The Hampton by Hilton made for a really pleasant stay for us. When you leave the hotel for an evening wander, you will most definitely notice that Broad Street comes alive with booming music and an electric energy. — Almost like a strip in holiday resort towns.(The club next door had a lady in teeny tiny clothes outside who was juggling FIRE!!) But do not worry because the sound doesn’t carry into the Hampton by Hilton; it’s well sound-proofed, you’ll get a good night’s sleep. Upon arriving, there was a little trouble with locating our room. We were playing as part of the Birmingham Jazz and Blues Fest who had booked the hotel for us and all visiting performing musicians. Unfortunately, they had all been saved as ‘Jazz Band.’ D’oh! Not to worry. — The lady on the desk couldn’t find a room to match us so our double-bassist got a cheeky upgrade to a double room. Lovely. Thanks, Hampton! The hotel is beautiful. We actually had our second gig of the festival in the lounge area of the hotel and it’s so cosy with couches, decadent book-filled shelves and super-cool décor. Breakfast is great; fresh and delicious. And the breakfast bar is oh-so funky and modern. I have only two complaints. The first is that we received a late-night call(past midnight) to tell us that we had, in fact, been given the wrong room but that we didn’t need to move. Perhaps it is the case that they had saw us come home late(those pesky freewheeling musicians!) and knew it wouldn’t be a problem to call but equally so, they might have been mistaken. If we had been asleep, it certainly wasn’t an urgent call. Really, we didn’t need to know as we were fine to stay in our rooms. We were actually a little puzzled as to why they called to tell us. Secondly, and a very minor problem, was that the toilet door in our room wouldn’t lock. Of course, the fact that you’re sharing a room with the only other person who’ll use it during your stay makes this pretty insignificant. But as the rest of the hotel is clean and slick, this did stand out to us. Still, our room was spacious and comfy, and we had a brilliant stay.

Good hotel. Room quite large for UK city hotel. Décor & fittings modern and bright. Full British breakfast included if you want it. Comfortable bar and breakfast room. Private parking lot. Friendly staff. I stay in Hampton Inns a lot and this one is better than most.
