der ersten Sehenswürdigkeiten, die jeder Tourist sehen soll. Dies gilt natürlich für diejenige Touriste, die von Osmanischen Reich etwas gehört haben und auf keinen arabische 1001 Nächte-​Erlebnis warten. Der Palast ist nicht auf einmal gebaut sondern je nach Bedarf immer vegrössert und neu gebaut worden. Deswegen kann man den Beeinfluss von anderen Kulturen und die Entwicklung des Reichs gut beobachten. Harem ist nicht etwas besonderes nur wegen der Architektur sondern auch das Leben drin und das System ist besonders. Es kann sein, das dies nicht von Audiooguides in weniger als fünf Minuten verstanden wird.

L’une de mes plus belles visites à Istanbul. Le palais de Topkapi est étonnant de par sa beauté et de sa grandeur. Il y a des bâtiments partout, des salles, de musées qui conservent des trésors fabuleux. Le musée regorge de diamants, d’émeraudes, de vêtements, des oeuvres uniques, des vases, des épées… C’est incroyable bien que plein de monde. L’enceinte du bâtiment est magnifique. Prenez votre temps pour visiter toute les pièces, tous les musées, tous les lieux que cachent ce palais, je n’oublierais jamais cet endroit qui doit être l’un des plus beau du monde tant il est exceptionnel! Le seul bémol c’est qu’il faut de nouveau payer pour visiter le harem, ce qui peut revient cher, même très cher, mais qui peut s’expliquer par la beauté du lieu…

Einer der schönsten Palâste der Welt

Ich schließe mich meinen Vorrednern an: der Palast ist durchaus sehenswert und beeindruckend, insbesondere der Harem lohnt sich sehr.
Ich hatte einen Audioguide, hab aber für mich festgestellt, dass die Informationen auf den Infotafeln eigentlich ausgereicht hätten, viel mehr oder interessantere Sachen hat der Guide nicht erzählt.
Beeindruckend sind auch die Ausstellungen muslimischer Reliquien (Zahn und Bart von Mohammed, zum Beispiel) und der — daneben wenig beachtete, überraschend kleine — Stab des Moses.

Speziell der Harem ist den Besuch wert. Dies schreibt jemand, der leider aufgrund der von den normalen Öffnungszeiten abweichenden Besichtigungsmöglichkeiten nicht in der Lage war, den Harem zu besuchen. Es blieb mir nur vergönnt, meine beiden Frauen (Ehefrau und Tochter) vor der verschlossenen Tür abzulichten — daher auch nur eine halbe Haremstür im Anschnitt.
Für alle, denen es so erging wie mir oder die einfach nur mal reinsehen wollen, habe ich eine 360 Grad Tour im WEB gefunden. Sie gibt einen Eindruck von diesem Gelände und zeigt, dass es ein Palast im Palast ist, den man hier besuchen kann.

Aber über all den Sehenswürdigkeiten eines Palastes vergisst der geneigt Fotograf oft das Entscheidende. Warum haben sich die Bauherren damals genau diesen Platz ausgesucht? Die Antwort liegt im Panoramablick:

Hier hatte man wirklich alles im Blick und der Ausblick ist noch heute unvergleichlich schön.

Wieder ist meinen ausführlichen Vorrednern kaum etwas an Datenmaterial hinzuzufügen. Daher nur ein persönliches Bekenntnis: unter allen Bauwerken Istanbuls war der Topkapi für mich als Erlebnis die eindeutige Nummer 1.
Wir haben dort sicher an die 3 Sttunden verbracht, ohne dabei Zeit im völlig hirnrissig überteuerten Restaurant am Nordende zu verbringen.
Der Aufpreis für den Harem ist meines Erachtens übrigens angesichts des Gebotenen durchaus ok

Le musée de Topkapi (La Porte du Canon) est avant tout un palais (Topkapi Sarayi), il fut la deuxième résidence des sultans turcs ottomans à Istanbul mais aussi le siège du gouvernement de l’empire ottoman du milieu du XVème au milieu du XIXème siècle. Le premier palais (le vieux palais, palais des larmes dans la littérature) (Eski Sarayi) fut construit immédiatement après la conquête de la ville de Constantinople par les Turcs ottomans en 1453 (Mehmet II, dit le conquérant) et fut détruit au XIXème siècle lors de la construction de l’université d’Istanbul près de la mosquée de Bajazet. C’est dans ce palais que les femmes du harem d’un sultan déchu finissaient leurs tristes jours dès lors que le nouveau sultan prenait place avec toute sa cour dans le palais de Topkapi. La construction de Topkapi est ordonnée moins de dix années après la conquête de la ville, alors que la capitale de l’empire se déplace d’Edirne (Thrace orientale) à Istanbul, sur l’extrémité du promontoire bordé par la Corne d’Or au nord, la Marmara au sud et le Bosphore à l’est, à l’emplacement d’une ancienne oliveraie et sur une partie des ruines du grand palais byzantin. Ceints par les murailles byzantines au nord et au sud, il suffisait de construire une portion de muraille pour fermer la pointe du Sérail. Cette muraille longe actuellement la rue de la source froide, relie l’entrée principale du parc de Gülhane à la fontaine monumentale d’Ahmet III, entre l’église sainte Sophie et l’église sainte Irèné, cette dernière étant à présent à l’intérieur de la première cour du palais. On né connaît pas l’identité des architectes qui ont contribué à son édification dont l’agencement fut à maintes reprises remanié, chaque sultan apportant son lot de constructions nouvelles (pavillons, kiosks). Les tremblements de terre, les incendies ont eux aussi profondément modifié Topkapi. Ce palais se présente sous la forme de quatre cours successives sans aucun esprit d’unité (des parties les plus publiques aux parties les plus privées du palais) à l’intérieur des quelles s’agencent bâtiments, galeries, portiques, pavillons et kiosks; une délicieuse enfilade de corps de logis et de verdure qui confère à l’ensemble une poésie certaine. Les parties les plus anciennes datent du règne du Conquérant, Soliman le magnifique (1520 – 1566) et son architecte contemporain Sinan ont profondément contribué à l’aspect actuel du palais; de nombreux décors datent du XVII et du XVIIIème siècle (dans le harem par exemple); certains pavillons témoignent des goûts du XIXème siècle, notamment dans la quatrième cour. C’est à cette époque que Topkapi sera petit à petit délaissé, jugé vieillissant et austère, les sultans préférant vivre dans des palais construits sur les rives du Bosphore puis au palais de Dolmabahçe (Abdülmecit l’inaugure en 1856). Déserté, il sera transformé en musée à l’aube de la toute jeune république turque par Mustapha Kemal Atatürk en 1924.
La première cour (cour des Janissaires, la plus grande): on y accède par la porte de l’Auguste ou porte impériale; on y trouve l’ancienne monnaie impériale et l’église byzantine sainte Irèné, ouverte au public en été pour un festival de musique. On accède à la deuxième cour par la porte du milieu ou porte du Salut.
La deuxième cour: elle renferme l’ancien hôpital du palais, la boulangerie, les quartiers des janissaires, les anciennes écuries (musée des voitures impériales), le harem impérial, le trésor (collection d’armes et armures), le Divan au nord, et les cuisines au sud (restaurées par Sinan, magnifique collection de porcelaines et de céladons). Majestueusement plantée de cyprès, elle impressionne le visiteur. On accède à la troisième cour par la porte de la Félicitée.
Troisième cour (partie privée du palais): c’est un jardin luxuriant qui rassemble la salle d’audience, la bibliothèque d’Ahmet III, la mosquée des Agas, le dortoir des pages qui renferme une collection de portraits impériaux, la chambre privée qui abrite les reliques du prophète (c’est le sultan Selim Ier, père de Soliman, qui s’octroie le titre de calife après la victoire sur les Mamelouks d’Egypte en 1517), le pavillon du conquérant qui cache le fabuleux trésor impérial, le dortoir du corps expéditionnaire et sa collection de la garde-​robe impériale, le quartier des eunuques blancs
Quatrième cour: c’est la partie la plus intime du palais et on y jouit d’un magnifique panorama sur la Corne d’Or, le Bosphore et la Marmara depuis la salle de la circoncision, le pavillon de l’Iftariye, les kiosks parmi lesquels ceux de Bagdad, d’Erevan, du sofa et d’Abdülmecit.
Le harem est la plus belle partie du palais. Il a l’aspect d’une petite ville de quatre cents salles et cours dans lesquelles vivaient, recluses, la mère du sultan qui jouissait de tous les pouvoirs, cadines, concubines et esclaves. C’est un véritable dédale qui relie le quartier des eunuques noirs, les appartements et les bains des servantes, de la sultane mère autour d’une

La parte más llamativa del palacio es la zona del Harem, donde vivían todas las mujeres y que por desgracia en mi visita a la ciudad estaba cerrado.
El resto del palacio es muy bonito, podemos ver varias salas de lectura y bibliotecas, magnificamente decorados con azulejos de Izmir, jardines y fuentes.
Tiene varias zonas de exposición donde podemos admirar el tesoro real, magníficas piezas de oro y priedras preciosas lo componen, y una exposición de armas, donde destacan los sables y armaduras otomanas.
Las vistas desde el palacio son estupendas, ya que está situado entre el Cuerno de Oro y el Bósforo, por lo que tiene vistas a Europa y Asia.
Es más que recomendable una vista panorámica del palacio desde la zona asiática de la ciudad al atardecer.

Ergänzung zu den anderen Beiträgen. Man muss tatsächlich drei mal zahlen, will man den ganzen Palast mit allen gemächern sehen. Dabei ist zu beachten: Der Harem ist keinesfalls nur der Aufenthaltsort für die Gespielinnen des Sultan. Hiermit ist ein geschlossener Gereich gemeint, der mehrere Gemächer, Räume und Plätze umfasst, die eben nur wenigen Personen zugänglich waren. Ein Glück, dass wir jetzt alle für ein paar Lira den Blick hineinwerfen können

Le Sérail (palais) de Topkapi était la résidence des sultans avant la construction du palais de Dolmabahçe. Bâtit sur l’acropole de l’antique Byzance, le site domine à la fois la ville, le Bosphore et la Corne d’Or, à l’extrême pointe de la péninsule de Stamboul.
Ce palais, constitué d’un ensemble de pavillons disséminés dans des jardins, était une vraie ville, avec harem, mosquées, bibliothèques, services extérieurs, etc., le tout entouré de hauts murs flanqués de tours de surveillance. Le sérail est aujourd’hui un musée célèbre pour ses trésors, témoignages d’un passé somptueux.

Meine ausführliche lange Beschreibung ist gerade verloren gegangen, nachdem ich die Adressdaten eingeben musste und versand, war mein Beitrag weg!
Ich fand es toll. Der Palast ist nur über den Südeingang zu betreten und somit muss man am Archeologischen Museum vorbei und durch den kleinen Teil der Parkanlage hinter der Kirche, um zum Eingang zu kommen.
Eintritt: 10 TLira, und für den Harem nochmal 10 TLira
Audio Führer kann man glaub ich für 5 oder 15 TLira mieten. und einen Personen Führer für 19TLira/​Stunde.
Das Palastgelände ist durch eine sehr hohe Befestigungsmauer umschlossen und die Eingangsäumenden Türme sehen wie aus dem Märchen aus. Sehr beeindruckend.
Man kann folgende Bereiche besichtigen, inkl. Ausstellungen:
— Harem inkl Gemächer und Baderäume vom Prinzen und von der Sultansmutter (persönlich fand ich diesen Teil am interessantesten, da in den vielen Spielfilmen dieser Ort so magisch wirkt und Paradiesähnlich dargestellt wird).,
— Küchenbereich, in dem für ca über 1000 Menschen gekocht wurde, die damals dort im Palast lebten.
— Schatzkammer und Ausstellungen über :
— Teppiche,
— Geschenke anderer Nationen an den Sultan,
— Juwelen,
— Portraits der Sultane,
— Waffen,
— Kleidung,
— historisch islamische Schätze (z.B. Mohammeds Fussabdruck, Bart des Propheten, Teil des Hamid oder Verpackung (Holztüren etc) (schwarzen Steins in Mekka). Dort wird der Koran auch LIVE die ganze Zeit gesungen.
— Konyali Restaurant und Café mit Terrasse und mit geschlossenem Bereich inklusive schöner Aussicht auf das Ufer des asiatischen Teils Istanbuls. Sehr leckeres Essen à la carte, aber etwas teurer, aber gute Qualität und gehobener Service. Man kann auch günstiger dort im Aussenbereich essen und an der Kantinenähnlichen Ausgabe sich bedienen. Das Restaurant ist einen separaten Beitrag wert und folgt später.
Sehr empfehlenswert. Sehr schöné Gebäude und Verzierungen, die manchmal nur teilweise noch vorhanden sind. Goldene Muster oder Abalone oder Juwelen bestückte Türen und Gegenstände können nur erahnen lassen, wie wohlhabend sie damals waren.
Man sollte sich Zeit dafür nehmen, ich habe sicherlich mehr als 3 Stunden dort verbracht.
