Visited for the special pop events that have been happening on Saturday lunchtimes and evenings. I had not visited prior but be prepared to know that the site is very small with no seating except for the pop up events where two park benches have been set up. So it is more of a grab and dash place to enjoy your food on the go. I had a cheese toastie and banana bread pudding and both were lovely. Good value for around £8 for both.

I’ve tried Peel and Stone products many times as they are often at food markets and events round Birmingham, but today was the first time I’ve actually been in their shop! It’s situated under one of the railway arches near snowhill. It doesn’t look much from the outside, but inside it is packed with quality food stuffs! The bread, which is the main draw, is amazing! I tried their breakfast brunch today and it was delicious! They also sell pasta and various Sauces, cakes, fizzy drinks and coffee to take away-worth stopping by!

Most amazing bakery in all of Bham! My favourite place to get fresh bread, plus their cakes are delicious(especially the brownies)

Peel and stone is located in the snow hill area of central Birmingham. It’s completely independent and damn proud of it too! The store is built in one of the archways underneath snowhill bridge. It’s a fantastic location and unique in style and shape. Although it is a small store it serves both hot lunches, cakes and fresh bread. As well as this they provide local stores all over Birmingham with various products including baked goods and bread. The quality of the foods here is outstanding! Iv been to independent stores all over the world and have found very few as passionate about their work as peel and stone. If you do pop in ask them what makes their bread so special and how they make it as a example. The brownies are a particular favourite of mine. I can confidently say that these are the best brownies Iv ever had. Iv tried some of the best brownies all over Europe and many in NYC and none of them compared! They often run out of brownies quickly so if you do want to try one make sure to get there before mid day. This is true for all of their products and they shut at about 3 o clock. Peel and stone is a real gem in the Birmingham independent scene, and if you haven’t been I’d recommend it!

Brunch with a friend and for him it was one destination only — Peel and Stone over round the back of Church. About 45 mins later I rolled out thinking I could never eat again with a smug look that said ‘I’ve just had some deliciousness’. I had the meatloaf brunch with pimped out beans, eggs and toast. Every mouthful was packed full of flavor. Would have been useful to know ahead of time what meat was in the meatloaf and that the beans had pork bits in but taste-wise I wasn’t complaining.

I ve been an eager customer since Peel & Stone opened the day I moved to the JQ(they must have heard I was coming). Every morsel I ve experienced has been a carb fest fantasy! It’s my go to for fancy bread when I have a dinner party and the range of loaves jeeps growing(Hockley sour, seeded, dark & malty, city white) & all loaves can be frozen. Loaves start at £2.50& don’t last long due to their tastiness! When work allows I’ll pop in for a treat lunch of pulled pork bun, cold cut sandwich or smoked chicken & Asian slaw. Some of the ingredients are quite unusual but the friendly staff are happy to talk about the dishes to you. I’ve enjoyed a number of their doughnuts & brownies, which I usually split with friends as the portion is generous. The passion fruit doughnut was a delight, the passion fruit cream was very light. They have a brunch club every Saturday from 10 – 2. Due to the pop up style(located in a warehouse) it is effortlessly cool! There is a range of dishes on offer… slow cooked poached eggs, buttermilk chicken legs, BBQ beans, American style savoury biscuit, smoked salmon on toast… the list changes every week! Check out Twitter for the most recent menu! This franchise(which started at the Church) is continuing to grow — there is a BBQ every last Wednesday of the month(see Facebook for details&tickets) & a pizza oven that is popping up at a number of street good events across Bham! I ve tried the pizzas & they are second to none with great bases. I’m sure as the brand grows a wider selection of pizzas will be available. Finally — if you have an Independant Birmingham card, you can get 10% off when you spend £5.

I’m ashamed that it’s taken me so long to review this little gem of a bakery. In all fairness, it only popped up in the JQ this year and AFTER I had decided to make a concerted effort to cut down on my carbs. Between bad timing and a willpower fail, I finally tried some of their baked goods last week(after the launch party). I will go back to the launch party first of all… So, when I was invited by the gang to visit the new Peel and Stone Bakery — I was dead chuffed. P&S are the newest project from the fantastic Soul Food Project(now based out of the Church Inn in the JQ). On the night there were fantastic spicy dishes served with chapattis fresh from the kitchens of the Bakery. It tasted amazing and was a great introduction to this business based out of the railway arches in the Quarter. Peel and Stone normally sell a few bits and pieces in the bakery for hungry lunchers in the area. Specialising in gourmet streetfood style sandwiches, they have a «special» on offer from 11:30(which they promote through Twitter) and it normally sells out fairly quickly. To date they have had everything from salt beef to pulled pork and serve it with delicious sounding toppings and interesting combinations of ingredients. I tried their cinnamon buns and bread last week. They were trading at the 24 Carrots summer market and had an offer on buns(2 for £2). Dan G. had been hankering for a cinnamon bun for a few weeks and being on my feet for hours on end gave me a great excuse to give it a go for myself. The bun was perfect. I would not have changed one thing. Just the right amount of cinnamon, fresh and bread and presented beautifully. The bread looked like something you would be served in a fancy restaurant. It wasn’t cheap(at £3.50 a loaf), but you could smell that it had been freshly baked and my mouth started watering as soon as I laid eyes on it. I have to get myself down to their bakery to try one of their lunch specials. I urge you to give these guys a go for yourself and support one of the new faces on the foodie scene in Birmingham.

Peel and Stone is a great little independent Bakery based just under the railway bridge in the Jewellery Quarter. Don’t expect a massive selection to choose from, what they have to offer changes daily based on what orders that have had. We opted for a toast at £3.50, which is pretty standard in the JQ now. I have to say it was divine and definitely worth the money. For something a little different for lunch(make sure its early lunch) head on down and give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.
