History
Established in 1976.
Originally built as a 32 unit hotel in 1967, and operated as The Indies House. In 1976, it was purchased by Lon Southerland, a realtor and hotel operator from St. Croix. Renamed Magens Point Resort, it was expanded and improved by 1979, with the addition of two light tennis courts, a reception/administration building and pool bar. Construction had also begun on a new 22 villa timeshare/vacation club building which upon completion would become The Magens Bay Villas Club at Magens Point Resort. Michael Shelby, a hotel consultant and condo developer, was brought in to complete the financing, construction marketing and sales of the new project. By 1992, the club inventory in the new building was sold out. In an effort to make available more club memberships, 30 of the hotel units were renovated into studio timeshare/vacation club villas and marketed and sold as The Tropic Leisure Club. By 2013, a second pool, hot tub, deli/coffee shop and restaurant had been added to the resort.
