Mountain Top

This place is recognized for having «the world famous banana daiquiri and omg it was sooooooooooo good. This place is worth the crazy left-​sided, upward, curvy type of narrow driving. If you have a good strong heart, or blindfold with an iPod in your ear, then go happily. Once there, you’ll be delighted with all sorts of souvenirs. Some are quite expensive, but you’ll think, well I’m here now, I might as well buy it cause I don’t think I want to venture up this road sober again… As far as that banana daiquiri its located at the back of the huge store. Enjoy!!!
Hopefully it doesn’t rain on your day as it did on ours… If it’s a nice sunny day, you should be able to see one of the world’s most beautiful beaches: Megan’s Beach…
Oh??? Those guard rails??? Yeah while riding along upwards or down the mountaintop, try not to look down at the mangled damaged guard rails. Try not to let your mind wonder about what happened to the poor vehicles that met the guard rails.

Amazing stunning views of St. Thomas! A great spot for picture perfect photos!!! The road up to this mountain top was definitely an excursion adventure by itself with crazy 90 degree angle turns. Luckily we rented a jeep! I recommended if you drive there, do NOT go back down pass sun set. We did and all I have to say is that are mightily luckily we are alive. On our way back, we got lost with barely any street lights so it was hard to see especially with loopy road conditions. Overall, it was a beautiful visit!
However, even though they are FAMOUS for their banana daiquiri, my husband with my two friends and I thought the STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI tasted waaaaaayyyyy better than the banana one. So save your money and just try the strawberry one (not on their menu)!!

DONT come here for the banana daiquiri — they are a rip-​off ($ 11 for a tiny small cup)!!! Come here for the goo view/​scenery. We got a great view of Magens Bay from the balcony. The giant Cruzan bottle was kinda cool too — something you got to do if you are a tourist :)

Yes, the gift shop is cheesy as mentioned in other reviews. Cut right through and head for the amazing views and shop on your way out if you want. Tried one of the «World Famous Banana Daiquiris». They were OK but nothing spectacular. They are a bit pricey as well. Worth a quick trip. Our tour guide dropped us off and we had about 20 minutes to do all they had to offer, which was fine.

Good spot to take pics and get some drinks. Don’t miss this.
In the age of facebook, twitter, instagram and all the that bull crap that does not mean a thing in real life, this spot may help a lot of phony people to spin a whole lot of bs story.
You Phonies (catcher in the rye).

This is basically just a massive tourist trap at the top of the island. The major plus is the spectacular view available from the balcony at the back of the shop. You don’t have to pay to go in, so you can go for free to admire the view and take all the pictures you want. The items for sale are standard tourist junk that you might bring back for little kids or someone you don’t particularly like. Lame, overpriced souvenirs adorn nearly every square inch of the massive warehouse. The staff here are friendly though, and they do have a bar in the back. I didn’t try any of the drinks but I can say that the prices were fairly outrageous from what I saw. It’s really just a fun place to stop and take pictures and say that you went to the mountain top.

While on a tour of the island we stopped here to see the impressive views.
The shop is a perfect spot for souvenir shopping because their are so many options and the prices vary but are affordable.
They constantly promote their famous banana daiquiri from the time you enter until you leave. Of course I had to try it — but unfortunately I was not impressed. It was not the best tasting daquiri that Ive had by far. To me it tasted like a slushy full of cheap but strong banana flavored liquor. Hard drinkers my be a fan of this but not me-​no thanks.
However, the place itself is very touristy but the views from there terrace/​balcony were well worth the visit.

I went to Mountain Top in St. Thomas, V.I. on 2÷18÷2014. It was my first time there. You go to Mountain Top for one of three things: to see a beautiful view of the island, to buy a souvenir at the huge gift shop or drink one of their Banana Daiquiri. I did all three. Plus, I took photos.

While exploring St. Thomas, we headed up to Mountain Top to see what all the fuss was about. I guess I didn’t know what to expect, but honestly, I wasn’t expecting a massive gift shop! But, that’s what you find at Mountain Top, also a bar that serves what they tout as the World Famous Banana Daiquiri. Since I don’t actually like banana flavored things, I had a Pina Colada.
The gift shop has sooooooooooo much stuff, but our favorite was the 2 for $ 10 dresses. I got two and my mom got four! In fact, I’m wearing one as I write this! Otherwise it;s all the usual touristy ticky tacky gifts you find at a souvenir shop anywhere, but all under one roof. When you step outside you get a beautiful view of Magen’s Bay and the British Virgin Islands in the distance. It’s really lovely.
One of the best parts of this location is the breeze that keeps you cool. It’s one of the coolest places I found on the island while we were there, so consider that if it’s a particularly hot day. It was worth the drive up there, but that’s all that is there. They say there is a botanical garden, but that is actually at a different location. So, there isn’t much to do there but take photos, shop and drink. But we liked it.
Also, while the parking is up above the store and you walk down stairs to get there, if you continue on the driveway, it circles down so that those who have access needs can either be dropped off at the front door or if you have a handicap placard, you can park down close to the front entrance.

Look, ill save you a trip unless you are looking for a banana daiquiri or a souvenir shop that reminds you that you are still a tourist after all. The view is nice but I saw plenty of better views driving up the mountain and during my trip around the island. I would suggest saving your time and just travel around the island for a view.

I found this place to be pretty much a huge gift shop with a view. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, most people on vacation probably buy souvenirs, but I’m not most people. It just makes me sad that so much of the things in these gift shops say «Made in China.» That’d be awesome if I were on vacation in China, but I wasn’t.
Anyway, we made a stop here while spending a day in St. Thomas on a cruise we were taking. I’d never been to the Caribbean before (this redhead doesn’t typically seek out sunny, tropical locales) but I have to say, St. Thomas was by FAR my favorite of the three places we visited and I would definitely return here for an extended vacation.
We made a stop at Mountain Top on a tour we signed up for through our cruise company. Yes, it was very crowded, mostly at the entrance as all the taxis and tour vans were trying to park but once inside, it wasn’t too bad.
As I said, I’m not a huge fan of shopping or buying kitschy things that I will have no place for once I get home so I pretty much ignored the store part of it. We were only there for 20 minutes and about 10 of those minutes was spent with me frantically trying to find my younger sister whom I had lost sight of.
The other 10 minutes were spent out on the deck checking out the view. It was windy, so 10 minutes was all I needed to take a few quick pictures.
I confess, we did not get a banana daiquiri. Why, I have no idea. We probably should have, but I must’ve known somewhere inside of me that I didn’t want to have to deal with carrying a cup in addition to my purse, camera, hat etc. Shit gets cumbersome…
My sister bought a few things for our parents. Rum cake is all I can remember. Our paternal Grandpa makes his own rum cake (which is very heavy on the rum) and it’s kind of family joke because every time we go visit him, he announces that rum cake is for dessert. It always is. None of us much care for rum cake.
I felt rushed being here as part of the tour group so when I return on my own (and I will), I’ll likely take more time to look around.

the view from here is beautiful, we lucked out and came on a non-​cruise ship day and there was just handful of people. We tried the famous banana daiquiri and even though i’m not a fan of bananas this isn’t too bad, maybe because there was definitely more rum than bananas.
There’s also the biggest gift shop up here and if you want to get souvenirs they have everything you can think of.
and is it just me? or no one wants to work? everyone looked busy but no one wanted to open a cash register when we wanted to make a purchase, instead they send us all the way back to the bar to pay.
I gotta say the only person who was working for their pay was definitely the bartender, he was not only making drinks but helping the other couple with their questions and ringing us out, this place needs more workers like that not the ladies who were at three different cash register, too busy ‘restocking’ items to help customers.

This place burned down in 2009 and was rebuilt. Very kitschy touristy. Just a large «shopping mecca» at the highest point on the island-​1550 feet. T-​shirts galore. «Home of the famous banana daquiri» (and a line to try it). Sells Cruzan rums. Decent bathrooms. Breath-​taking scenic overlook with a great picture of the distant islands with labels of which is which. Crowded on cruise ship days. Giant rum blow-​up bottle out front. Lots of pirate statues. If you park in one place you have to descent long long long stairs. If you drive down, you might find parking along the street that is an easier walk in. Part of most of the narrated taxi tours on the island.

We had to be back onboard our ship early, and it was a dreary, rainy day in St. Thomas, so we took island tour that took us to several scenic points, including Mountain Top. The view is great, although it was obscured by clouds and rain. The giftshop here is over-​priced, though you can probably find something for everyone on your souvenir list here. And do not leave without trying the banana daquiri… the bartenders are very generous with the rum pours.

They say that Mountain Top is worth seeing. I think most people who say this have had the drinks, because quite frankly, it’s pretty bad. You have to take a winding road (a very winding road) to the top of the mountain — this would be the «mountain» part of Mountain Top — to get there. Just keep going up, because it’s not like Saint Thomas is a large island, and you’ll get there eventually.
At the top, you’ll find a tourist mall, a display of pirate statues and, believe it or not, a daiquiri bar. Yes, you can came all that way, risking life and limb, for a banana daiquiri. And a view. The view is actually pretty nice — but you could have stopped halfway up the mountain and had just about as good a view, without paying for an overpriced drink.
It’s really not bad — but try and get there early or you’ll have to fight with other tourists trying to figure out what in the world they are doing there.
