The Bristolian

Thank you for running such a perfect business, my dear Bristolian. I had a spicy take on an English breakfast, and it was sublime: 2 eggs, herb fried potatoes, spinach with sundried tomatoes, 2 chorizo sausages, mushrooms, and 2 side dishes of greek yogurt sauce and homemade salsa. Coffee is also on point, and there are two (free) infused waters — they had mint, lemon and celery when I visited.
Coupled with the eclectic and inviting interior — not to mention the cheerful staff — what’s not to like?

Really great place to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Didn’t know they did dinner before, luckily stumbled across it, having a delicious bean casserole. Interior is great, just the perfect level of casual.

Nice little place. We had a full English breakfast and tea which went down very well. Very friendly bohemian type of joint which was very relaxed and welcoming. A nice variety of ffods and drinks and I will be back.

Really good food, went here with a friend on a Saturday night and got the last table! Food was took a bit of time to arrive but the atmosphere was really friendly so it did not really matter. As a vegetarian there was a good choice, cocktails were great too. Would defiantly go again.

I lived opposite the Bristolian for over a year and only went in there once — what a plonker! It’s so good!
Tucked just out of view from the busy Cheltenham Road, The Bristolian is the first thing you get to on Picton Street, and it sets the tone perfectly.
I was in the area this afternoon and was in need of a fruity tea and a sweet, spongy treat. So I locked my bike up outside and eagerly headed in. Even at 3pm they were busy inside and outside, which is always very encouraging.
I’ll take the opportunity now to mention how different the clientele were. There was a real mix of baggy tie-​die trousers and dread locks to a group of grey haired ladies having a good natter. As well as myself, there was another guy and girl with their laptops and another mixed group just having a coffee. It was great! I love going to places that attracts such different types of people but in a effortless way. It just works here!
I asked the girl behind the counter for her tea recommendations and opted for the blackcurrant (and something) tea. It was really tasty, but a little sharp for my liking. I also had the lemon drizzle cake that was SO good. It was really dense but without being too heavy.
I had to take Skype call so logged on and started chatting. One of the waitresses noticed I was struggling to hear with the music on and turned it down for me — without having to ask. It was really nice of her because I probably wouldn’t have asked.
I’ve not eaten here for well over a year so I’ll update my review when I do. It wont be long because I’ve fallen back in love with The Bristolian.

One word. Fantastic. I loved this place. My wife and I were visiting Bristol over the weekend and stumbled across this place.
Its brilliantly tucked away in a really bohemian/​student/​arty area of Bristol which in itself is lovely.
The menu is excellent with plenty of choice for vegetarians and us carnivores alike. I was hugely impressed by the fact that all their meat is free range and/​or organic.
We both had 2 flat whites which were exceptional and the full English which was easily one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a café for a very long time. The staff were friendly and the whole place just had a really pleasant and relaxed vibe.
I’ll go back here on my next visit. Its almost enough reason to up sticks from London and move there!

Good english breakfasts and bohemian crowd makes this tucked away café worth a visit

The Bristolian is pretty much a greasy spoon on acid. One of the two female owners has a penchant for mosaic, and consequently The Bristolian looks like it’s suffered a Gaudi attack. This coupled with the original artwork on the walls and the ultra-​colourful Mexican oil cloth table cloths, it makes for a sensorial tsunami, especially if you go there searching for the fabled full English breakfast hang-​over cure. Love it!
Their outside tables are on a properly designated area of terrace, rather than clustered on a slender strip of pavement. It also happens to enjoy a particularly favoured aspect. It’s one of the few outdoor eating areas that also happens to be a great little sun-​trap in this area.
They serve great food with a whole lot of attitude, and what they don’t know about what’s going on in the area isn’t worth knowing about.

In my opinion the best fry-​up in Bristol, and believe me I’ve tried a few. The Bristolian is a green-​painted enclave of greasy goodness down Montpelier way, decorated inside with chintzy tablecloths and with wide benches outside.
It’s the perfect place to while away a hungover afternoon in a tranquil side street. There are several all day breakfasts and while smoked salmon and scrambled eggs is good, it’s all about the fried breakfast. Delicious (although probably not very nutritious) and with just about the right amount of grease, it comes in an enormous portion for a very respectable price.
There’s invariably a good selection of newspapers lying around and both staff and clientele have always struck me as friendly. My one criticism is that for a café, the coffee isn’t actually that good. However, leave that aside and The Bristolian is just how cafes should be — unpretentious, with original thought to the decoration and great food.

Standing proudly with its jubilant green décor at the end of Picton Street, The Bristolian is a charming little café which, if buildings can have personalities, seems to have a sense of humour about itself. Inside it serves up big, classic all-​day breakfasts in all manner of combinations, but outside it looks like a gorgeous European coffee shop, with flirty plants and small tables.
It’s always full to the brim with people, mainly arty Stokes Croft types who like to have a good natter while they wait for their orders, and the traffic in and out is enough of an enticement to go in and see what all the fuss is about. With its friendly, attentive service and a fun, easy-​going atmosphere, this is a café to which you should definitely make a dedicated journey from any corner of Bristol.

Its hard to miss this bright green café on the corner of Picton Street, best frequented when you’re in search of a huge yet reasonably priced fry-​up.
Living only a few streets away this place was perfect for Friday and Saturday night induced hangovers in my student days and the wide range of different breakfasts available (with plenty of veggie options too) are enough to satisfy the largest appetite.
The Bristolian can get quite busy in the late morning but there is indoor and outdoor seating and the patrons are normally friendly and willing to share a tables. The quirks of this café include mirror mosaics, old toys and children’s books and a delightful miss-​match of crockery — think chintz floral jugs sat on graphic 80s print saucers.
The only downside to this place is the pace of service, in my previous experiences, is a little on the slow side. A cooked breakfast often takes at least half an hour depending on how busy the joint is and once I was waiting for nearly forty minutes. Breakfast was worth the wait but if you’re impatient when it comes to eating you might want to get a drink and a snack while you wait!

The Bristolian is fairly representative of the pace of life in Montpelier and acts as a beacon for trendy mums, arty types and those like me, who are whiling away a morning.
It is wonderfully haphazard inside with all kinds of adornments like mosaic mirrors, incredibly painted toilets and lava lamps in a homely setting. The menu is great and it is always worth checking what the specials are. They also do huge breakfasts, with a vegetarian and a vegan option and a great selection of drinks.

The Bristolian on Picton Street is a wonderful little slice of Bristol life. I used to drive here from miles away when I first moved to the area and now (thank god!) I live just round the corner.
It’s your standard café but with many nice features. The tables are always covered in the daily newspapers (local rag on top!), for example, and the local radio’s always on. In the summer time there’s a squeeze to fill the outside tables and it’s the exact opposite in the winter! A children’s corner full of colourful toys and noises distracts the little nippers long enough for the mums and dads to get some fresh tea and coffee down their necks. It’s a nice place to shoot the breeze.
On the flip side don’t have anything much planned for after as the service tends to slow down a little, and I wouldn’t dare sit around too long after you’ve finished!
All in all however, a very pleasant café.

This is a great little café, situated just around the corner from Stokes Croft, on Picton Street. It’s a fantastic place to go for all-​day breakfasts — there are meat, veggie and vegan options to keep everyone satisfied — and they also serve a range of sandwiches, coffee and tea. The décor as a really homely feel to it, with checkered tablecloths, houseplants by the windows and old street signs adorning the walls. There’s a corner full of toys and books to keep the kids occupied, and an outdoor area at the front, which is great in the summer. All the prices are very reasonable; a cup of tea or a glass of juice will only set you back a quid. Excellent.

The Bristolian has a warm and friendly atmosphere and this is reflected in the staff and their approach to not just the customer, but their cooking as well. With a wide range of dishes available they cater for everyone and being greeted and served with a smile makes the whole dining experience just that little bit more enjoyable. All in all a very worthwhile place to check out!

Perched on the corner of Ashley Road and the thriving, bohemian Picton Street, the Bristolian café is the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. Outside tables for sunnier days or comfy sofas inside provide a great place to meet and greet friends and bump into old acquaintances. There’s a good selection of all day breakfast’s including salmon and scrambled egg. Veggies are catered for as well or soups, sandwiches, salads and snacks more for the lunchtime palate.
