Bexleyheath Station

How could I not be a fan when this station is my local one?
Despite being one of the only stations in London not to have an Underground, it’s zone 5 and has regular trains passing through it going to Dartford and beyond or Cannon Street, Victoria or Charing Cross. With a bit of patience and willingness to change, you can be in Central in half an hour and across to the other side in less than an hour.
The station itself is clean, well-​organised and has an indoor waiting room and free cash point which is handy if you’re running late and need to catch a taxi at the other end. It also has a little vendor selling newspapers, sweets, drinks, magazines, etc… the guy running it is always the same so you build up a friendship pretty quickly. He’s ace.
It has two ticket machines, one outside that takes cash and card, and one inside for card payments only. Veeery handy if there’s a queue and you’re in a rush.
The only real downside to this station is the frequency of the trains late at night. The last train leaves Charing Cross at 00:02 and so if you’re on a night out in London, you’ll be getting the night bus because your train will most certainly have gone. Bad times.

A great little local station in zone 5 that has good connections into London via Cannon Street and Victoria overground.
It has a much nicer atmosphere in the mornings as they’ve added a café car onto the London bound platform.
It’s a pretty relaxed place all-​in-​all and the barriers are often open on the Kent bound platform (if that’s your thing).
Around the station there’s a great selection of small shops including a top-​rate florist and an iPhone repair place, so if you need to apologise for being so late home (due to southeastern railways sloppy train times) you’re covered. Likewise when you throw your phone in frustration, you don’t have to go far for a repair.
All in all a good little station in a great commuter location.
