Halifax

So here’s a warning for all of you considering Halifax as your bank. They charge you £5 for a copy of your own bank statement. Yep. £5. Of my money. That I CHOOSE to put into their bank. Not anymooreeee.
As Halifax branches go, this one is alright. It’s big, they have two advice desks and four cashiers, so you’d think the queues would be nice and short. NOPE.
When we entered, the queue for advice reached the door and the cashiers had such miserable looks on their faces I wanted to turn and run.
But I stayed the course because I needed the aforementioned bank statement as proof for a mortgage application. You need a proper postal bank statement. They’d stopped mine without asking me and shifted me to online banking, which was all well and good until I realised that was clearly just so they could charge me a total of what, £60? For a year’s worth of bank statements if I needed or wanted them?
The cashier ‘as a goodwill gesture’ waived the fee. But she looked so angry that it took the goodwill bit right out of it. I’ll be sticking to online banking until I can change to one of the friendlier alternatives, that’s for sure. Yeesh.
