History

Established in 1988.

Prior to becoming a famous family attraction the BIG Sheep was known as Barton Farm, a thriving sheep farm which had been farmed by the Turner family for six generations. In 1988, farming in the West Country faced extremely challenging times and the Turner family decided to diversify and turn their farm into a farm attraction where visitors could come and experience a real farm in action and watch the sheep being milked and sample and purchase the delicious cheeses, fudge and ice cream which was served up in the their newly created Shepherd’s Restaurant.

Success came almost immediately when the family won the England for Excellence Award for the England’s Top Attraction in their first year of trading. Since then the BIG Sheep has won numerous regional and national awards, going from strength to strength with continued investment in new attractions and staff development.
