Getting to Battle… was a bit of a battle… queue the groans. In fact, I wasn’t sure we were going to make it with our car troubles, but when we arrived, I was taken by the little town and how cute it is. After parking up, I kept suggesting these cute cafes and what looked like a lovely deli, but Mr. Snarky just didn’t seem to be interested in any of these. So across from the deli, I spotted the Bull Inn. We looked at the menu… standard pub grub, but I figured I could find something to eat. We went in, we were greeted and while the service was friendly, it was very slow. Extremely. Slow. At one point I was afraid that our order had not been put in. I also noticed that no one else was eating. Everyone else was just having drinks. Maybe that should have been our clue. I am not sure that we ordered anything that should’ve required waiting so long… Gammon and Eggs and Fishcakes. When we got our food, it looked good, but my fishcakes left me wishing I had ordered a burger or anything else. There were two types of fishcakes on my plate, one… had veggies of some sort in it and it was a bit on the dry side. The other… well I wasn’t sure it was actually cooked because of how runny it was. However, I didn’t get sick, so I think that’s how it was supposed to be??? And after finding a few bones, I stuck to the chips and salad. Mr. Snarky cleaned his plate… apparently the cold Gammon didn’t throw him off his game.

Well, I didn’t stay at the Inn, but I did eat lunch at the Pub! I must say from the time we walked into this pub we were welcome with smiles and hello’s. The bartender, who was also our server/waiter, was very friendly and helpful and told us to sit anywhere we liked and when we were ready to order just come up to the bar and let him know. I, of course had the fish and chips with peas. The chips were just frozen french fries fried up and not very good, but the fish was very yummy! Fresh, flaky, and not greasy at all. I was in heaven with this fish and it’s nummy yummy partner, the tartar sauce… mmmmmmmm good! What can I say about the peas except they were fresh and very good. They were peas, what can I say… One of the best parts of this pub was its atmosphere! It was a cold and very windy day the day we went in and they had a cozy fire(real wood fire) in the fireplace right by the table we were at. So cozy! And there’s something about this place that just feels good… very good energy indeed! I give this pub 2 thumbs up and will be back someday!
