There were so many little things wrong with that it made me question the price for the room. Cracked tiles, holes in linen, toilet paper holder falling off the wall. It didn’t surprise me when I couldn’t cool the room. Very stuffy and the air conditioner only blew hot air.
Late night room service was very poor. I attended an event and needed to eat when I got in. No hot food. Only sandwiches wIth a few crisps.
The staff were well-​mannered and pleasant. Wifi was included and there is a pool. It is close to shopping and the train station. For this I would recommend. For the price, I will try something else next time I’m in Bristol.

Initially shocked at the low quality of the room for the price. It’s also quite aged inside. It seems a little touch up was done recently, but its still noticeably out dated.
The air is slightly musky, and the floor boards creek. The future inn on the other side of Broadmead is just as basic, but more modern than this.
The staff are not very well trained. My door key wouldn’t work. The bed had a stain on it so we changed rooms. The club sandwich I ordered was cold and was lacking the fries we ordered. the guy that delivered the sandwich actually started getting tetchy with us. We phoned the guy that we placed the order with and he sent up some fries, but no apology from anyone. Even the menu has errors in it regarding serving times.
The only reason you would pay a good price for this place, is for the location. That is the only thing going for it.

Well, our shower didn’t work and there were people banging on our room door every 5 minutes till 5am… The room itself was nice, it’s just that for this pricepoint you’d expect a bit more (though in my case, it was the basics I was expecting).
I’d shop around a bit if you can, though it is close to the station if you are hopping off a train and just want a short walk to get to a hotel.

Good value for money. Great breakfast. Layout of the hotel, very confusing, the signage was too neutral against the bland corporate colouring on the walls. I will return!!!

Good value for money with a nice pool and spa. (I had a deal of 60 quid a night) Fabulous breakfast with excellent quality products and fresh local produce. The only thing I didn’t like was the layout of the hotel, very confusing and i got lost several times as the signage was unclear. But apart from that I was pretty impressed!

My second big disapoint, on my latest european tour. The Mecure Holland House Hotel Spa is billed as a hoity toity european spa/​hotel, what it really is, is a cheapo Holiday Inn, with a deap discount rack rate… the they nickle and dime you for EVERYTHING!
+ $ 12# for parking/​24 hours (so overnite is $ 24#
+ $ 9# for 24 WiFi (only one device though and I think it is dial up… one bar for most of the stay)
+ $ 15# if you want a view of the fancy pants church across the street)
+ $ 5# for room service
We booked through a last minute deally site and not knowing the «brand» we signed up, thought it was a good deal because we got it for less than ½ rack rate ($ 200#/nite!) but really it was a $ 75#/nite hotel that we paid $ 100# +++++++++++
Good news is we booked tomorrow with the same chain in Bath… :(

Well positioned within a 7-​minute walk to Bristol Temple Mead station, this hotel is a 70’s goliath exterior on Redcliffe Hill. 275 rooms are arranged in a U-​shaped building — ask for a room to the rear to avoid street noise.
I found staff to be really helpful but there were a few low points.
1) On ordering room service when the phone was answered, the lovely lass asked if she could call me back as she was in the toilet. Now, I’ve often been guilty of TMI myself, but surely this is not a phrase you want to hear from someone preparing your food?
2) The food was meant to take 30 minutes but arrived after an hour — stone cold and decidedly flaccid-​looking
3) pillows are really uncomfortable so I didn’t sleep too well.
PLUS points:
1) rooms are quiet and dark at night and the hotel has obviously been renovated fairly recently. In fact the lobby was being upgraded on my visit.
2) there was a pool and spa although I didn’t get to try it out this time.
3) All the meeting rooms are on the 5^th floor so have lovely large windows and views over the city.
4) The bar seemed to be buzzing (could have been a large conference group) although drinks prices were high.
In all, a fairly decent hotel, particularly if you get a nice cheap rate.

Would be better starred, but visit spoilt by the shambolic breakfast experience. Struggled to find a clean table. No service so no hot drinks or toast. Buffet or what was left. Walked out, so for any visit after 8.00am suggest you forget it, too.
Not enough staff or organisation and it seems a token gesture of providing food and drink. What a start to a working day!

On arrival given a large comfortable room with huge double bed.
Well-​furnished in dark hue and big shower room.
Not a panoramic view, looking into an interior court-​yard and other rooms.
It’s a former Insurance office block and no architectural delight from the exterior aspect, but interior is properly converted for purpose.
Ironing board/​iron for business trippers, etc
Some toiletries in shower, but no shampoo. Reception provided.
Good wall-​mounted TV and reception.
Room service is mainly a sandwich menu and pricey. Lots of nearby eateries and adjacent pub with food.
WiFi is NOT free despite misleading web info. Nearly £10/​$ 15 for 2 hours. Should be free now in 2010 and indicates incompetent business manager/​legal advice.
Hotel has a pool, gym, (who has the time?) and a very good restaurant, the Phoenix.
Staff are courteous and we enjoyed the room experience unlike some other mid-​range Bristol hotels.

I agree with Melanie– there is absolutely nothing outstanding about this hotel. It’s just doing the average thing and probably charging a bit too much for it. We stayed here for a friend’s hen do and it was fairly affordable but I just wasn’t that enthusiastic about any of it. The rooms were clean but without any soul, the lunch we ate on arrival was fine but wasn’t memorable. We all had spa treatments which weren’t that great to be honest and I was rather short-​changed on mine– I think I had to wait five minutes for somebody to finish and then was turfed out five minutes early from my massage. A friend arranged dinner here which again, although being just fine was nothing more than that. I think it lacks imagination and in this competitive market really needs to pull its punches more. But it’s clean, okay value and excellently located. Just don’t expect much more

Ideally located right in the centre of town this Mecure Hotel is well worth a stay if your a visitor to Bristol, it may not be the cheapest hotel in Bristol, but you know what you’re going to get.
Winner of the Bristol Hospitality Awards 2010 — Large Hotel of the Year Award, it is safe to say you will enjoy your stay here. A little characterless, well, yes, but the service, I found, is good.
You can get free bike hire which is useful. The spa is very nice, but not worth the prices, you can often find 20% off vouchers online so make sure you check before you book.
Basically, the location is great, it’s a 4* rated hotel but I would probably give it 3 and a half!

Located a stones throw from Bristol Temple Meades Train station is one of two Mercure Hotels in Bristol. I highly recommend staying here. On arrival, instead of the normal struggle with bags, forms and pens, the reception team simply hand you a key in an envelope and ask the you return the paperwork to them at your convenience. I was in the room 2 minutes after walking into the building.
The rooms in the Holland House are very comfortable. Roomy, dark wood, thick modern carpets, wifi, a flat screen TV, quiet air-​conditioning. I was impressed with how they managed to incorporate a chez lounge into a standard room. The bed was clean and comfortable.
It’s restaurant is called The Pheonix. The staff were friendly, professional and well choreographed; they clearly communicated with each other about what their guests wanted (extra bread, a break between courses etc.). Quite impressive. The environment is similar to the hotel, 90s Americana (which I like), Chihuly inspired moulded lights, and cool chill-​out music. The place was 2/​3s full (on a Monday evening in November) with a pleasant buzz.
The menu is European, fish, duck, steak, soup. Enough of a choice without going over the top. I don’t have a sweet tooth so enjoyed duck pâté and an excellent fillet steak.

Average service, average beds, average service, average prices. Just what I’d expect from one of the UK’s (the World’s?) most average hotel chains. They do pass themselves off as a ‘Posh’ hotel, but if you stay in one for more than 5 minutes, particularly the Bristol branch, you’ll soon see it is far from it.
I’m not saying the Mercure is Fawlty Towers or anything. My folks stayed here on a trip down to Brizzle and they were underwhelmed. The food in the restaurant is Wetherspoons quality and yet they charge A La Carte prices for it. The room they booked into a) hadn’t been cleaned very thoroughly and b) smelt strongly of sewerage (nice!). After complaining, they were immediately upgraded and the plumbing problem was apparently investigated, but still, not what you want to be faced with after a long journey.
All in all not a blissful night’s stay, and to top it all they were charged a tenner for the car parking!
