Deliveroo

Ok, so that’s pretty much it for me now with Deliveroo. They started with quite a select bunch of restaurants but have now grown so much they’re starting to sweep up some of the typically mediocre Just Eat type places. The whole idea of it, decent food and delivery, has gone backwards. I hinted at the possible problems in my previous update, but gave benefit of the doubt. I think that was a mistake now!
I do love the food hygiene ratings they feature, but what is clear from them is that they continue to allow deliveries from places with a 0 or 1 or 2 rating which basically means no systems in place for our safety and health and, for 0 and 1, probably some problem of insects, mice or worse! I used to own a food outlet and know this stuff inside out! So good luck with ordering at those places! Just not acceptable. They should cease deliveries until the ratings improve to a 4 at least!
My last order was cold, but I was so hungry I ate it. It had a very small salad and desert sent too. The order before was not that nice either given the cash thrown at it. My average spend has been around £20−23 for one, so not at the cheap end. I expect better.

I am pretty impressed with Deliveroo even given my scepticism of the idea early on. We decided we would give it a go last night instead of heading out on the town.
The amount of choice you get is fantastic, you can literally order anything you want and the app is very easy to use. The only reason I am not giving a five star review is because I think the kangaroo reference in the name and advertising refers to the amount the delivery time jumps up and down after ordering! It was never clear what time the order would arrive with it talking around 50 minutes in total.
Our delivery driver was friendly and the food was of a very high quality as we expected. This is not a cheap treat but if you want great take away food I would recommend it.

A simple idea that changes the way I think about takeaway.
Deliveroo is a service that allows restaurants to deliver takeaway for them, so instead of poor quality pizza or a curry you can get the real deal straight from proper restaurants.
We’ve ordered a good variety from plenty of places now using the clear and easy to use website, delivery has always been quick and the drivers friendly.
All in all a highly recommendable service, although it is worth thinking about what you are ordering ie crispy items just don’t travel all that well.

I’ve had a few leaflets through my door for Deliveroo, and found the concept very interesting — your favourite restaurant food, straight to your door!
We chose to order from the Viceroy Indian Restaurant in the JQ, and I really enjoyed using the ‘order ahead’ facility, something I’ve not seen before. It was great to be able to sit down and place my order as soon as I got in from work, and know that it was going to arrive at 8pm that night (how often do you forget to put your order for takeaway in until you’re starving, and then have to wait 45 mins for it to arrive?! This is such a better approach!)
The food arrived bang on time and was fresh and hot (and amazing, we’ll definitely be visiting the Viceroy in the future, one of the best curries I’ve had!)
Will definitely be using Deliveroo again, perhaps for pre-​ordering post-​pub burgers?!

They don’t deliver to certain areas in Harborne. Even though I’ve got several marketing leaflets through my door… Which is strange. I do hope they increase the areas they serve soon, as i’d like to try them out.

Sublime service from deliveroo and a revolutionary way to order takeaway. Why go for some mediocre food when you can order in from your favourite restaurants in the city?
I placed my order for delivery at 7:30, spent about 40 minutes deliberating over what to choose, paid the balance and at bank on half past seven my order arrived piping hot. Literally nothing to complain about.
It’s difficult to write about something that just works as it should. The service was seamless, the choice was excellent (what you can have delivered depends on the time you want your food and where you are), and the delivery fee is bargainous at only £2.50.
I hope to see deliveroo expand in both selection and area covered as this is a great service that I will be heartily spreading the word about.

Ok ok I have to admit that this wasn’t something that I thought I would end up being that impressed with. I had heard about Deliveroo a while ago. The idea is that restaurants can use the Deliveroo service to deliver food to households in the city, without committing to their own delivery service.
The website shows the restaurants, and their menus so it’s easy to see what it available. You can even pre-​book an order if you need to. Great, if you’re someone who likes something to look forward to at the end of a long week.
Ordering is simple except for the difficult decision of where to order from. I liked the fact that there are places which have developed some Deliveroo specials for order. This adds a little something special that you won’t find on offer at the restaurants.
We did have to give some thought to what travels well for take away. But other than that, the whole experience was great. Food arrived hot to our door (not just to the door of the apartment block), and on time.
We tested the Deliveroo service by placing three orders to three different restaurants at the same time. We found that the orders were straight forward to place, the deliveries all happened within the promised time frame, and everything arrived hot.
The £2.50 charge for the Deliveroo service is reasonable. I appreciate that unlike some take away places, the Deliveroo drivers brought the food up to our door, rather than making us go down to the street to pick up from their car.

Well, colour me impressed! I had heard about Deliveroo coming to the City in April, but not being a major takeaway person (I really like going into restaurants, rather than ordering in) I hadn’t yet had an excuse to give them a try. The Unilocal’s Big Night In gave me the perfect opportunity to see what these guys offered and give them a go.
Firstly, I really like the way you can pre-​order food for delivery. If you are sitting at home and fancy something special on a particular evening, you can pop on their website, put in your postcode and time of delivery and it will show you what’s on offer for your chosen time. The choice in the City is really great too! A lot of top rated Unilocal venues (Warehouse Café, Chung Ying Central, The Karczma and more) are already listed, so you have some really great places and cuisines to choose from.
After hearing good stuff about Dirty Cow Burger, I pre-​ordered one of their Deliveroo specials for two people on Friday lunchtime for delivery that evening. This was a deal for £19.99 (£22.49 including delivery), but entailed two burgers, two fries and two portions of chicken wings. This was scheduled for delivery at 7:30 and I received all the confirmations etc that this had gone through.
At around 7:25 on Friday, my phone rang. The Deliveroo driver had gotten a little bit confused as to how to get into my building, but after a short conversation he came to the door and we collected it. All the food was piping hot and delicious. I will write a separate review of Dirty Cow Burger, but we thought the food was really great for the price and ended up being so full we couldn’t manage breakfast the next day (not bad for £22.50).
I would definitely use this service again. It would be a nice thing to do if you had people coming around for dinner and you didn’t want to cook or even if you just wanted a lazy night in. I love the fact there is a great choice of cuisines (Polish, Indian, Vegetarian, American, Mexican right up to Ethopian, Nepalese and beyond) on offer at a range of prices. The food was the right price, the ordering process was easy and the food was delivered on time and piping hot. Winner.

Using Deliveroo was a breeze.
I ordered my food the same day for later than evening, 7.30pm, around midday on a Friday. The process was easy and all was confirmed by the restaurant shortly after I had placed my order.
I had chosen a steak with veg and sweet potato fries from Bun & Bowl in the Cube in Birmingham as I hadn’t tried the place out yet and thought this would be a god opportunity to get a taste of them, literally.
The order arrived almost bang on 7.30 via a delivery guy on a moped, ensuring the food left the restaurant and arrived to me hot, which it did!
Great service and definitely worth it if you want restaurant quality food but aren’t necessarily in the mood to go out for it.

Deliveroo was launched in Birmingham on April 1^st 2015, after being founded in London in 2013. Initially only in the city centre, but thay have expanded beyond to cover areas like Harborne, Edgbaston, Moseley and Kings Heath. Although at the moment the area covered is still fairly limited, they are still fairly new and are planning to expand further.
The way it works is, that rather than every restaurant having a fleet of delivery drivers, Deliveroo have a fleet of drivers that will visit every restaurant (that’s on their list). To distinguish themselves from sites like JustEat, Deliveroo have gone for higher end restaurants, the independent locals that we already love; ones that would normally not want to be associated with ‘takeaway food’. They only deliver within a 2 km radius of each venue, to ensure freshness of the
Food received by the customer.
I tried Deliveroo for the first time as part of Unilocal’s Big Night In event (see:

At first I looked for Deliveroo on the app store, as I presumed they would have an app. Is it strange that they don’t? Not to worry though as the website is user friendly and easy to navigate on both a handheld device and a larger screen.
As the date of the Big Night In neared, I found myself browsing the Deliveroo site at menus for the restaurants that deliver to my postcode. It’s worth noting that availability changes during the day as lunchtime venues close and evening venues open, but you can change the time on the site to check and differences.
You can order on Deliveroo one day ahead, and I had chosen which restaurant I was going to order from a day in advance. I only had three options, The Plough, Bengal Delight, and Praza by Pushkar. As I say Deliveroo is pretty new to Brum, so it should be expanding going forward.
Once logged in, the system does save ones order to complete later on. I did this with mine and after agonising whether I had made the right choices, I checked out five hours ahead of delivery — before the restaurant I ordered from had even opened that day.
Deliveroo charge £2.50 on top of the food for delivery. The big boys in the delivered food business do deliver for free, but I think that the quality of the food available through Deliveroo is head and shoulders above them .
I opted for Praza by Pushkar (
) and gave myself plenty of leeway in case I was late getting home. When I returned from work, I was starving and wished I had booked it 30mins earlier. I was greatly relieved then when my order turned up five minutes early!
My food came in a bag with gold pressed type and roped handles. The kind of bag one gets when shopping for luxury goods. I felt like I was in for a treat! Inside it was all neatly presented and the food was fab — but that’s for a different review.
From ordering to delivery efficiency I really couldn’t fault Deliveroo. The quality of the food produced by the people they have signed up is top notch. If you ever feel to lazy to cook, or it’s one of the few days a year when ALL of the shops are shut (Easter Sunday, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day), or you just feel like having a takeaway delivered because you deserve it, I cannot recommend Deliveroo’s range of quality restaurants highly enough! It is a welcome change as I had had to make do with below par, sub standard food as the only option one can have delivered to their home or workplace. Deliveroo changes all of that and makes delivered food not a disappointing convenience, but a real treat that one can look forward to.

I used their Online delivery service yesterday to order a scrumptious feast from ‘Bun & Bowl’ — & have to say the delivery and quality of food was superb.
It was a little treat for me and a friend as we had planned to go out on the night.
Deliveroo was easy to use, and a website that is quite simple to navigate. I like the variety of choice on offer, & a delivery charge of only £2.50 gets 10 out of 10 from me.
My order was on time, the food came in well packaged boxes and had no spills or mess. A great delivery service in the heart of our city. Well done chaps!
