Optical Express Intu Merry Hill

I visited Optical Express for an eye test after booking online. Be aware that the Call Centre in Glasgow will repeatedly ring you (and not leave a voicemail if you’re unavailable) until they speak to you directly to confirm the appointment. They then call a couple of days before the appointment to confirm again, which is welcome but can be irritating if you miss their calls.
On visiting the store, I was met at reception promptly and seen for an initial assessment within a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, I then had to wait 25 mins for the eye test itself. Thankfully the reception area is bright and spacious, with LCD TV’s, magazines and complimentary drinks machines.
Other than the waiting time, I can’t fault the competency of the staff, the facilities or the eye test process — but I can’t recall a single member of staff smiling or being particularly warm. It was as though they were just going through the motions. A shame — a smile goes a long way to making you feel welcome!
