I’ve been meaning to try this place for ages. I went for the classic jerk chicken with rice and peas. I also managed to find room for a side of plantain. There’s also goat, beef, lamb patties, all the usual suspects for a Jamaican place. I definitely enjoyed all of my meal and I will come again. Not least for the lively atmosphere in the lunch queue. It’s hot as hades in the kitchen though, I was fanning myself in the queue and really felt for the hard working ladies in there.

I’m amazed that I’ve lived in Chorlton for 10 months now, really close to this takeaway, and only managed to get myself there this weekend. If you want a huge portion of delicious wholesome food for a decent price, this is where you want to be. We ordered through Just Eat which was simple and efficient. When we arrived to collect our order we had to wait for a few minutes as they were waiting on the jerk chicken, but this wasn’t a problem. The staff in the shop are so friendly, I almost wanted to just spend the night there chatting with them! Between two of us we ordered a staggering amount of food — jerk chicken and curry goat(both with rice and peas), plantain, lamb pattie, and coleslaw. All this came to just under £15 which was very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food we got. Some of the individual items seem quite steep — £1 for four measly slices of plantain?! — but the total paid was just fine. The food was all delicious, with lots of flavour and a decent hit of heat. The portion size of rice & peas that you get is gigantic, and I definitely couldn’t finish mine. The meat was really well cooked and very tasty. Plantains were great(I only wish there was more). Overall this is a great option for takeout in Chorlton/Whalley Range.

When you first move to a city. At least a city where you’ve a few friends already. It seems to me you always end up doing the same things. The Museums, the trendy bars, the boutique cafes, the civic buildings with funny people carved into the sides, all that jazz. I think it says a lot then when i moved to Manchester, a city with a great many of my friends in. That one of the first things they did was drive me out of the city to Jerk Junction. More to the point we drove past a half dozen restaurants that would have served similar fare to what was promised here. But it wasn’t the real deal. And i think that’s what Jerk Junction is. Its authentic. The kitchen is right in front of you as you go in. Your immersed in the smell and the sound of it. When we arrived three women were cooking away happily. We were welcomed in, they chatted with us(i almost felt like i’d walked into my aunts kitchen and dinner was on the way — not that she ever served Caribbean cuisine this good!) Within next to no time we had 3 helpings of Jerk Chicken, rice and peas. And one mammoth goat curry. The chicken was spicy and some level awesome, and the volume of food is great. We had some nifty mango flavored drink to wash it down with and happiness ensued! Highly recommended, even for those not really in the area :-)
