Description

Specialties

We are situated just 5 minutes from Loughborough and Quorn, on the quaint and bustling High Street of the pretty riverside village of Barrow upon Soar. Owners Mark and Jill set out with the vision of a restaurant that they would want to eat at themselves. They renovated the former spit and sawdust pub — dating back to 1753 — into a chic but comfortable eatery where guests can enjoy the culinary delights of Head Chef Jonny Kempson. Our focus is quality food at non-gastro prices. This is affordable luxury at its best, hence our strap line ‘great food’.

The Blacksmiths Arms is located in the centre of the pretty riverside village of Barrow upon Soar, just a 5 minute drive from Loughborough, centrally located between Leicester and Nottingham, we are perfectly located for any occasion.

History

Established in 2013.

In the mid 1700’s Joseph Hull and his wife owned this wonderful historic building. During this period they happily ran a successful and thriving Blacksmiths’s and Village Inn. The buildings first official sign was a hammer and a pair of pincers fixed to the outside wall.

When Joseph Hull died in 1753, his wife was unable to work the Blacksmiths business but continued to run the Inn as ‘The Blacksmiths Arms’ in memory of her beloved husband.

It is easy to imagine how this Inn was used during the Eighteenth century — providing locals and those passing through with a market on the doorstep, food & drink, stabling and a coach house with overnight lodgings. The Blacksmiths Arms became the heart of the village.

In 1846 the new landlord Edward Voce change the name of the Inn to The Hammer and Pincers.

We are pleased to return The ‘New’ Blacksmiths Arms 1753 as a great dining experience to the heart of our wonderful village.
