Artfull Expression

The Jewellery Quarter suffers from a surprising lack of shop fronts showcasing more interesting unique or quirky jewellery designs. There’s ample gold and diamonds, but much less of anything else.
That’s where I think Artfull wins: with loads of interesting jewellery in the window and in store, they also showcase the work of local independent designers so there’s always something interesting to browse — and alongside jewellery they stock a range of cards and gifts which should help you put together a brilliant present for a friend or family member. Definitely worth a visit when in the JQ!

I absolutely love this shop and I think it is my favourite in the Jewellery Quarter. It acts as a place to showcase and sell lots of individual jewellery makers’ work, including many local artists.
I have bought many pieces from here, normally for my girlfriends’ significant birthdays. The chap who runs the shop doesn’t rush you and is more than happy to take piece after piece after piece back to original piece (I’m an indecisive shopper) out of the cabinets. He has plenty of knowledge about the designer and takes the time to wrap everything perfectly including any relevant literature.
If you are looking for something a little bit unusual, totally unique and stunning in the jewellery stakes I’d start here.

Situated in the very lovely Jewellery Quarter, this is a real ‘gem’ of a place (pun intended) and the ideal place to pick up an unusual, hand-​crafted present or treat yourself to something nice. They have all sorts of things here — jewellery in all different sorts of styles — I particularly liked the pieces crafted using a combination of semi-​precious stones and driftwood but they also have simple, art deco pieces and more quirky items — badges in bright colours, pendants in unusual shapes as well as bigger blingier pendants. There’s also a nice selection of bronzes and some really pretty textiles and prints at the back of the store. Their selection of cards is unusual and I really, really wish I could afford the lovely, hand-​painted Bakelite phones that they stock (well-​wishers and benefactors take note). The shop itself is housed in the Merlin Centre for Contemporary Design which was established in the 80s as a place to showcase jewellery design.
