We went on the Santa Special at the Avon Valley railway this year. The trains are steam trains that interested enthusiasts have restored. It was a bit like stepping back in time as we entered the station with a coal fire burning brightly in the station booking office area and a lovely Christmas tree. The train journey was around an hour long with Santa’s elves serving mince pies and biscuits to us and Father Christmas talking to all the children and giving them all a very nice present. However, it was absolutely freezing cold on the train, the windows were misted up all the time and several children were whinning and crying as their hands had turned red even with gloves on. One lady near us was trying to wrap a small child’s hands up in a hat. Our two were shivering and crying as their feet and hands hurt and there was no heat at all on the train which with the temperature in minus figures is totally unacceptable for children and older people. For this reason we would never go again. This is a lovely trip that was spoiled due to there being no heating whatsoever on the train and Avon Valley Railway needs to sort this out.
