Who knew the Romans were the inventors of the indoor water park?
But seriously, this was absolutely amazing! The ruins and baths themselves would be spectacular enough. But the attached museum does a brilliant job explaining the hows and whys of the place.
Standouts were the films reenacting what temple scenes might have been, the auditorium recreating the front frieze with slide projections to fill in the missing stone parts, the tin plates showing the extremely petty grievances pilgrims asked for help with («whoever stole my brooch should meet an early and painful death»), the original lead pipe still in place under the (thermally heated) floor, the overflow grotto and canal, and of course the huge central pool itself is spectacular.
I did not enjoy the main audioguide. I found it a little long winded and time consuming. If you can catch a live tour, I think that’s the way to go. We tagged along with one for the last portion of the tour, and the guide was excellent, informative and entertaining.

The Roman Bath Museum has preserved the original foundation of the natural hot springs which is the soul of the beautiful city of Bath. The audio guides are very informative and detail the history and archaeological discoveries. This is one most well-​preserved Roman sites in the UK. Very fascinating! For more information visit

Had fun nerding out and learning about Roman baths. They don’t like it when you try to actually take a bath there so be warned. Otherwise fun place to walk around and the line wasn’t too bad getting in.

When you come to Bath, you’ve got to come inside the Roman Baths, which gives the city it’s name. It’s an engineering marvel to think that the Romans were able to utilize the hot springs to make a «bath». The visit itself, is a bit much. The tour is informative, but if you’re short on time and just want to see the space, it’s not that marvelous. The main bath is interesting, because you can get a feel of the space and architecture, the ruins are pretty meh. The best part is the end, you actually get to drink the water. You can taste the minerals, for me mainly the iron, tasted like when you lick your own blood from a cut.

I love history and this is one historical place that is easy to get to and frankly interesting to visit.
If you like me who will read basically every possible sign, listen to every narrative, you can easily spend over half a day there.
It is an impressive site considering the history behind and it’s interesting to see how there’s still heat coming out of the ground even to this day!

Much better than I thought it would be. I expected a small puddle with a few bricks around it and a bunch of toga-​wearing part-​time actors charging to take pictures with them. What you actually get is a really well-​preserved look into Britain’s Celtic and Roman past. The audio guide opens up a whole new dimension to the place; it will teach you more than you can learn in any of the London museums. You can even drink some of the spring water before you leave, even though it does taste like it flows straight from Andre the Giant’s armpit.
If you’re in Bath then you have to visit (partly because there isn’t much else to do there).

This is my second visit to the Roman Baths and as expected, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. The architecture is amazing, it really shows the history. Each room shows a little bit of history, which is amazing. It is definitely one of a kind historic building seeping in history. It is the best way to learn the history of Bath in a short time. There is a lot to see here but its not too much that you can get bored. If your contemplating to go in, just go in. Its amazing!

This museum is a must see if you find yourself in Bath England. As a matter of fact you could be staying anywhere in the southern region of England and make a day trip to Bath to see some shops and have tea and see the famous Roman bath ruins.
First, queue and make your way to a very enthusiastic older gentleman who is very excited that you are there to witness such a historical site. You could deal with any number of men or women to help you out. Everyone we spoke to on the day of our tour and the day before when we got information was very helpful and nice.
The price of the ticket was very reasonable, for such an historic site, (14 pounds) and well worth the admission. As you walk through there is a hand held audio device that speaks to you and gives you loads of information as you walk by each exhibit. You get to see and even walk on some of the actual ruins that made up the Roman bath house. Being able to walk where Romans walked 2000 years ago is kind of spooky exciting. The tour can take you as long as you like but typically can be accomplished in less than two hours. For your reward, at the end of the tour, you can sample the actual spring water. You be the judge on it’s taste.
I would love to go back and see the ruins again. It would be even nicer to sit in the water but I wouldn’t want to turn it into an international incident.

I couldn’t say enough about this musuem. Simply one of the best historic monuments I have been to. I would recommend to anyone visiting the uk to find a way to visit Bath. The Roman Baths are a MUST see.
The musuem is vee well done. Take your time to read about the history. It is really well presented. The videos right before you go into the actual bath area are, really interesting.
I would suggest getting the audio tour so it can provide you with more info. Also, it is definitely worth going to the guided tour. I think it’s done once an hour. If you are lucky there will be actors dressed in costumes of thst time. If so, go talk to them!
Also, the main area is just beautiful to see! very picturesque!

We deliberated about paying the £14 per person to visit the Roman Baths but we were so glad we did! It’s so amazing inside! So much history.
The museum is very well laid out inside with seats every so often should you need a rest.
My only qualm is that the audio guide became extremely overwhelming. It was too much information to digest and in the end I just stopped listening.
You could easily spend half a day here, although when we got our tickets the lady said 1.5 hours. So just be prepared for the size of the place!

Visited April 2015: «Took a trip back to another time»
We located a car park, but slightly got lost on the walk towards Bath. The Roman Baths were supplied with videos of the restoration of the exhibit, had several artifacts from the original Roman bath, history of the Bath, and a gentleman dressed up as a Roman citizen. We were able to see several different types of bath houses during the tour. I loved seeing the heat coming up from the water, and being able to observe the bubbles coming up from the hot spring. I was a bit surprise how musty spelling the ruins were. At some times I was overwhelmed with the smell of dirt. You were also able to have a taste of the water. I found the mineral water smelt like sulfur and had a metal taste to it.

This place is amazing! The history behind it is also great — the largest pool was undiscovered until the 18−19^th century, which is incredible if you think that the bath itself dates back to about 1^st century AD.
There are guided tours (for free) I think there are about 5 per day — so check times — and they can walk you through the bath, explain each room’s function. They also have a great audio guide. The experience is further enhanced by the actors who are various ‘people’ from Roman times and you can ask them further questions about what it was like for them.

I don’t get it… Why are the Roman baths in the middle of England? It was OK to experience this but for the most part this was a boring excursion.
However there are a lot of little shops and cafés and place to get ice cream in the town. I think this is mostly a tourist attraction.

Absolutely amazing!!! Dating a couple hundred years pre Christ, these lovely and intelligently designed Roman bathes were found underground a couple decades ago by British archeologists. After years of unearthing and rebuilding and cleaning up the general area, tourists are allowed to walk through this once fancy, extravagant resort frequented by Romans them occupying this part of the UK. Only wealthy to-​do Romans (and their servants) would have traveled here to these mineral hot springs to bath in the thought to be healing waters and get massages and other spa-​like treatments. (It’s thought enemas and vomitoriums were used frequently, as well.)
There are period actors who dramatically reenact what would have been the scene there. It’s really fascinating.
Highly recommend! The area of Bath in general is quite wonderful!

The main attraction in Bath and it is well deserved for they do have a lot of interesting stuff to see and read.
A really nice place to visit, the statues and the building is in quite a good shape for something from that time in history.
It is interesting to read about the beliefs of the Romans concerning thermal sources and also their way of life.
Moreover, the site is not fenced everywhere, and by that I mean that you don’t have huge fences disabling you from approaching the things you want to see. So you feel free to visit in your own way and enjoy the site. There is also a well-​made audio-​guide that they give you at the entrance for no extra expenses — the entrance ticket is expansive enough for that but sometimes museums feel necessary to charge you again — I personally prefer to read stuff because I can go at my own pace and not follow the pace of a narrator.
The only issue for me is that the attraction is really popular which means crowded. You don’t feel it that much because the site is quite big with a lot of rooms except in the room with the tools, graves and coins. There is so much information there that people tend to stay in that room longer while it is one of the smallest. So if you are a reader like me, it is tricky to approach the inscriptions.
I also have noticed something really nice and I wished it was more common: the price for an annual ticket is only a few pounds higher than the price for one visit. It is really nice if you are visiting someone in the city because they won’t have to pay a high fare to visit something they already did!

I love this place. I also like Bath a lot. I would totally recommend taking a day trip here from London. It’s my favorite of all the day trips I’ve ever done from the city. I did not take a guided tour. The Roman Baths are within walking distance of the train, so I just bought a train ticket. The train was expensive, but I think it’s worth it and it’s cheaper just to buy the ticket than it is for most group tours.
I love walking around the baths and museum. One of my favorite exhibits in shows curses Roman’s used to write on paper to their gods. They are pretty petty for the most part. I think it makes the people seem «real» to me. Of course they were real, and I realize that Romans are the same «modern humans» that currently exist on the planet. I guess it’s just that my idea of them was that they were either great leaders or struggling to survive without time to think of petty complaints and revenge. WRONG!
I had «an experience» with the exhibit dealing with pulleys. They were showing how a new type of pulley allowed a single person to lift more weight. So there were two pulleys and a line up to try them (all female). I was last and when I got to the old style one, I gently just sort of tugged it at first. I thought, «Wow this does seem much heavier.» I had a flyer/​museum map in one hand and so I used both hands and really yanked on the rope. The weight flew up to the top to the ceiling, which I guess is hollow because there was a loud «BOOM! BOOM!» with a hollow sounding echo. It hit each way and I was afraid I was going to break the ceiling panel.
The woman in front of me, a senior citizen from the UK, said, «My, you are strong dear.»
Another woman said, «How did you do that? I couldn’t do that at all!».
I was really embarrassed at the time. In retrospect, at least the ceiling didn’t get a dent or anything so I guess it could’ve been worse. I am convinced when I pulled the thing I somehow «cheated» and accidentally pulled it on an angle or something. I am not sure how I did it, because I booked out of that area asap. I was a little concerned I was going to get chewed out because the noise was really loud. Anyway, you may want to be careful with that one. Other than that I really had fun. I also recommend the pump room for tea.

Bath is the only place in the UK to have the whole city designated a World Heritage site. One of the main attractions in this cultural city is the Roman Baths. You get to walk in the footsteps of the Romans on the ancient stone pavements around the pool of spring water that is beautifully preserved and presented. The baths were originally built around 44 A.D. These baths are special because they are known to be the biggest and most complete representation of what was used by the Romans.
My boyfriend visited the Roman Baths during our day trip to Stonehedge/​Bath earlier this year and really enjoyed the Roman historic nature of the site. You get to see how the Roman’s developed and used the hot spring from beneath Bath 2,000 years ago. You can get a free audio tour from the reception before you start. The audio guide is very clear and goes through each step and artifact of the museum with you. There was no line when we got there, but there are places within the tour that were very cramped as we made our way using the audio guide.
The museum was really well laid out, informative and extremely interesting. There are films and demonstrations to add to the artifacts. We explored the rooms where the water was heated, the dressing areas, etc. All the rooms (the baths, the plunge pool, etc.) are very well preserved and restored.
When trying to take a selfie next to the Great Bath, I accidentally dropped my camera. It bounced off the concrete and into the Roman Bath water. My heart dropped and I became was speechless for the first time on the trip. There was a group of 10 year olds across from us that started laughing at the incident. It definitely wasn’t funny to me. I forced my boyfriend to try and fish my camera out of the water, but security came running to us and told us not to touch the water as it is unsafe. Security was nice enough to get my camera out of the water, take it apart to dry out the battery and SD card out. The staff was very considerate and understanding, and reassured me that people drop their cameras, cellphones, etc. every day. Thankfully, I was able to save the SD card and get pictures from the trip!
Despite the unfortunate incident with my camera, we enjoyed visiting the preserved Roman spa and baths in one of the most beautiful cities in the UK. There was also an opportunity to try the Bath water at the end of the tour in the Pump Room just before the museum exit.

Must See! We got a groupon for 2 for a day trip to Stonehenge and Bath for £65. We met at Gloucester Station at 8am and returned back at 6:30pm. Upon our arrival in Bath we were given maps with points of interest if we wanted to explore on our own and our guide offered a guided tour as well. We stayed in Bath for about 3 hours giving us time for Lunch, to see the Roman baths and other interesting a sites in the city. Bath was a great city to visit with loads of history! We did get a chance to sample the spring water from Bath at the Pump Room. It was very metallic tasting, apparently because of all the minerals!

I got the Twilight Tour and Dinner package as part of my ticket entry to the Roman Baths, and frankly it’s not something I would recommended. Instead next time I would just get a straight up single ticket to the museum and wander around listening to the excellent audio tour guide.
This package includes a 45min guide in person who you meet up with at 4:30 but unfortunately our guide had a super thick accent and it was hard to understand her. She also didn’t display any enthusiasm for the amazing features in front of us and pretty much everything she told us, I had already heard from the audio guide, so not sure how much additional value thus component of the package was?
I did like the combo of a three course dinner at the Roman Baths Kitchen being included as I discovered food I might not have otherwise, but that also acted as a restriction and I skipped eating in the assembly rooms which I would have done otherwise.
I would also recommend that if you want to see and absorb all the amazing displays at this museum, that you set aside at least 3 – 4 hours to do this justice and definitely try a taste of the waters that all those regency folks in the 1800s came to Bath to drink. You get a free taste of the sulfuric rich waters towards the end of the tour and the taste is quite minerally but not barf– enducingly bad.

If you go to the city of Bath, your probably there mainly to see the roman baths lol.
This beautiful historical touristy attraction is def worth seeing. This summer because the weather was good it was MAD PACKED. I don’t think the audio tour is necessary if you read up about it the night before in your hotel room. Its always good to read up before going places because you see a different light of the place than people going there knowing nothing beforehand. And audio tours usually make it hard to enjoy the place due the fact that your multitasking trying to listen and look. Its just not the same. The middle section is the main attraction. Oh, and don’t taste the tap water lol, bad idea.
This place is connected to the pump room next door so getting some high tea so i recommend waking up early and going to see the roman bath first so the weather is nicer and its less packed and then have afternoon tea/​lunch at the pump room after.
Overall, if your going to bath, this is the main things you will see, and its def worth it.
